View Full Version : Household accidents? Ouch! I fell yesterday

I have heard that most accidents happen at home. I'm sure this is true for the women with young kiddos at home. But as a grown woman with no children in the house, this hasn't been a concern of mine for a long time.
Until yesterday.
I fell in my bathroom.
I have a large master bathroom with hardwood looking floors. Yesterday morning I turned to grab a towel from the cabinet and my feet came out from under me. I fell, hitting my head on the edge of a door, landing with one leg under me, the other turned funny.
I was so stunned, I sat there on the floor for a while gathering my thoughts and slowing down my breathing. Wow. How did that happen?
I still have no idea what caused me to slip.
But its made me realise that I need to be cautious as I'm not a 16 year old. I woke up sore this morning. Achey. Flu-like aches. I'll take some tylenol and take it easy in the bathroom.

Ouch!! You're lucky you didn't do some serious damage to yourself. When you feel better, examine the area where you fell. Figuring out what happened might help you to avoid falling again. Were you standing on a bathmat? If not, maybe you need to search for a mat with a good rubber backing.
I'm glad to hear you weren't more seriously hurt.

Yikes! (((Kathy))), I'm glad you weren't seriously hurt. I agree with (((Catherine))) that you need to try to figure out how it happened and take measures to be sure it won't happen again.
Hmmm, I need to take a look around my own home and see if there are some things I could do to help prevent accidents. I'm sure there are!

{{Kathy}} I'm glad that you are OK. Falls can be very nasty sometimes. I've come close doing things like carrying baskets up clothes up and down steps...and almost miss a step. It's really scary sometimes.

(((Kathy))) I'm glad you're ok and I hope your aches go away soon! I have also fallen and it really does stun you. I hope you are able to figure out what happened so you can prevent it from happening again! Take care of yourself!

((( Kathy ))) how scary. I'm glad that you weren't badly hurt. Hopefully those aches and pains will ease up soon. Take it easy until you feel better - another reason for some pampering :)
I have noticed lately that doors and cabinets have taken to jumping into my path sometimes. I have to renmind myself to be careful and watch out for them.

Kathy, I am also glad that you are ok. I agree with the others you need to do some investigating so it won't happen again. Take care and rest, Carol

Ouch! (((Kathy))) I'm glad that you're okay. I like Catherine's suggestion of looking around the area where you fell, making sure that there wasn't anything unsafe there.
I am having to make myself slow down. I have always been a bit klutzy, mom said she should've made my middle name "grace" ;) My husband keeps telling me the same thing. I've been known to cut corners too short and literally walk into walls! As I get older, I am making myself be more careful. I'm not as agile as I used to be and I don't snap back quite as quickly.
I think I have a good article about accidents in the home at my office. I'll take a look on Monday and share with everyone if I can find it.

Kathy,
I am glad you weren't hurt real bad. Those falls can happen so fast. Home is where I seem to have injured myself the most over the years.
Could there have been a tiny bit of water on the floor? Take care and rest.

I figured out what caused me to slip. It wasn't water (since I wasn't wet and neither was the floor) but I did change hair products a week ago for a leave in hair treatment....
Its got teflon in it I think! The floor in the area where I stand was absolutely slick. I could get some ice skate and go at it in there.
I got out the cleaner and cleaned really really well. And now I'm very very careful how I spray that stuff on my hair...making sure its not on the floor.

Isn' that weird... a beauty product could make you worse off than you started. They need to have a warning label on that!
