I have a sister who swears she can remember way back before she was even able to walk. She can remember my Mom putting her on a blanket in the shade outside for her nap. To this day, she says that the drone of a small plane engine is comforting because it reminds her of way back then.
Mly memory isn't that good. My very first childhood memory is of my fourth birthday. I don't actually remember the birthday, but I remember what I got. It was a child-size broom, mop, dustpan and brush and it came with a small plastic apron (red, I think). I loved it and remember how happy I was when I saw it. Ha, it didn't take much to make me happy back then.
So....I'm asking you to share with us your very first childhood memory. This should be fun. ;)

I remember sitting on the livingroom floor, playing with a toy when I was two. My Mom suddenly exclaimed, "Oh, my goodness...look at the beautiful sunset!" I looked out the window and looked at the sunset with her. It was the first one I "remember" seeing and I can still recall it.
I love sunsets, and so does my husband. When we designed our house, we made sure the biggest livingroom window faced westward, so that we would have a good opportunity to view the setting sun. I've heard that some sunrises are pretty also, but since I am a night owl, I'm never up at sunrise to check it out. :)

I think my earliest memory was when I was three or four. My dad and me drove up to the school to pick up my brother after school as my dad was going to take him to the barbershop for a haircut. When we got to the school we could not find my brother. I remember walking in the school and being in awe. I couldn't wait until I got to go to the big people school! Turns out my brother forgot about the haircut and took the bus home.
I am not sure why I remember this so vividly. I even remember what pants and shirt I had on. I can close my eyes and picture the entire thing in my mind.
I have a few earlier memories, but I'm not sure if I really remember them, or if it's because the stories have been told to me so many times.
My first memory isn't all that great. It's actually sad. My grandma died of Ovarian cancer when I was 2. I still remember looking out the front window of my grandparents' house with my brother as they took my Gigi away in the ambulance.
In lighter memories, around the same time frame, I remember walking in on my older brother eating Elmer's glue from the bottle. He was squirting it down his throat! He still claims he never did. ;)

I've lived most of my life in southeast Texas but was born in Pennsylvania. I can remember sneaking outside once and making a snowball when I was about 4 years old. I hid it in a cabinet and when I went back to get it, I thought it had been stolen - all that was there was a puddle of water.:D :D

My earliest memory is of an event that occurred when I had just turned 2 yo. My brother is 18 months younger than I am. He was 7 months old and learning to walk (yep... he was eager to walk!!!) It was a Sunday, my mom was doing the :laundry: and there was this pale of water. My brother grabbed on to my dress to stand up and I fell in the pale of water.
Of course, this memory is more like a picture, but it is real: we have no pictures of it and, even though my mom often told this story, she had never mentionned that I was wearing a pretty dress.

I dont know how old I was, but I would think it would be under 2 yrs old. I remember my dad putting me in my high chair and putting Cheerios on my tray, then my dad stubbed his toe and dropped the box of Cheerios all over the floor. Nothing sentamental, but it is my first memory.

I can remember a couple of things. I remember mom coming to pick me up at day care early one day because of something that happened there, and the other one was when we were having our pictures taken there, and the new red plaid dress I wore for it.
I also remember the time when my tonsils were taken out and the mask of horrible ether on my face, scarey.
I also remember having chicken pox and getting these real cute paper cut out animal things to play with and the kids next door that I played with trying to talk to me through the screen window. They already had them, and were a little older than me.
I don't remember any earlier than 4 for sure, but these things are clear as day to me , like it was not so long ago. I find this very strange how some thing make a mark on our memory and other years there is no recall at all.

One early memory for me was when I was about 3 and I had this clear koala money box filled with pennies etc and I wanted mum to add up how much money I had. Quite the little saver! Mum wouldn't, so off I toddled and crossed 2 busy streets and walked the length of another to my father's mothers house and got her to count it.
Fortunately I had been taught the road rules at a young age or unfortunately as my mother was to find out. Funny thing is mum never taught the other 6 siblings the road rules quite that early again. Can't understand why!

Well actually, Sib2, I was already walking and was 2 years old. That was my first memory, but also around the same time, I remember the farmer, on his tractor, plowing the field across the street. He was plowing in my direction, but I was too young to realize that he couldn't come through the stone wall and across the street, so I stood on our front steps screaming my head off. Either mom or dad was with me, because I know they wouldn't let me out like that all alone. My world was very small then, and in my mind it usually contained only myself.

I think I remember laying in my crib. There's a little more to it. I was born in December. Until the age of about 45, I had eczema. It appeared as soon as the weather turned cool in the fall. I'm pretty sure I was out of the crib by latter part of the summer prior to my fourth birthday. Meaning fall/early winter prior to my first, second, or third birthday, I think I remember laying crosswise in my crib getting sunlamp treatments (lamp was clamped onto crib bars) for the eczema. I asked my mom about it in her later years -- she couldn't remember. Do I?
I think my earliest memories are around age 4,, I remember the day my younger sister got attacked by our cat (we had just gotten it from the shelter that day), my parents rushed her off to the hospital and my grandma made french toast for my older sister and I for supper. My sister came home with 3 stitches on her forehead and claw marks throughout her scalp, that night a man came to get the cat, it had to be tested for rabies, we were told they were taking it to a farm after....of course now I know how they test for rabies so that was obviously a lie :(. It is just strange the details.
I also rememeber a nightmare around age 3, I loved to chew on my favorite dolls hand and dreamt that I chewed it right off, I woke up and cried for a while before I checked her hand and realized it was still there.

My earliest memories was when I was 1 1/2-2 years old. I remember the next door neighbor who use to babysit me. Her husband played the accordian and I would laugh when he played it. And I remember being in my walker, God only knows how old I was, and I was scooting all over the kitchen as my mom was at the kitchen table. I remember her getting a bottle out of the frig for me.
Wow, I cant remember a darn thing from today but I can recal 30something years ago. LOL

My earliest memory is of the time when I broke my arm when I was 3 years old. I remember climbing up on the dining room table and my mom telling me to get down. I did.....the hard way. I fell and broke my left elbow. I remember the doctor putting on the cast as well. Unfortunately, this was the first of many memories of me breaking bones......

I remember the day my brother was born. I was almost 4. That was the first time I had ever been away from my Mom. I woke up to cold cereal from Dad and I remember Dad trying to fix my hair so I could go to the daycare center. If I remember correctly, he definitely did not have Mom's gentle touch!

Oh, my, I do understand you.
One of the contenders for My First Memory Contest is having that ether mask on my face when I had my leg operated on at 3-1/2 or so.
But I remember how sweet the nurses were, too.

My earliest memory was of all 5 of us kids every morning, first thing after waking up, grabbing our clothes and running to the old gas heater in the hallway to get dressed as it was the only warm place in the house. I can also remember the pot of water my mom use to put on that stove to keep the air from being too dry in the house. I'm not sure how old I was, but my oldest brother who is 10 yrs older than me was still pretty young, so I must've been very very young. I can also remember the door at the end of the hallway would slam shut from the breeze in the house when the windows were open. Odd thing is, I don't remember anything else about what that house was like before my folks remodeled, added on to it, and added central h/a, which they did when I was around 4.
