I'm in central Ohio, land of Honda. :) Need I say more?

Okay, I will.

I was born in Illinois, moved to Michigan as an infant, lived there until I was in junior high, then moved to Ohio and have been here since, but not in the same city.

I love my city but would like some better weather. :)

I've lived in east central Minnesota my whole life. I grew up in a small town, attended college in a big city, spent my 20's-40's in the state's largest city, Minneapolis, and now I live in a community of 20,000. I love the dramatic change of seasons in this part of the country. My favorite months are the summer ones, but I manage to find enjoyment in certain aspects of my environment nearly all times of the year.

I about 40 minutes northwest of Nashville, TN. I was born and raised in Alabama. Marrying a career Army officer, we lived in Georgia, Germany, Virginia, Kentucky, Kansas, Alabama, Korea, and Tennessee.

It's nice to settle down and put down some roots, but I wish it was closer to the beach! :)

I'm in Michigan. If you look at your right palm...making your hand look like a mitten....I live at the cross-hairs from your index finger (going down) and bottom of your thumb (going left). This is referred to as the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. If you travel north, over the Mackinaw Bridge, you cross into the Upper Peninsula or UP as it's referred to here. Which makes you a Yooper. Since we live below the bridge, we're referred to as trolls. Such as life and lore in the state of Michigan.
I was born in Ohio...lived 18 years of my Adult life in Indiana.

I live in Canada, in "La Belle Province" of Quebec. However, I'm at the extreme South-West of the province, right on the Ontario border. I was born and raised on the Ontario side, in a small town, 30 miles from Ottawa, Canada's capital city. While Ontario is mostly english, our town and surrounding towns are all french.

I love my area for several reasons. For one thing, I don't know of any other place where you can walk from one city/one province to another within 15 walks: it's just a matter of crossing one of the bridges. I live in one province and work in the other... and so does my husband.

I also love the scenery: we have a beautiful river, a whole greenbelt of trees, mountains that are just a few minutes from our place. And the fauna to match the flora.

We also have the longest natural skating rink in the world: the Rideau Canal Skateway!!! Unfortunately, this winter has been so mild that it's not much of a skating rink right now :(

Did I say I love my little neck of the world? :D

Born and raised in Rhode Island. We have the beautiful Atlantic Ocean, which is probably a 20-25 minute drive from here. Since I'm pretty much in the middle of the state, I can get to any point within a half hour. We are below, as well as to the west of Massachusetts, and to the east of Connecticut. :) I currently live in Las Vegas, NV, some people think it's really great to live here but it's getting so crowded, everyone is moving here. We hope to be able to move to OR in about 10 yrs or sooner. My husband is orginally from MI, we met when I was living in San Diego, where I was born and raised. We moved to MI for about 8 yrs, we lived in the southwest corner of MI, near Indiana, where a lot of my relatives live. I just loved it there, but he was tired of the snow, having lived there his entire life. We ended up back this way to take care of my elderly parents, they are both gone now I just lost my Dad in August and my Mom passed away about 10 yrs ago. Our kids are grown, I had them when I was very young, which I am really happy I did because we are young grand parents, and having fun with the grands. When we can-- my husband is an RN and works for the State of NV I'm also a nurse but hurt my back lifting a patient years ago so I'm not working right now, but hope to find something I can do soon.
That's about it just living day to day and tonight is our Friday, I'm so happy about that, he is off Tues and Weds, and he works the night shift so I'm alone all night and just do things on the computer until I can't sit in the chair anymore. Play online games and belong to a forum for making psp's for my blog, although i haven't learned any yet, but have a lot of friends over in the UK, it's really fun doing a blog every night and I also play texas hold em online trying to win is always a challenge, but I come in second and first sometimes which is when you win money for that.

Well better get moving just wantd to say "HI".. ~M~ :)

I'm in Chula Vista. CA, about 5 miles south of San Diego. I grew up here and have always been here except for a 5 year stay in Washington when Price Club and Costco merged and I was working down here for Price Club. We decided it would be an adventure so we moved to Issaquah where the Costco home office is. I loved it there, so many beautiful trees and a little bit of snow. My DH works outside and he got awfully tired of the rain so he got his old job back in Chula Vista in 1999 and we returned. I still miss my friends in WA but almost all of both our families live here so I'm glad to be back.

Debbie[COLOR=Teal]

buttercup

Debbie - I couldn't afford to buy the house I live in now. When we moved back here from Washington (2000) we had made money on the house we sold there as their prices were rising. The prices were just starting to go up some here so we were able to buy a nice older (1978) two-story house in a good neighborhood. We put down all the profit from the WA house so our payment wasn't too bad.
I don't understand how people are making their huge payments on all the new housing that has gone up in this area. I think a lot of them are defaulting. We were both working with good paying jobs and not a huge amount of debt and we still had to watch the budget. I don't know where all these people are working to be able to afford the house, the SUV, the motorhome, the motorcycles, the boat. It is unbelievable how many toys people have around here.
But then we put money into retirement and maybe they have no savings. I don't know but we are happy where we are.

02-13-2006, 09:21 PM
Buttercup, my guess after thinking about it is perhaps they believe they will make enough on their home when they have to sell to pay up there will be enough left over to start again somewhere else! It would scare me to have so much hanging over my head all the time! Guess that is why many are leavig the Calif area and going to other places such as Vegas and AZ. Just my guess. My friend down the street told me tonight her parents are selling their home out there and moving here to TX.

I was born and reared in Ohio. Then, I got married and have lived in Illinois, Michigan, south Jersey, North Carolina, and two different regions of Florida. I love Florida even though we are having a cold snap today. What I don't love are the hurricanes.
If they continue, I might be willing to leave my beloved Florida.
I have lived through Andrew, and then three other hurricanes during a six week period. Enough is enough. When there is no hurricane and the sun is shining by the gorgeous white sand beaches, I fall in love with Florida all over again.

Dreamchaser, It is hardest on the younger people trying to buy their first home. I have 4 kids in their twenties and though none are married I don't see how they could ever buy a home around here even if they were, It definitely takes a double income. Then the finance companies and banks of course wanting to make loans, are coming up with creative (I say criminal) financing where you can get an interest only loan for a few years, or even borrow more than the value of your house, and other schemes. This is so dangerous and a lot of people do it I guess. The thing about the interest only loans is that I guess they don't realize that for a lot of years the interest is almost all the payment anyway so they're really not saving much.
My husband's nephew and his wife are moving to Austin soon because they bought a condo and they can't afford the payment. Hopefully they can get some profit from selling it but it's been on the market about a month and so far no luck. The market is slowing down here. You see For Sale signs around for much longer than a year ago when there were bidding wars on houses for sale that often went higher than the price you originally asked for. Houses were on the market one or two days. I think we are going to see some bad things in the economy pretty soon here. I'm staying put.

I live in Canberra, the capital city of Australia. My father is a Norwegian who came to Australia in 1951. In 1955 he met my mother and married her. He took her back to Norway for a couple of years and I was born there, about 60kms south of the Arctic Circle. My father is the youngest of ten children so I one remaining uncle and dozens of cousins in Norway, over 100. I keep in touch with most of them by email these days and was last over there in September 2005.

My daughters came to the USA last summer to work in summer camp at Camp Towanda, in the Pocono mountains of NE Pennsylvania. They visited New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Nashville, and Orlando. I spent a week with friends in Nashville when I went over to meet my daughters. We attended the Australian Music Festival which is an annual event in Nashville. Hi Emily, both my big girls went to Camp Towanda for eight weeks altogether. It was a 90% Jewish Camp and was certainly a unique experience in many ways. My daughters are 22 and 20 (we are not Jewish by the way) and they were each in a cabin with 10 nine year old girls. They loved the girls! They have an 11 year old sister, so they've had plenty of practice, just not with 10 at a time!

The camp itself was in a beautiful area, had it's own lake and lots of sports facilities. There were 400 kids and 200 counselors, so the dining room was huge! They took hundreds of photographs, so I feel like I was there too!

They got one day off a week and would travel around, camping or seeing cities like Philly or NY.

They worked hard, learned a lot, and won't be going to camp again! Back to the USA, sure, but not that kind of work.

They didn't miss their Aussie winter and their suntans are still healthy. Our summer is just about over here, Fall in a couple of weeks. This coming winter might be a shock to them after such a long summer. They were away for three and a half months before little sister and I joined them in Nashville, I missed them so bad!

From the photos I have seen, you live in a beautiful part of the world Emily! When are you coming to Australia???

I was born and raised in Athens, GA, home of the University of Georgia. I married in Feb. 03 to a man in the military and we have now been in Okinawa Japan for 3 years. We are going back to Georgia in June and will be there for 8 months while he completes school. We own a house in AL but are going to buy another one in GA while we are home. 10 more years left in the military so who knows where we will be next.

All my time in Michigan has been in the Detroit metro area but I've lived in various parts of the metro area.

I live in Western Kentucky......Paducah to be exact. Home of the American Quilters Museum and show. That is coming up in April here. Our town triples in size when that goes on. Definitely not a good time to make plans to go out and eat because you can't find a available table in town during that at any restaurant and there are also no hotels for miles around.....literally.

I live in Michigan. Hold up your left hand, palm out. Look for the top knuckle of the middle finger. That's me. It's a town called Gaylord, and we're 50 miles from the Mackinac Bridge that spans the Upper Peninsula to the Lower Peninsula. Right now we have tons-o-snow, and the snowmobilers are out in force. Our students have already missed 9 days of school due to weather conditions. And this is the first year I've ever prayed for more snow -- because last fall we bought a little cottage on an even littler lake, and the more snow we get, the more the lake rises. But I love it here!!! Great town to raise a family.

My husband and I lived in DeRidder, Louisiana, when we were first married for about 2 1/2 years. Being from Michigan, it was quite a culture shock. But we made some really good friends there and have kept them for over 20 years. We used to go out to dinner in Lake Charles. The heat and humidity, along with the palmetto bugs, really did me in. But the people were very friendly!

I'm from Michigan! Yes, I'm a troll too! Dearborn to be exact. I attended Edsel Ford High and graduated in 1975. Moved to Kentucky in 1983 and have been here ever since. It took me awhile to adapt to a slower lifestyle, but since then it's become more normal. Have you ever been to Greenfield Village or Henry Ford Museum? I lived within walking distance of both.

I was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan and lived in Wayne Until 1970. I LOVE Greenfield Village. My Dad was a piano tuner and tuned the pianos in the Museum and Greenfield Village. I moved to Orlando Fl in 1970 and went to work at WDW for a couple years. Moved back to Michigan in 1977 and joined the Navy. Was stationed in San Diego, Millington TN and Vallejo, CA. Moved to Hialeah, Fl after discharge from Navy. I live in Miramar now but I work in Hialeah.

I love the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor area. I have a good friend who lives in Pickney which is not too terribly far from Ann Arbor. That's pretty cool about your dad tuning piano's at the Village and Museum. I remember in grade school every year we would take a field trip to Greenfield Village and the Museum. Remember the tall out door clock that would go off on the hour with benches situated in front of the clock? Our class would sit on those benches and eat our lunch waiting for the little men to come out of the clock and bang on the bells! Boy, that was back in the late 60's. That dates me now doesn't it?? How about the candy store? My favorite was the rock candy.

What I remember best about the Village in bayberry candles. I must admit that I did not get to go to Greenfield Village or the Museum very often. What I remember best about Dearborn is Shopping a Crowleys in Westborn and my sister's rehersal dinner at the Chicago Road house on Michigan Avenue. Haven't been back to Michigan in over 25 years. Not much reason to go back since I have no family in that area anymore. Lets see....I remember the Jolly Roger drive in. It was on Eureka Rd or another road close by. Where was the Daly Drive In? Crowleys was our hangout in grade school. In fact, I remember getting caught shoplifting a 69 cent 45 rpm record. That was the first and last time I ever shoplifted. Crowleys has gone out of business. Kroger which use to be down on the other end of the shopping center is now where Crowleys use to be. I think TJ Max is where Kroger use to be. Do you remember Kressges 5 and 10? They use to have an eatery there. And then there was Sanders ice cream. God I loved that place. I still have alot of family there in the Dearborn area. I usually go for a weeks visit in the summer. I have been to the Chicago Road House too. Did you ever go to the Henry Ford Estate nearby?

The Daly Drive in was located in Livonia, Wayne, Belleville and Plymouth Which is not all that near to Dearborn but I had to ask. I am shocked to hear that Crowley's went under. My mom loved to shop there. Me too. When I was growing up my friends and I would walk to Wayne and go to the kressges 5 & 10. They used to make a fountain drink called a lime rickey which we all loved. One of my first memories of Christmas was when I went to Kressges and bought my Mom a pin cushion that looked like a tomato for 10 cents. I think I was about 7 or 8 years old. She loved it!
Don't even get me started about Sanders! We used to go to the stores in the shopping centers and have a hot fudge Sundae or a cream puff hot fudge. When ever we had to have a cake for any occasion them came from Sanders. When I was a girl scout we went to the Factory to see how the candy was made. I don't think I ever went to the Henry Ford Estate. I sometimes think I would like to go back to Michigan for a visit but then I remember how I went back to Orlando where I had lived from 1970 to 1977 and everthing was different. I guess what they say is true you can never go back.

Hi Yall!
I was born and raised right here in central South Carolina! So was all my family and my husbands family. South Carolina is growing rapidly where we are, so much so that it hard for most folks to believe when we get asked where we are from. When we got married we moved further out of town to the country, then after 15 years there it became quite the popular suburban area so 3 years ago we moved again 30 minutes out the other way now it growing in leaps and bounds here too! I wonder if its like this everywhere.

To all you Texans--wowie, I sure did love Dallas, and still miss that place--spent six years there and just loved the "big city" life!

Wishing you all the very best--please take care :)

Sincerely, Trish

Southeast Missouri -- the part called the "Bootheel".... It's that bit that hangs off the end of the state that Arkansas didn't want....

I live in Eastern Oregon right in the middle of No Where! Actually there is a small town called Burns. And it is 136 miles to the closest Walmart, 7-11, Burger King and Taco Bell.
I have lived all over the world, my dad was in the Air Force, my mom is English and I was born there too! My brothers were born in Mississippi, and my sister in Oklahoma.
So I am from all over but I live in Burns!

I'm in NC. I was born and raised in the North (Jersey girl all the way back then), but since getting married, I have moved to NY, then to NC and then to a new part of NC!! I love it here though. The winters are warm and the grass is green almost all year round!!
