Other than the usual things such as clutter, newspapers and dust bunnies do you collect anything?

Over the years I have collected some interesting things. My first collection was hippos! It started with a ceramic trio my dad bought me and the collection grew to fill a room of my house when I got married! I ended up giving most of them away and moved on to cows. The cow phase didn't last long and I decided cookie cutters would be the item of choice.

Not only are cookie cutters inexpensive and easy to store, but they are functional! I have hundreds, if not a thousand, in all sorts of shapes. They make me happy and make my family nuts. Why? Because that's all I ask for as gifts! "You must want something more!" they exclaim. No, that shaped piece of tin is all I want. The problem is, I have so many it's hard for anyone to know which ones I don't have. lol I'll have to go through a cookie cutter site I found and leave hints about some I don't have. After all, my birthday is coming up soon! ;)

I also collect carousel horses. I have a curio cabinet full of them! Not too many miles from where I live there is a studio where artists carve carousel animals. It's an amazing place. There is also a huge carousel in that town which I love to visit, though it's been a couple of years since I've been there. Would you believe...one of my favorite carousel horses is a cookie cutter! It doesn't get any better than that! ;)

Too cool! I have a dear friend who also collects cookie cutters so I know how special they are!

I used to collect baskets and when I found myself tripping over them, I decided I may have gone a little overboard! :o

I actually collect cookbooks, crystal, and unusal colored glass items. The colored glass is a new thing. Most of the pieces are either shades of reds, blue or green and each has a unique shape.

My husband would say I collect drinking glasses. I love drinking glasses and find it hard to resist when I see a new set in a pretty color or style! That of course leads to a nice selection of pitchers to go with the glasses!

I've got to find something new to collect that doesn't take up a lot of space! ;)

One thing I have found myself collecting are coke and water cans or bottles from the countries I have visited. I need to find a different place to put them or quit this, have not decided which.

I also collect those souvenier spoons on vacations.

Those are a couple of my collections.

I love depression glass and little dishes. I have a little dish of some sort in every room to be used for a temporary change dish, a place to lay your watch or to be used to hold make-up, cotton balls, ect. No ordinary soap dish for me! !t has to be a little plate or pretty antique small bowl for me :) I also collect "Ginnette" dolls from the 50's made by Vogue. I had one as a child and as an adult, she brings back the little girl in me :)

Refrigerator magnets. I even bought one at the Mayo Clinic the last time I was there.

I used to be into flamingoes, but that has sort of gone by the wayside. I do still really like anything having to do with towns I've lived in, though. So old advertisements, postcards, that sort of thing are of interest to me.

I collect clocks. I really like coo-coo clocks from Germany. I only have a couple of them, but I have other clocks that I have collected from Christmas, birthdays and other events. I someday, when I'm not moving as much (right Mom???) want to have a huge grandfather clock that ticks and tocks. :D

Lately, I collect thimbles(they are marked)! They include Ireland, Paris, Vegas and Cozumel. :)

Well my husband several years ago started me a Cherished Teddy collection so as it would make birthdays, anniversaries, mother's day and christmas easy for him to buy gifts for me.

I have to say while they are cute my last count was over 200 of them and I'm quickly running out of room. Guess he'll solve this by buying another cabinet to display them. LOL

but the one thing that's really stuck through it all is buttons.

As a child, I used to spend HOURS playing with the buttons in my grandmother's button bag. I loved the noise they made, the way they felt, the colors, the different designs, materials, shapes...it seemed I discovered a bunch of new buttons every time I looked. Who knows, maybe I did! Some of them even date back to my great-grandmother.

My own button bag right now is a big ziplok baggie, but one of the things I'd like to accomplish this year is sewing my OWN button bag. (and I am NOT adapt at sewing, so this will be a big thing for me) :D

I am a pharmacist and I have a pretty large collection of old drug bottles, old pharmacy items and pharmacy stuff. I keep it all in the same room so that it does not spread all over my house. My collection grew so much (from me finding neato stuff myself to other people giving them to me as gifts) that I have several boxes packed full in a closet because I just don't have room for them all! I have not bought a new piece in several years because, since my collection is so big, I am very picky. I will only buy one if it is truly unique, very different, and really catches my eye.
I know that this collection sounds strange to non-pharmacists out there but there are actually tons of people to collect this stuff! I am going to leave it all to my alma mater when I die (hopefully way in the future) to auction off for scholorship money. That has been done by others in the past and they raised a lot of money with them.

I collect vintage bone china teacups. My grandson started it when he and his aunt went to an antique shop and got me a teacup. He was 3 at the time. It didn't help that my sister had a modest little collection herself and I just loved looking at her small collection. Everthing snowballed after that first teacup, and seven years later, I have around 5 dozen. A lot of them are floral, and I'm not sure just how old they are, although one is from Germany and stamped with "U.S. Zone", so I know that it's from the end of World War I. I have about a half dozen teapots, and they aren't vintage, but they are pretty. I look for teapots made by Arthur Wood. That company went out of business a couple of years ago, so I may have to search the second hand shops. My cups must be in good condition, since I actually use them. A few years ago, one of my sisters put on a tea, and each year a female family member hosts the tea at her place. This year, my second cousin will have it at her house. Last year she gave me a Belleek tea cup that is about 45 years old. Depending on who the host is, we use their tea cups even though they aren't vintage. To be invited to the tea, you have to either be born into the family or marry into it. My young adult nieces look forward to it. My sister in Maine has even started her own vintage collection.

I used to collect owls but now I have gone overbaord and collect baskets, pottery, angels, Santas and Byers Choice dolls. I also have most of Oprah's books from her book club and if I don't have one it is because I gave it away to someone else to read. My daughter collects pigs and my son collects sports memorabilia. DH collects papers.......he is an accountant and NEVER throws a thing out. He always says, "you never know when you might need it!"

Ohh, I love buttons too. I think I like them because they are such a nostalgic little item, easily collected and doesn't require dusting. :bliss:

I collect plates. I love to fill my walls with plates and as my sister says...there is always room for one more plate. ;)

Lately my plates have been Blue Ridge brand as I like the bright colors, pottery weight of the plates. My other plates are china. Many are hand painted and very old. I love them!

Now I have undeniable proof my family is not strange after all.

My oldest daughter has about 16 years worth of a rock collection with rocks and stones from all over NC from mountain to coast. Other rocks came from Sea of Gallilee, Dead Sea, Bethlehem, Jeruselem, Gaza Strip in Egypt, and from a palace of Saddam Hussien's in Iraq. Others come from Australia, South Dakota, California, and other places. She wants rocks from Hawaii, Alaska, Germany, Ireland (preferably near the ruins of Tara), Holland, India, Japan, and Paris. She held a piece from the Berlin Wall, as have I, but I can't find her a piece for her collection.

I tend to collect various eggs, Native American Indian items/artifacts, dip pens (which I use), coffee mugs, and state quarters. My eggs range from relatively inexpensive to pretty high-priced. My favorites include an egg made from fossilized wood, two hand-painted/hand-signed/hand-numbered by the artists, and a cedar egg of wood.

I adore anything old. Part of my collection of old things includes a piece of silver stamped into a coin. The silver came from the Spanish Galleon ship the Atoche which sank in 1622 where it spent over 300 years lost until recently discovered a few years ago. I have an Aladdin Lincoln Drape oil lamp, a family heirloom that went through 5 generations and now is an antique. One of my rocking chairs is 4 generations old. The most special items are a pair of ceramic geese my grandmother made with her own hands many years ago. Each goose bears her name put with her hand. I am her namesake so this makes them even more special. Last but not least (unfortunately for my husband), I have an authentic bayonette from the civil war that I dug up from an old battlefield.

It is great to know I am among others that share my passion.

Hi
Would love to see everyones collections, they are so varied in interests....I love to collect anything vintage related to hunting or fishing. I have old lures, flyrods, duck/goose calls, advertising, books, magazines.....we live in a log home and have a lodge theme to it, so most of my collection fits right in.

Thanks for letting me share .....

I collect refrid. magnets also. You can find many humorous ones on All Posters.com. Last year I began collecting snowmen (since you can leave them out past Christmas). I found the ones made by Heartwood Creek by Jim Shore to be very tastful looking & colorful. You can visit that site or find them at the Hallmark stores & small boutiques. They also carry Santas & Nativity Sets ( all done in very bright colors).

A part of me knows this is to remember my dad who used to be in India during WW2 and had an afinity with them, but I have jewellry ornaments bed linen elephant. I also collect old postcards, the oldest one is about 1901 and I find it fascinating to see how the world used to be like. If I had more leisure time I would probably collect pets as well as I love having them near me, but I will have to stick to one dog two cats and an owl for now!

I've collected angels for many years and try to find one whenever I travel to a new place.

I also started collecting teddy bears a few years back and my most special one is Edward who was "born" in London. I picked him out at one of those "Build a Bear" stores and he travels with me. I try to get another one whenever I go to a new state or country and am currently trying to find one in the Philippines.

I also love antiques and love visiting antique stores in new places.

My most beloved collection is my Princess Diana memorabilia that I started collecting since she first came into the public eye.

I used to collect teapots but not on purpose. I don't even like tea!

Hubby & I bought a lovely teapot made by a local artist while we were on our honeymoon. For some reason this was some kind of bat signal to both my mother and mother-in-law that I wanted to collect teapots. Over the next 12 years or so I received dozens of them all shaped like objects: cats, dogs, ducks, roosters, woodstoves, antique sewing machines, you name it. I lost all of them a few years back in a house fire and was very firm with both of the mothers (and anyone else) that we had decided that since we were rebuilding and therefore redecorating we wanted to go with a simpler, clutterfree look and would not be collecting anything nor would we be putting up any knick knacks, etc.

I would however like to collect unique peppermills but only 3-5 - enough to make a small statement on my kitchen counter but not enough to cover every surface of my home. I fear if I buy more than one I'll end up being gifted with 20 more!

Oh please.......I don't ever want to collect anything ever again. I told my husband that I wanted to start collecting angels. Well, I meant the ones I thought were unique and interesting, you know, kind of one of a kind. Well, now I have 198 angels and that's when I stopped counting. He has bought me every angel that he and everybody's sister has ever seen or come across. Ugly ones, little ones, big ones, pictures of angels, every ethnic angel there is, even the most sexy angels sitting on swings, you name it, I have it. NO....I can't ever collect anything ever again......or I would have every kind of anything I collected.

Bless his heart.....he aims to please me. Everytime I see and angel now I steer him the other way or else I'd be bringing it home. My friends and family think it's hilarious and pick on me all the time about it. To make it worse I had to display all of them on bookshelves in our house. The only thing that's saved me is we moved and I had to pack every one of them away in boxes and boxes and labeled them "lots and lots of angels. After we remodel the house we moved into I just don't think we are going to have room for all those angels. Ever try dusting those things. It takes days...*omg*

I bought this cute little fairy for my garden....guess what? I now have 5.........! Oh no, not again!

I have a couple things I collect.

I collect samples of sand from all over. I have them displayed on shelves in our coastal themed living room.

I also love to collect recipes. I have so many that when it comes time to make something it's easier to go online and find the recipes than dig thru my recipes and find it. Sad I know, I've started a binder with the ones that I use all the time, but have got to figure out a way to organize the rest of these things.

DH collects just about anything Nascar. I've started buying Nascar matchbox cars. Our large entry used to be decorated in Nascar before I took over the room and made it my office/studio. Now it's all in totes waiting for DH to paint the walls in his office and then display it all. His most expensive item was a Sterling Marlin Racing Jacket. He wore it once and then decided it was safter displayed than worn. I have to agree.

We have an old kitchen so when I see older kitchen items I've been picking them up, that has started to be it's own collection as well.

Whew! We have too much stuff!!!

I collect coffee mugs....and we use them, too! I just got a really cute one this weekend....its green with Tinkerbell on it. Every once in a while, I switch out the ones in the cabinet with ones I stored away....this way, I always have a 'new' one to use.
However.....I have made it clear to my family that I'm very picky about which coffee cups I like and I'd prefer to do the choosing....so far, they only bring a cup to me when they've been traveling...I dont mind those because they are special.

Nemadji pottery - the name supposedly comes from the clay which was collected at the Nemadji river in Minnesota. The pottery was originally produced in a factory in Moose Lake, MN and was a big tourist souvenir draw in the 1920s and 30s. It is identifiable by its bright swirling colors. Some common color combos include: green/white/brown, orange/red/gray, turquoise/orange (my favorite!) The Nemadji stamp on the bottom of the pot is usually an indicator of authenticity. They are very collectable right now, and very reasonably priced.

Rae Dunn is a ceramic artist who creates this charming hand-molded-looking dishware. She uses white glaze on all her items, with little kitchen utensil stamps in the middle of her plates, platters and containers. Her cups and candle holders have words like 'Dream,' 'Twinkle,' 'Pause,' etc. She has some really cute vases with little trees painted on them and her latest set of small dishes, that I've seen, have different little pictures of cheeses on them. It's very minimalist in palette, very well done. I think her website is still under construction at this time. I'll have to check on that.

Does that help? :o

When I was young it was very easy to find a new thing to collect, but as I got older I didn't seem very interested in anything. I finally found something to collect... wine glasses. Well it started with wine glass when I found these very cool glasses from prottery barn, but now it it just all glasses. I found some very unique margarini glasses...margarita/martini. DH has recently started buying things at resale shops to sell on ebay.

I've found some very pretty victorian style collector tins by Daher. I only have three and DH & I were talking about selling them (after all that's originally why I bought them). They are much classier than our house so they will probably go on ebay, but they look very nice sitting in my hutch right now.

Looking back on my post, I realized that I dropped one of the Roman Numerals when describing my German made bone china teacup. It's the one that has U.S.Zone stamped on the back. It's not from World War I, it's from WW2 after we occupied Germany.
I do have several teapots, and I also have enough coffee mugs to open a store  Most of these are from when DH and I visited someplace, or just something special that has caught my fancy.
I have cat figurines that I never planned on collecting, but my MIL got them for me. She used to get me junky teacups because she figured I collect ANY teacups. I told her that I appreciated her thoughts, but the cups must be vintage bone china, and since I don't like all of them, I have to collect the ones that I like. I cannot tell her what I like, because I just don't know until I see them. I also have a fair sized collection of 45 and 33 rpm records. I started buying my records in 1964 and continued until the end of the 60's. After that, there wasn't much that I liked as far as music went, but once in awhile a good tune would come out and I'd buy it. Now I just collect gray hair and wrinkles :)

I collect old post cards. It's really funny to read the backs of them. Some are early 1900's. My favorite sets are Valentines and Christmas, but I also have Angels, Easter, Horses, and just some odds and ends cards. :bliss:

I collect flamigos! They started as a joke. I live in a duplex (which sadly, after nine years, I'm being forced to leave) and I used to have a wonderful neighbor whom I loved to tease by threatening to put those plastic flamingos in the front yard. Well, two years I recieved a diagnosis of possible ovarian cancer right before my birthday. I had casually mentioned to some of my friends how I liked to tease KH about the flamingos. My friends at work gave me a pair as a result. I named them Thelma and Louise. And then two different sets of friends each gave me a set of flamingos for the front yard. I've named them Laverne and Shirley and Lucy and Ethel. And then my friends from work gave me a flamingo that lights up and bobs up and down when plugged in, I named him Enrique. So, it goes on and on now. I have flamingo clothes, pajamas. You name it. Even dishes!

I finally realized that flamingos are to me what the pink ribbon is to a breast cancer survivor. There were no apparent ovarian cancer survivor ribbons when I had my surgery, so the flamingo is my personal symbol.

I collect Santas, Boyds Bears, and Salt Glaze Pottery. It's a blast when I can find an item that falls into more than one of these catagories. I'd love to start collecting teapots or salt and pepper shakers, but I'd need more space.

I collect lighthouses. I have many differnt ones from around the world. I have a lighthouse shower curtain and showerhooks. I love anything with lighthouses on it. When my husband and I watch tv shows and see lighthouses on them we try to see if I have them. My children have also got in on that. It has become a family event.
My husband collects early medical ,school books, and religous books from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. That has also become a family project.
