View Full Version : Do you have a pet?

I have a dog that I love soooo much! Well, I have two dogs that I love but one that I adore. Dora Mae is a red, dappled dachshund with blue eyes. She loves me as much as I love her.
She loves squeaky toys and if we aren't paying attention to her, she will go to her toy box, get a squeaky toy and make noise, squeaking and squawking.....
Her job, in our household, is Homeland Security. She patrols the yard several times a day to check for any intruders and has been known to kill her share of snakes, mice and chases off the moles.
I had no idea I would love a pet soooo much!

We have 3 cats, each with their own personality. ;) As I'm sitting here typing this, two of them are laying on my desk, and one keeps prancing in front of my hands as I try to type.
I do not have my own pet at this time. But I adopt one from my mom from time to time. She seems to be quite famous though. Here she is...

Awwwwww, she's a sweetie, no doubt about it!
I have two pets. Actually they belong to one of my daughters (Kelsey) but I love them, too, and help care for them.
They are twin chinchilla brothers and they are furry and funny. From time to time we throw all caution to the wind and allow them out of their cage to frolic. They run, hide, jump and leap around, causing all sorts of commotion. Finally we catch them and return them to their cage where they pout, but not for long. They love raisins for treats as well as timothy hay.
For Christmas Kelsey and I bought some lumber and wood screws and using my power tools (yes, they are MY tools!) we built them a new hut to hide in within their cage. It turned out so well that my son and I made another which stacks on top of the first.
The original wood house I made for them had been chewed so much that the edges were beveled and looked more like quarteround trim than the 90 degree joints they started out being. So, while I took great pains to make the houses just right, they don't care and add their own special touches with their gnawing.
Chinchillas are nocturnal but their nighttime antics don't bother Kelsey. They share a room with her (caged--them not her!) and have been known to drag items of hers into their cage to chew--something that doesn't sit well with her but does help to remind her that she needs to keep a neater room. ;)
I could go on and on, but I have another site I need to get back to or else.....well, I have no idea what might happen! lol

We have always had at least one dog. Our beloved Lhasa Apso died in Nov 2004 leaving us terribly heartbroken and empty feeling. We have been thinking about getting another puppy or two for the past few months and finally felt the time was right.
We got a precious new puppy tonight. He is all of 6 weeks old and as tiny as he can be! He is a Maltipoo - part Maltese and part Poodle. We've never had one but he is such a loving and sweet little guy! Our hearts just had to bring him home!
I look forward to playing with him and watching him grow! I still miss my faithful friend very much but I know he would love this little guy!
Deb, I know how you feel when you lose a dog you love. I had my childhood dog for 12 years. She died 4 years ago, and it still hurts. You'll have to post a photo of your new puppy. What is his name?

We have 3 dogs and 1 cat, 2 of the dogs are Shih Tzu's, they are mother and daughter. The mother's name is Patches and the daughter is Sophie, she is my baby and she follows me everywhere when I am home. The other dog is a male Schaunzer(sp) and his name is Carson, he is dh's. Our cat's name is Lily, and she just comes and goes as she pleases. Life would be boring without our pets, they are so entertaining and easy to love.Carol

I LOVE that name! I've always wanted to get a hound dog and name her Scout. What a great name!

We have 2 cats, momma and son. Got the momma cat from a shelter only to discover a few days later that she was pregnant. We kept one of the kittens and found homes for the other 3. The momma cat is Shasta and is a major lap cat. The son cat is Merlin, and he thinks he's a dog----he follows the kids around everywhere and plays fetch.

I have two resuce dogs that have become my fur children. Oh, they are spoiled rotten. They are always on the furniture and love to snuggle up for movies and popcorn. I hate to admit how goofy I am about my two girls. :)

This is such fun, reading about everyone's pets :)
I have two pets:
We've had Ephrem, our white cat, since before our youngest was born. Even though he's a "grand-pappy" of almost 13 yo, he's still such a kitty in so many ways: extremely playful and always in the best place of the house. Right now, he's sleeping beside me, on a footstool. Guess it beats having him prance over the keyboard, LOL.
We also have a Golden Retriever puppy. Yes, he's still a puppy, even though he's almost 8 months old: they take 2 years to reach maturity. We can't wait, LOL!!! Hercules is a blond golden and he's sooooo rambuctious!!! He loves us to pieces and very, very close to DD, who'd been wanting a dog for as long as I can remember!!! Hercules is unusual as far as Goldens go: he's a guardian. I figure that it's because he's such a scarety cat, that he's trying to scare people and things away LOL.
We know who's the boss in our household: the dog waits while the cat drinks his water LOL.

That's hilarious! It's funny when the cat rules the dog.

Howdy y'all! This is my first post on GGG. Thanks for creating this website y'all! We currently have two goldens... or I should say two golden retrievers have us. We have been loved by eight goldens over the last 20 years... Our house is decorated in colors that camoflague dog hair... I even took some to Target when I went to get curtains so I could get them to match. We have hard wood floors and stained concrete floors to make all of our lives easier.
All of our dogs are named golf names. Now we have Augusta and Mulligan and they are 10. Mulligan likes to make sure that the world is safe from his spot in the sun on the back porch. He performs his task the best if he has some stuffed animals and tennis balls by his side. He can PROUDLY get four tennis balls in his mouth at one time! Yes... I AM a proud Mom! His sister Augusta is the family sneak. She likes to take things off the counter tops and bring them to us. She also brings stuff upstairs to us every night... it is always her choice. She has even brought her dog food bowl before when she wanted us to feed her. She didn't spill anything along the way!
Soon we will be adding two new puppies (that we have not met yet but already named Divot and Bunker) to the mix because the house is too quiet with just two golden babies. I am looking forward to these additions to our family!

Aww, your stories make me miss having a dog.
We had a beautiful Australian Shepherd named Lacey.
Lacey lived with the retired couple at the end of the street. Lacey would never stay home, and often showed up at our home in the early morning hours with a gift, somewhere along the lines of a dead lizard or a piece of charcoal. Well, one day her owner knocked on our door with Lacey, a leash and a bag of dog food. He said he was going on vacation and we could have the dog. He said that he didn't want a dog that wouldn't stay home.:stomp:
Of course we already loved her. So we took her in.
She was very smart, but she had a couple bad habits, like chewing the boards off of our backyard fence, and she liked to roll in the cow pasture, if you know what I mean!
She was a part of our family until one day when she disappeared. We never found her.
I didn't want another pet, but now....maybe.

My children are the proud owners of 2 cats and a dog but now that they've left home I guess hubby and I own them. Our dog sounds very much like Kathy's with the squeaky toys, killing of mice, rabbits and snakes. He also patrols the yard and gets very cross when the sheep or cattle dare to come close to the house fence. Very territorial!

We're also owned by 6 cats. 2 girls, Lucky Baby and Spice. 4 boys, Shadow, Stinker, Midnight and Wobbles. The 2 girls live inside, the rest are outside cats.
They own Ali too, one checks out the dog food and Ali will wait to eat until he's through :D

We have 11 fancy-rats. 6 girlies and 5 boys.
They are sweet, gentle, affectionate and very intelligent, a bit like dogs, but don't need long walks in the rain!
All but two of them are from rescue shelters. My kids and all their friends love them.
I don't know if people in the U.S. keep domesticated rats as pets, but if you'd like intelligent pets but don't have space for a dog, I'd recommend ratties :D

Hi Annie-
I have seen on a tv show here in the US about people that keep rats as pets..
They say they are great and not too much to fuss with...
I think that its great that you have rescued your ratties...

At the moment I have 4 cats. Two I adopted last August from the local animal shelter - Pisces is an 11 year old calico; Maizie is a 4 year old flame point Siamese mix. BB is about 7 years old, gray and white. He isn't really mine, he lives here in the winter while his parents are at their second home in Florida. And yesterday we adopted a new little guy - Josh, who is 6 months old, black mid length hair, a total cuddle bug. He also came from the animal shelter.
Almost forgot, I also have a parakeet named Dusty. We've had him for 12 years - isn't that a long time for a parakeet?

We have three cats... Snus is the king of the house... My DD named him after a trip to Sweden. Someone she knew there had a cat Snus. Then we have Patch that my DD beggggged for.... and finally I said ok. Well Patch had kittens and we kept a cute little boy named Lamont... I call him Lamont Roy! We also have a lazy Siberian Husky named Lady who doesn't believe she is a dog. She is only lazy until you drag out her leash and then she bounces!! I told my DH that I wanted an Alpaca but he just rolled his eyes and walked away. They are cute but he is probably right.

Hi,
I have 5 cats and one dog thats 14! One of the cats I adopted from my neighborhood because they didn't want him. He is disabled because cannot control his bodily functions due to his lack of development in his hind end. I put a diaper on him when he comes in the house. I love my old dog, but my cats are my loves.:)

I have a beautiful 3 yr old Maltese named Romeo. He has a full coat and is totally spoiled rotten. We are going to Miami for spring break and of course my baby climbs in his purse when he sees my suitcase, so in a few weeks, he will be packed up and ready to go.
He is all of 5 pounds, and thinks he is a giant. If anyone comes near my shoes you would think he was Cujo. But this morning he found a little paper package of pepper, like you get when you eat at a fast food resturant, and kept sneaking up on it. When he sneezed he would back off, then sneak up on it again.
And yes Jane... Maltese are fabulous babies! Life would not be the same without my baby! And does your dog take half the bed? Have yet to figure that one out.

I have 3 indoor kitties, Babycakes is 18, Rusty and Tigger are 8. I'd love to have a dog too, but living in SoCal, we have no, I mean NO yard, and our homeowners will allow us to have only 2 animals. Okay we're already over by 1, but adding another one would probably be too much. Especially since my husband and I want a large dog - him a Mastiff, me - a Doberman, Rottweiler, or a Chihuahua (my husband is definitely not to hot on the little one)
Someday, when we have a yard, well have a whole menagerie

Also one Lovebird...Kiwi

Also one fish tank with large Angel and two big Silver Dollars and a catfish.

I have a Corgi named Tucker,he's spoiled rotten and dislikes my husband simply because he lives in the house with us!! Tucker thinks that no one else should love me if hes there. While it can be annoying, you can't imagine the feeling of having 1 little dog could adore you so much and probably do anthing he could for you.

Up until recently we had 2 dogs. Our beloved Joshua (16 year old Beagle/Bassett) died of Cancer on Jan29th of this year. Worst day of our lives, and our home is just not the same. Our other dog is Charlie, a 7 year old Bassett/Spaniel.
We also have fish, fish and more fish.
My daughter desparately wants a cat, but I'm not into the litter box thing. (Cuz you KNOW who'd be taking care of it!)

We have a calico cat -- Cali -- (so original, I know) who adopted us when she was just a tiny stray kitten the day we moved into our home 14 years ago. She rules the roost and has outlasted several canines with definite feline aplomb. She barely tolerates any other four-legged creature in our home and has been known to give me very dirty looks when one comes to visit. I have a photo of her in my blog, along with one of the wicked visitors she so disdainedly ignored.

I have a black lab dog, Lucy, and a very fat cat, Leo. My other dog, Macy, named after my favorite shopping place, died after we had her 12 years. She died on January 30th, and we are still sad.
We have one 11 year old American Eskimo who is beautiful, and one three year old toy pek-a-poo. They are the biggest and the smallest dogs we have ever owned. The 8 pound pek-a-poo thinks she is a big dog and is not intimidated by any dog regardless of size. She was chasing my son's 55 pound german shepherd mix at Christmastime. It was hysterical!!!!

I have a big, black Lab Retever, called Keno.
Keno was my son's, dog, and he has been here with my other son and I for 9 years.
My son always teases with, 'Keno if you poopie in Rita's garden, I'll give you a whole bag of cookies', [dog biscuits]...Keno knows better!!
Keno had to have his one toenail off last fall. Lucky for me, I was home with him for 4 nites, when I had to go back to work, Sunday nite, I said, 'Mommie's got to go to ---------[where I work] Daddy , my son, will take care of you' Keno just hug his head and looked sad, I felt real bad.
Keno can 'hear count' Like it's 5, 4, 3,2, 1, more nite till Mommy's home with you for two nites.'
I have a cat named Franklin. He was a stray some friends found and intended to keep, however he wouldn't let their cats down the stairs to the food and litterboxes, so he had to go. I was the only one who didn't already have a pet and lived somewhere where they were allowed so I took him in. He was never a really active cat or very affectionate...but he always be in whatever room I was in.
I temporaily moved in with a friend with two cats and wasn't sure what would happen but they got along fine. It was like he knew it was temporary.
Now, at 19 years, he is a total slug and stays on the bed, only to get off when he needs to use the litterbox or wants to eat. He has gotten much more affectionate over the years too. As soon as I get in bed he comes up from the bottom to lay right next to me to get some attention.

Hey RainvowVader. Have you looked into Poodles? A lot of people with allergies are not allergic poodles. And they are incredibly smart and oh so pretty! You guessed it...I have a poodle! His name is Cody and he is now 13 years old and just recently became deaf. It doesnt seem to bother him at all. I tell my girls that he is number one because he was with Mommy before they come along. (just kidding! but he is very special to me!) I bought him from my Aunt and Uncle when he was 9 months old. We had gone to visit for the weekend and I met Cody. They are cat lovers and had no patience for this sweet little puppy. I talked them into letting me buy Cody from them with monthly payments. At the time, my husband and I were newlyweds and had absolutely no extra money...McDonalds was a luxury for us at the time...but, somehow, we found the money and Cody became a part of our family. We also have a Chihuhu named Honey that we adopted from some people who were moving and didnt want her anymore. :( Before we could get her to the vets....boom, she and Cody were parents! We kept one of the puppies, so we now have 3 very small 'ankle biters' running around the house. And we love every minute of it!

We have 2 pot-bellied pigs Mercedes is 14 years old and Harley is 13. They live in our garage in their own special room called the pig palace. Katey a snow lab, Begherra a black long hair male cat, Sweet Pea and short hair white female and Nermal a gray long hair female.
Nermal is named after Garfield's nemesis and she really does think she's the world's cutest kitten and the world revolves around her. When we first got her, she didn't realize that the other two cats were growling at her. She was looking around to see who they were upset with.
None of pets think they are pets. Katey won't fetch, she looks at me like I'm nuts if I even try to get her to bring something to me. Yet I know she knows what I'm talking about. Oh, and don't even think about asking her to shut the door. Our bedroom door isn't latched so she can open it, but she won't close it! I think she was born in a barn!!!

Hi, we have got 2 dogs. Toby is a terrier crossbreed and is 5 years old and he is my 16 year old sons best friend. Teddy bear is a 8 month old labradoodle and the bain of my life at the moment, he gets the clothes down of the washing line for me (never mind that there not dry and that he puts holes in them)he loves to jump up on people and when hes inside the house he LOVES to try to sit on my lap. But he is so cute I wouldn't be without him.
We also have 4 cats, Misty is 4 years old a mixed breed cat, Smokey is 2 a mixed breed cat also and we got him from the RSPCA, Sweetie is a 3 year old ragdoll and Sacha is a 5 year old ragdoll. All the cats are indoors only and all have very loving personalities. I have always had cats and dogs and just could not be without them.
Woops, sorry this is so long.

We have 4 cats. PITA (pain in the a**, which she was when she was a kitten) is a beautiful long haired mostly white with brown/grey markings, and the most beautiful green eyes.. she's indoor only. Then there are the 3 that my dh adopted off our front porch (strays), Kit, Boodles, and Snowflake. Kit showed up on our porch one day with 2 little kittens and my dh started feeding them. Then Snowflake, who was a kitten herself, but a little older showed up wanting to get in on the feedings. Kit would have nothing of that at first but Snowflake persisted. It took her a couple of weeks, but Kit finally accepted her. It was just a couple of days after that when the little black kitten dissapeared. Once we (and they) decided they were now a part of our family, we took them down and had them all fixed. Snowflake is a mostly indoor cat, Boodles is in/out, and Kit is mostly out, all by their own choices. Have you picked up on the naming theme for mama and kitten yet? -- Kit and Kaboodle (Boodles for short).
Our beloved Rottie passed away from bone cancer last summer. She was 120 lbs. with no fat on her. Bigger than the average Rottie and just as sweet as could be. She is so very much missed. In November, we adopted a little Pappillon, all of 5 lbs., from a rescue organization. The little guy has been through so much and although he stays at my feet at all times that I'm home, he still does not voluntarily let up pick him up or pet him. He has come a long way though. He will run around my feet and "dance" for me. You can't help but to laugh at him. The cats are bigger than he is, and a couple of them will chase him if we don't keep an eye out for it. But he doesn't bother them, and he has his own room for refuge, when he feels the need.
This is very much a house full of furbabies...

In my family we have 2 dogs. Allison, AKA Alli (or ally cat as the neighbor calls her) is almost 7 yrs old. She is a chow, retriever mix, and is just beautiful. She is VERY protective of her family and home. She doesn't let other animals into the yard, and usually trys to chase strange cars away. We got her from my sister when she was just 6 weeks old.
Sunny is our new addition to the family. He is one of the most poiled rotten dogs you will ever meet. He actually has his own barbie. He loves to play with the kids, and w/ Alli. He is actually the grandson to Alli. When Alli was about 15 months old she had her only litter of pups. MY MIL took 2 and one of them is the dad of Sunny. We call them Grumpy gramma, and sunster most of the time. Sunny looks like a full blood blonde lab, but is actually a mix of alot of things. It's almost time to get him snipped, but I havent done it yet. He is 6 months old and already weighs approximately 60 lbs. The vet said that he is going to be over 100 lbs. I can hardly wait to see how big he actually does get.

We have five pets, 3 labrador retrievers, Angel is our 11/2 year old yellow, we also have Maggie & Kelsie who are sisters, almost 4 months old , maggie is black and Kelsie is chocolate - they are a handful but spoliled rotten. We also have two cats - Holly is a 4 year old dilute tortiseshell and Buddy is a 3 year old black siamese mix.
I love them all very much.

We have a large assortment of pets here. 2 horses, 2 ponies, 1 cow, 5 goats (4 of whom are pregnant), 1 dog, 1 rabbit, 6 cats. I enjoy the horses the most and the goats are the most work. The children are extremely fond of the cats and rabbit.

I would like to say that we have 2 dogs, but in all reality 2 dogs have us! :D We consider them our children, not pets...LOL!
Fischer is a Jack Russell Terrier and Hallie is a black lab/golden retriever mix. I got Hallie for free out of the newspaper and ended up saving her from going to the shelter. My DH got Fischer for me for Christmas 2 years ago. Fischer was born on our wedding day, so we think it's meant to be!

I have three cats in the house: Lainey, Mortie, and Bear, all rescued from our barn where another 10 or so live. My cats all take turns loving me each night. My lap is never empty.

I have 2 tabby cats named Bitty and Smokey. They are spoiled to the core just like the kiddos. I love to watch my long haired black tabby do her nightly ripping and running around like a deranged animal. Bitty is so funny to watch as she pounces at shadows and lent on the carpet. Smokey is more of a Garfield cat. She just eats, sleeps and lounges around for the most part. They are just part of our family.
