I've been on a schedule (the past 3 weeks) of calorie counting and workouts that have been yielding great results in weight loss and feeling better (building muscles).

And then today at my weekly weigh in, I hadn't lost an ounce. Weird, I thought. I'm working out and staying below my calorie target....and then the question:

Are you eating enough protein? Are you eating a protein snack mid morning and mid afternoon?

Gulp. I hadn't. An apple. Yes. But not extra protein.

I headed to the grocery store and picked up high in protein foods for snacks...and love the idea that nuts is a great choice. I can have 30 whole nuts (peanuts, pecans, cashews, etc) and get 6 gram of protein and good fats. (Are there good fats....I guess so?)

So I just had my mid afternoon snack and loved it. Now I'm looking forward to my evening 30 minute walk (which I've been doing DAILY for only the past 3 weeks but its already becoming a habit of enjoyment) and hopefully will find the scales cooperating this next weigh in. :goodscale

The good part, though, is that my britches are very very loose so I know I'm losing inches. :D

:situps:

How are you doing with your health plan?

I have had a horrible past several months in terms of keeping my weight down and staying in shape.

<cue violin music>
During the icy winter months, my "every day" five-mile walk always is compromised by the harsh weather in Minnesota. Usually it gets down to 2 or 3 days a week from November through March. This winter, however, it got down to "zero" days a week. :(

In January, I slipped on a half-dollar sized patch of ice in my driveway, and took a tumble. My right leg must have taken the brunt of the impact, because it hurt for several weeks and I was limping around like a pathetic old hag. Then, when I decided it was time to ease back into walking...another spell of icy weather descended upon us. It seemed like "Mother Nature was against me!"

In mid-February, I took a vacation at an all-inclusive resort in Tulum, Mexico and ate like a pig for a week. Indulging in chocolate creme brulee and similarly-delectable desserts every night (not to mention after lunch!) is not behavior condusive to weight management. :o

Anyway, I am still "not where I would like to be" in terms of my "bod," but....tomorrow is another day! :daisy: All we can do is keep trying, and never give up.

Same thing happening here , in fact I just went through some tyroid testing and nothing showed abnormal there I have the same problem for 2 months so I certainly know how you feel about the scales NOT going down. At least you can tell by your clothing you are losing inches , I cant even say that is happening for me ...

Starting early in the year I decided to start moving and eat healthier (dont count calories, or follow any diet). So far have lost 44 pounds, and have not had a weigh in where I gained (I weigh in every second Friday). In the process hubby and son have lost nearly 25 pounds each (mainly from not having any junk food, pop or home baking in the house). We walk 5-6 days a week for a minimum of 1 hour. It has been an eye openner, looking back at our lifestyles. I recently got permission from the Dr to halve my Blood Pressure meds and he said to come back in a month so I can come off it completely! I will never be able to come off my thyroid meds as my Thyroid is dead. But am happy that it will soon be the only prescription I am on (at one time took 4 different pills a day!)

Nuts are great, they really pack a lot of energy.

And the fats are of the pretty good type, but it pays to check for each kind.

I love nuts! I usually eat almonds or walnuts for an afternoon snack and a piece of fruit. I like nuts because the protein curbs my appetite and holds me longer than anything else. Just be careful, they do have fat.

I can't bring nuts into the house...they are too much of a temptation to me. I'll turn down a bowl of ice cream for a couple of handfuls of nuts!

What about low-fat string cheese? That goes great with an apple or other fruit and will give you protein as well.

Nuts count as a fat serving on the NutriSystem plan. I'm glad I can work them in though because I love them!

Other protein ideas are:

fat free cream cheese (in celery or sweetened with Splenda as a fruit dip)

non fat or low fat cottage cheese (again goes great with fruit)

thinly sliced turkey or ham rolls (with or without FF cream cheese)

light yogurt

Sounds like you're doing great! Joyce
