[COLOR=DarkOrchid]Hi girls!
Well, I found out 030606, that our Dept was being relocated to another city (but not until 090106) I am not able to move nor would I want to.
I am a nurse but I really enjoyed what I do (for almost 13 yrs) Records/donor Dept Supervisor @ a large blood bank.
I have done the hospital, Dr's office & not wanting to return now @ this stage of my life & I have been away from it for almost 13 years.
The hard part is working everyday in a job that I no longer have & some staff are leaving now, very frustrating/stressful/depressing. As I have said "it is the longest funeral I have ever been to!"
I am searching the net for jobs & it is tough!
Well, until next time
Thanks & take care

Marianne, I am so sorry that you are losing your job. I will keep you in my prayers at this time and pray that you find a job with at least the money you're making now, or more. I know that at our age it becomes a little more difficult finding employment. Also, I hope that whatever new job you find will be rewarding.....it's no fun going to work if you don't like the job. Please keep us posted.

Marianne,
I am sorry about your job. Although "it is the longest funeral you have ever been to!" it is good that you got as much notice as you did. I have friends who have been in similar situations and only had a couple weeks notice.
Look at this as an opportunity to grow, learn and do something different.
Good luck in your job search and I hope you find a new and exciting opportunity you will enjoy.

Wow, that is rough! You are holding up much better than I would. When I worked at Kmart, our store was one of those that was always almost on the list to close. Finally we got word that is was going to be sold to Sears and become a SuperSears. I couldn't handle working there. I moved closer to my parents, rented a house from them (I knew they wouldn't kick me out if I can't pay the rent!!!) and found my current job working as a meat cutter at the local grocery store.
My thoughts and prayers and with you.

Thanks MJ!
Glad things worked out for you :)
According to my husband I am not handling it well & he wants me out of there ASAP
He is worried about my health as I am recovering from a very complicated hysterectomy, & stress not help
Thanks again for all of your prayers & support
Take care

Marianne :comfort:
I am sorry to hear about your job. While I wasn't given notice, I did know that I was going to be laid off. I just *knew* it and it did make going to work very difficult. When it did happen I was devastated, but in the end, it was a good thing. It gave me time to get my health in order, gave me some time to rest, and I eventually found a job closer to home with much less stress.
I hope that everything works out for you. Are they offering you a severance package? You may want to call your local state unemployment office and see what your options and benefits are.

Thanks Kim! :)
Yes, severance based on 12 yrs (would have been 13 yrs Oct 11!)
so that is until 120806. But I must stay until 090106 to receive severance.
Glad things worked out so well for you :)
Thanks again for your kind words & support
Take care

That is incentive to stay until the end. Severence will help until you find another job. At least they are being decent about it.

Yes MJ,it is incentive:) But they need us to stay!
This is the 1st time this "humanitarian"organization has done this with an entire "hub" dept, & they need us! There are not enough staff in the other location to handle the work load.
The other lay offs have not been so generous

What kind of severence are you getting?
Here it's one month base pay for every year worked.

I'm sorry about your job. Have you thought about going into education and teaching? There are so many colleges and community colleges that need medical educators. The AHA also has been looking for CPR, ACLS, PALS, and NALS instructors. I hope you find something soon.

Hello! I just had to respond to your post. I'm so sorry that you're losing your job. I completely understand how you feel. I'm 53 and been looking for a year for a job. I have a degree and over 30 years experience in customer service, bookkeeping, and clerical. No one wants to hire me and it seems that is pretty common in my area. I'm presently working for a company that cleans offices at night. You can't imagine how degrading this is; but at least, it's some money coming in. :( :o
There are days, like today, that I just want to crawl under a rock and die. It's that bad.
Thanks for listening!

I am so sorry for you. But, use this to look forward to a new adventure in life. Who knows, you may like the new job better! You may find your new best friend. The pay might even be better!
