View Full Version : Favorite brand of make-up
What's your favorite brand of make-up or one that you prefer? I tend to buy my foundation and powder from Clinique so that I can match it to my skin before buying.
What about you?

For foundation I have used Cover Girl ever since I was a teenager. I've tried various other brands, but my skin is very sensitive and it seems to only like Cover Girl foundation.
I love Elizabeth Arden blush. I had a makeover on my wedding day and decided to purchase some of the makeup. It was well worth the price as one compact of blush lasted me a year! I didn't believe it when she said it would last me that long, but it sure did.
Soooo....I am a Cover Girl and Elizabeth Arden fan. I have purchased some Avon stuff here and there, but have always been disappointed that the colors didn't look the same as they did in the catalog.

Its hard buying makeup from a catalog or from a shelf at the store where you can't try the product on your hand/wrist to test the color. Ack. I have brought home the perfect color (based on the color dot on the end of the bottle) and tried it on to discover I'm a lovely shade of pumpkin. :silly:
I like Clinique for my foundation too. Its all because I can try it out first...

I like Lancome foundation at the moment, but I am forever trying new makeup. I get bored after a while, so I am always looking out for something new. I especially like their lipsticks. They are pricey, but the colors are great.
I used to use foundation from the drug stores, Target, but got frustrated and ended up throwing them away because you can't test them in the stores.

My skin is extremely sensitive and for years could only wear makeup on Sundays for church, then it took the rest of the week to heal. :(
The new mineral powder makeups are wonderful for my skin. I can wear them all day, every day without any reaction. I use Mineral Secrets. I did have to order several samples though to get the right color.

My skin has been very sensitive for as long as I can remember. I love the Clinique makeup line as it works well with my skin. I've found it's a little more expensive than some other things I could buy, but it lasts quite a bit longer and it works well for me.

Their skin care products are perfect for me so I tried their makeup and really liked it. I'd love to go to MAC for a "makeover" some day though. The MAC store in the mall near me looks soooooo trendy and high fashion...I think it would be fun to pretend for a day. ;)

My favorite brand is bare esentuals. Its light, natural looking and it doesn't look like I'm wearing make up.

I think I've tried lots of different brands of foundation but finally my search for the perfect one for me is over, my DD recently started using Shishedo powdery compact foundation and the look was great, I never would have thought it would have worked for me too ( 20yr age difference) but it gives good coverage but still gives a natural look. I love it!!!

Since I have acne scars, I use Dermablend for foundation. I also bought their powders. As for the rest of the makeup, I also am a covergirl!!

I use ID Bare Escentuals on weekends. I also have to mix two shades, but you need so little it lasts forever.

I like Lancome. I have Bare Escentuals but have a hard time getting the kind of coverage I need and after about 30 minutes it's gone ... but I'm thinking it will be perfect in the summer when I am tanned (more even skin tone and regular makeup doesn't look right) so I will wait and try it again then. Other than that, I've tried other stuff but for the past 15 years I keep finding that nothing beats Lancome.

As my skin has become more "mature" <ahem>--I've found that I need a makeup that offers more moisture along with sunscreen. I've been using Bobbie Brown foundation for the last 6 months or so, and I really like it.

I either use Mary Kay foundation or Cover Girl. I have used Cover Girl for years and love it, but recently got the MK and decided that I like that too. Just don't like paying for it. lol I use CG for eyeshadow and blush. Loreal for lips, and Maybelline for lashes. Quite a hodge podge, huh?
I also love clinique & was a faithful customer years ago, but stopped because I found their products somewhat expensive, Ever since I've tried every name brand under the sun, but recently I revisited a Clinique counter & purchased their "blushing blush" in a neutral shade I love! I had help in choosing the right shade & though I spent a little more than I usualy do for a blush compact, at least I know it's the right color this time & I love it! I think I'm going to become a regular again because it makes more sense to spend a little more on something that's right for you & that you will use instead of tossing in some drawer. I'll be back real soon to choose a good foundation & eyeshadows in shades that are right for me! I love that they have promotions every now & then as well. :)

Well I have heard so much about MAC, but I really don't wear much makeup. I use covergirl powder because they have one of the lightest shades...which I need.
As for eyeshadows...ULTA
Eyeliner...Loreal
Mascara... whatever I decide to get
THATS IT!

I use Revlon foundation and mascara. I use Avon for color. I used to sell Avon and know the money back promise. If I buy a color from Avon I don't like, my rep. sends it back and gets me another one to try.

I will have to confess that my skin is in the 50+ range. I use a BeautiControl foundation that is especially for older skin and it is wonderful. Everything else I use is either BeautiControl or Mary Kay. I use the Mary Kay Day/Night wrinkle control stuff and it is wonderful too. Here's a little advise for all you younger girls. It is never too soon to start a good daily skin care routine. Clean off makeup and moisturize as is appropriate for your skin type. You will be glad you did as your skin ages.

Chanel! Just love their colors! I stick to that one brand otherwise I find I get confused by all the colors! They change every season now! I just don't wear make-up very often so I stick to classic colors.
Recently I found a place that custom makes your makeup! I think I will try them for foundation next after the stuff I have runs out... and also for powder since I have dry skin, finding a good powder is a challenge.

after years of being a die-hard clinique fan, i was told that they have discontinued their "gentle light" line of foundation. well.. that was enough for me to start shopping around. i found a very similar product at Kohl's.. their American Beauty line. You can try it on there, too, before you buy. It was cheaper than the clinique, so I may not be as loyal as I once thought....
i should add here that i only spend high dollars on my foundation. everything else is pretty cheap! i like the Rimmel eyeshadow from Wal*Mart and i like loreal's voluminous mascara. If you have ever heard of Arbonne, their concealer is just marvy. Has anyone ever tried the Bare Minerals? is it worth the price? i will be in Las Vegas at the end of March and I was gonna check that out at the Sephora store.

I am a new convert to ID Bare Esentuals. I have used it for 9 months now and love it. My husband loves it because he says it looks so natural.

I too love ID Bare Esentuals. It does look so natural and the eyeshadow is wonderful! However, I find if my face is a least bit dry, it seems to look "caked". But I figure that is my fault. I'm now trying to find a great face cream - one that will also help with the wrinkles.

I am a Clinique girl too. I too like the fact that I can go to the Clinique counter and there is someone there to help me get the right color foundation and powder for my skin tone. Eyeshadows, blushes, ect ...... I will buy just about anywhere. I like Cliniques skin care products too. I used to wear Mary Kay and loved it, but everytime I got a consultant I liked, they would stopping selling and get out of the business.

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best place to get a makeover? I was wanting to take my mother, who is 70, because she would like to start wearing makeup but not sure how to apply it. I don't think I would be a good teacher. Maybe a Mary Kay consultant would be good?
I use minerals too, after my hyster my skin changed and my old products (Mary Kay) made me have breakouts I have never had any problems since I switched to the mineral products (Bare Essentials)

I have tried them all!!! I even use to be a Mary Kay Independant Beauty Consultant. But when my skin started to have a bad reaction to everything synthetic, I turned to nature. I have tried many, many mineral make-ups and Aroma Leigh is absolutly the best in my honest opinion. There saying is "your skin, only better." and this is so true. I use Suki skin care for my whole body and it is nothing short of the BEST!!! Both of these make me happy! Every morning and every night it's like being in a spa, I LOVE natural products, and my skin does too, I look better than I ever have because of these wonderfully awesome products!

Wow, good topic! I've tried Prescriptives, Aveda, Matrix, Mary Kay, just to name a few. I seem to always gravitate back to NAO or Artistry. And I so agree, it is frustrating to buy things you can't try out first or don't have a satisfaction guarantee with it.

I used to be a Clinique girl until I became a stay at home mom years ago and wanted to save some money. So I spent many years trying all kinds of other brands to try and save money. I ended up finding and loving Neutrogena. They have a product that is very similar to the Clinique I used even the shades are named similarly. Sometimes they are hard to find as not all stores here carry it and I'm not so sure if I'm saving a whole bunch anymore but I really like Neutrogena. As for eyeshadows and mascaras and blush I usually choose whatever colors I like in any brand but I generally prefer loreal, and maybelline. I used to sell Avon some years ago but don't have a rep nearby now, their mascaras, eyeshadows, and lipsticks have great colors and lasting effects and regularly run on sale.

Oh, the money I have spent on make-up over the years. Probably could retire by now just on those bucks alone!
The only thing that works for my skin is Clinique. I will use different eye makeup and lipstick occasionally, but after trying just about everything out there, I've learned my lesson. Clinique and only Clinique for me.

I have Bare Escentuals but have a hard time getting the kind of coverage I need and after about 30 minutes it's gone .
I ditched the brush that is recommended for mineral powders like Bare Escentuals and use a soft, thin foam puff for more coverage. Also, I find using a benzoyl peroxide base first keeps the powder on. Moisturizer would do the same for non-acne people. Bare Escentuals is too shiny for me unless I use a matte transparent powder over it.
Physician's Formula and Neutrogena just come out with their own mineral formulas at a good price. My skin is acid so powders tend to turn darker on me. The transparent Physician's Formula Minerals is just right and not too shiny. The Neutrogena Minerals Light does turn a little too dark and pinkish on me but is acceptable. Most people don't have this color change problem and would be happy with these brands.
As for liquid foundation, I've used all different kinds but I tend to like Cover Girl and L'Oreal best. Lately I use L'Oreal's Infallible--it is high coverage and has an SPF 18 sunscreen.

I have used various different brands throughout the years but what works best for me now is the Bare Escentuals mineral powders. I love them and they stay put on me. If I don't use those then I will use Neutrogena.

I have used Mary Kay since I was 12, got away from it for a fe w years but finally broke down and cllled a naiborhood MK consultant (used to sell it years ago) and now I am back full force the new foundations are fab... they still have soem of my fav colors of lipstick etc so I had a complete self makeover! and my skin looks great.... daily skin car e is so important- I figure if my dear hubby can spend 750 bucks on car care (autobell season pass) for a year I can spend 400 to get myself back started on MK products!

News Flash! L'Oreal and Ulta have just put out mineral powder foundations, blushes and eyeshadows. Looks as if everyone is getting in on the act. Lately, I have been using a 2% salylic acid liquid as a base for mineral powders. Paula Beougan is the (Internet) brand I use. It is great for blemish-prone skin and is a wonderful makeup base.

The best foundation I have ever used is Clinique's Balanced Makeup Base in Honeyed Beige. I have used it since 1985. If I am ever lured away to try any of the newer brands with the promise of "glowing" skin, I am always disappointed and go right back to my Clinique.~Moonchime
