When I'm not working or sitting here at the computer, I enjoy taking pictures. Although my granddaughter is by far my most photographed subject, I love taking pictures of scenery. It's so much easier than trying to photograph a toddler in motion. ;)

No matter where I go, there's always a picture waiting to be taken. Living in the Northeast, I can capture the brilliance of the autumn foliage, the seashore (which is beautiful even in the cold months), the stark whiteness after a snowstorm or springtime flowers poking through the ground after a long winter's sleep. (Once I become a G3 members I can post some of my favorite landscape pictures in my photo gallery.)

Until now I never really thought of photography as a hobby, but it's something I love to do and I almost always have my camera with me. I guess that qualifies as a hobby. So I'm wondering....

Does anyone have any favorite websites for photography tips?

When should I move from a simple digital camera to something more advanced? I've had my Olympus for nearly 3 1/2 years and I'm so used to it that I hate to think of learning all the tricks of a new camera.

My husband is really into photography. He started a few years ago and is getting really really good at it. I'll ask him what sites he recommends.

Steve's camera is really complicated, but he knows all the gadgets. It just takes time and patience, neither of which I have. :D

I somehow ended up taking photos of a spoiled wienie dog. But anytime I go out with my girlfriends, we all bring our cameras to get photos together. It's fun to see how we are changing.

I love taking pictures! I have about 16 photo albums (containing about 300 pictures each) just from the last 7 1/2 years. Most are of my kids, but I enjoy taking photos of scenery as well, especially sunsets.

Oh I enjoy dabbling in digital photography. My oldest and youngest sisters are the true geniuses at this stuff, though. They each have several cameras and are leaving me in the dust. LOL. My oldest sister has been on the internet since Al Gore invented it--yeah, right ;)--and she is well-known for her photo blogs. She owns several sites and WOW, she Photoshops like no one else I've ever known. I just play with it but it's so much fun. Our Christmas photo this year was a composite of one my DH took and one I took with me Photoshopped in and the kids frozen in place. It was fun but, of course, time-consuming, to do. Wish I had more time to play with this particular hobby. :)

i just bought a new canon 7 megapixle camera - so now i am definately on a tight budget! my last camera was an olympus too. i loved it but it needed to be repaired and as a 2.1 mega pixel it was time to treat myself to a new "toy"

for my christmas card i took a picture of my kitten in the snow and photoshoped a santa hat on him and the glued a piece of cotton on the ball part of the hat for a 3d effect. got lots of compliments on that one

I love pictures, and have lots of them too!! My new thing is my digital camera. I don't think I will ever learn all the ins and outs of it. I love to take pictures and them make them look completely different with Adobe Photoshop! Plus the digital camera makes it easier for me to print the pictures I actually want, and delete the mistakes or mess ups!

I am lost without my camera...I have been in love with photography since high school. (22 years ago)..Right now they are mostly in boxes...i have a procrastination problem...or on my hard drive waiting to be printed.

I love taking pics of my kids and my dogs. I also have a small collection of pics of my sis-in-law eating...I don't take them on purpose, but I always seem to end up with one at each family gathering...hmmmm!

My goal is to get a little more creative with my pics. I use to with my SLR. My Digital camera frustrates me sometimes.

I normally use a 35 mm camera and then have them processed onto CD Rom so I can edit them and post them in my blogs and on the web in my .Mac account so family and friends can access them without having to download a huge email file.

We bought our daughter a digital camera for Christmas and her birthday. I liked what it did that I just won one in an eBay autcion today and am looking forward to getting it. Son is going on a music trip to Europe this summer and it will be nice for him to not have film to worry about.

Deb, does your sis include techniques and hints on her websites?

About this time last year I discovered Flickr.com (http://www.flickr.com) and am totally hooked.

I'd had a digital camera for a couple of years but I didn't take many photos. I joined Flickr (there are free and paid memberships) last spring and uploaded a few photos mainly as a place to keep photos for family and friends to view so I didn't have to email them all the time.

Within a couple of days I discovered that other Flickr members could (and did!) comment on my photos. I then discoverd that there are subject groups, challenges, discussion forums and more on the site and everyone is very kind and friendly.

My limited photography skills have improved so much over the past months and I've made a lot of great friends with similar photography interests. I highly recommend it whether you're looking to just have an online photo album or learn more about photography.

Ok well as for the photography hobby, well I have a digital SLR (Canon D20) it takes amazing pictures and at 8.5 megapixels well there you have it, I dabled in the 35 milmeter for years (my hubby bought me one when I was 21) then moved up to the medium format (all manual very easy to use but heavy and had to be careful to keep very steady) took it on one of our trips to Italy and have great photos of arcitecture etc. last trip we took I had my 35mm and video camera both stolen, so Aaron (hubby) bought me a digital rebel, this year I upgraded and the best thing is you cna delete as you go, save to dvd/cd, print at a photo store and share via email or the web.... I will nevergo back to film..... and my camera has the blacka nd white features and stuff so I can play jsut like with film (plus the cards are small so they are easy to store) I can get about 200 pictures on one of my cards....great for going to family events or to the park and of course my favorite subject my grandson....:)

I love photography. I am the amatuer's amatuer...I have no clue what I'm doing but I have a good enough camera that I end up taking some pretty cool photos...sheer luck, I guarantee it!

I don't know of any websites. Sorry!

I've been using a Canon Rebel 35mm...my goal is to convert to a digital SLR---simply to save on film. I burned 20 rolls of film on our last vacation to South Dakota...the cost of that adds up fast!

I love landscapes too, but I especially love photographing animals and believe it or not---weddings for people I know. I'm able to catch emotional moments that the regular photographer never catches because they don't know anything about the couple or their families. Each "personal" wedding I've done the couple have liked my pictures better than the high-dollar photographer they hired. Go figure!

I suck at night photography or fast-action shots...do you have any tips. I've played around with some of the controls (f-stop, etc) but I never can seem to get it right. Every now and then I get lucky but more often than not I don't.

Nice to meet another shutterbug!

I love photography too.I have my first digital camera. Its an HP435
I love it because it is simple and I get the quality I want. Unless you want to get into professional photography why buy a different camera?

I love taking pictures! I mostly take pictures of my 4 kidos, they keep me very busy. Latley most pictures have been of our newest baby. She is 11 days old, so shes seen many flashes of light. My kidos love when we take there pictures, we just never seem to get them all together at one time...they are very energetic! One day...when I'm not so increadably busy I would love to take pictures of land scape and nature, I love the outdoors!

BTW you should be able to purchase the reble XT body and use you rexisting rebel lens because the EOS lens work with the EOS digital camera..... My son has a film EOS ln7 (I think was the name) also a cannon and he uses my zoom all the tiem the only thing you can do is put a digital lens on a file camera but after doing much research the advantages to digital lens were really not that impressive to invest int he extra cost... and let me tell you after paying a fortune to get film developed.... even paying for prints of digital photos is a ton cheaper (I invested in an HP photosmart printer and print photos to share tat home I will just go to the photo store when I need a lot of copies of one photo or soemthing like that.... :)
