View Full Version : Do you think putting lemon in my water counts as a fruit portion? ;)

Okie, its a silly notion.

And with all the talk about fruits and veggies and the need to increase in our diets, it made me think about the lemon in the water. I'm sure it doesn't count towards my fruits....

So let's talk about water.

Last night I got a large glass of iced water and squeezed some lemon juice in. I enjoyed it sooo much that I realized that I didn't drink enough water....and should drink more...and will add lemon juice on occasion to decorate the water and entice my tastebuds for a treat.

Do you drink plenty of water? Do you flavor it? How are ways you have increased your water intake?

I don't drink as much water as I should, but I'm improving. I make sure I have a bottle of water with me nearly all the time, and when I get tired of drinking plain water, I drink Fruit 2 0, which comes in lots of yummy flavors. I also drink seltzer water, which my doctor said qualifies as water intake. Sometimes I just want something with bubbles. Plain water can be sooo boring.

The only "tap water" I consume is the amount it takes to rinse down a pill. :o I have never liked plain water. I wish I did because I know how healthy it is. I've even prepared a pitcher of "lemon-laced" water to have on hand in the frig, and I find that I still don't indulge. :(

To compensate, I try to drink at least two cans of LaCroix Mineral Water each day. I love the orange, cranberry-raspberry, and mixed fruit flavors. It also comes in lemon, lime, and a couple of other flavors, I believe. No calories, tasty, refreshing, and certainly healthier than consuming no water at all.

I don't like plain water either. I will drink it with lemon or tea, but don't want to drink much tea.

What helps me get the water down is to fill a pitcher or container with the amount of water that I want to drink that day and set it on the counter or desk. I think this helps remind me to drink my quota for the day.

If you get tired of lemon, try orance slice , very good. I have also used a little fruit juice just to give it a little taste. :yum:

I'm heading to the kitchen right now....to get another glass of ice water with lemon.....

While I appreciate the daily requirement of the water, the multiple trips to the potty slows me down. :silly:

I admit I don't drink enough water. I prefer bottled water but will drink filtered water from the frig. I love flavoring not only with lemon, but lime is also a treat! There are a lot of great flavored waters out there and I enjoy drinking them.

I promise to try to drink more water! Those multiple trips to the potty may slow me down...but it's a good sign to me that I'm certainly doing something right by drinking more water!

I do drink lots of water. Am I the only one? I like it chilled in the refrigerator. We are blessed to have one of those wonderful super duper water filters so I don't have to buy bottled water.

Yes, but just remember that you burn more calories every time you get up to go to the restroom. ;)

And I LOVE to drink water and drink a ton a day. I like to keep bottled water on hand. It makes it easy to grab one and take it with me. I keep some chilled and some room temperature. If I'm cold, I don't like to drink cold water. But I do love cold water first thing in the morning. I think it gives my body a shock. lol

I always drink plenty of water-----after having a kidney stone when I was only 8 years old, drinking plenty of water has never been a problem.....I definitely don't want a repeat of that experience! I just use filtered tap water as bottled is too expensive for me.

I never leave the house without grabbing a couple water bottles to take along. Not because I'm "being good" - I'm just always dry & thirsty! My kids like the Fruit 20 & DH likes seltzer water.

When we were on vacation there was a big pretty bottle of Fiji water in our hotel room that I r-e-a-l-l-y wanted to drink, but for $8.00  it had to remain a room decoration!
When we returned home I found it at a fraction of the price at our grocery. I like the little 16 oz square Fiji bottle with flowers on it. (It tastes better when it's pretty :p )

Because they're pricey, I carefully rewash & reuse and get more mileage out of them then I would the store brand throw aways. That way they only *look* expensive.

 Shhhhh - don't tell anyone.

I really have to make myself get the water I need each day. Yes, I've found it helps me too when I put some type of flavoring whether that's lemon or lime, etc in the water, just kind of makes things more interesting.

We have a water well and our water is really good - no added chemicals. I drink it all day long. After coffee, it's my favorite beverage.
I think that adding lemon juice should count as a fruit :)

I love the idea of going to the potty as a bit of exercise :D

I try to drink water but it isn't my favorite. I am more of a diet pepsi kind of girl. But when I do drink it I just as soon have it plain. Unless we are in a restaurant and then I like it when they put the lemon in the water. It just isn't as good when I do it at home. :D

Hey, I've got a great water tip since I do NOT like to drink water because of its usual yucky aftertaste. I add a few drops of real (IMPORTANT it has to be the genuine stuff--not artificial) peppermint extract to my cup or glass of water. Honestly, it has helped me drink water like never before. I also used to drink it ice cold but since reading on another site that people tend to drink more when it is room temperature, I have tried that and found it to be true for me. :)

I have had to learn to drink water as I used to not drink anything, aside from coffee in the morning! Now I drink more water, the colder the better, and if I keep it in site it helps to remind me to drink. I "taught" myself to drink by using a huge mug a friend bought me that holds 64 ozs of water! She would call and remind me to drink until I "got the hang of it!"

As Kathy mentioned though, it is the going to the bathroom part I really hate! I guess I will just chalk that up to excercise!

The only way I can drink water is with lemon -and it has to be ice cold.

I have found that drinking Fruit 2O's has made it easier for me to enough water every day.. has anyone else tried it?

Do you think putting lemon in my water counts as a fruit portion? ;)

I'll count that for you if you'll count my fruit flavored fluoride treatments at the dentist! ;)

I am not a water drinker. Like a camel, I used to go days without drinking a drop of it, but I do make an effort to get in at least several tall cups of it a day now.

It's definitely more palatable with a splash of lemon or lime in it or... live on the wild side and put in a splash of each! I like the flavored waters available at Wal-Mart but I wonder about the carbonation. I hear conflicting reports on if it's bad for bones or not. I don't need any more trouble there, so I try to avoid carbonated drinks of all types.

One tip that helps me remember to drink more water is to put a brightly colored cup in the ice/water dispenser door of my freezer. When I see it, I say "Oh goody, I should drink another cup of water!" Glug glug glug...it's all for the better, right? Right!

Another tip is to put several rubber bands on a bottle of water. Take one off each time you drink the water in the bottle. Put on one rubber band for the number of bottles you should drink each day.)

I'm becoming more of a water drinker, but I think that I am the only one who actually likes the potty trips. I drink a lot of water, and then its time to go, and after that I feel like I have lost weight. My problem with water is I am not always able to go when I need to which leads to UTIs which.. not pleasant!

Water is just about all I drink...well except for a couple cups of decafe in the a.m. .......and a glass or two of vino some evenings :D . I keep bottles of water in the fridge and take one or two with me wherever I go. And I make sure I drink at least four 16 oz. bottles of water every day. It hasn't always been that way, a couple years ago I didn't drink much water at all. I feel much better getting my water quota every day.....and I do like to add lemon sometimes :)

I also don't like the taste of plain water & don't even come close to the 8 glasses a day that is recomended! :drink: I go through phases where I try to force myself to drink more, but it doesn't last very long. I drink lots of coffee throughout the day & I know it has the opposite effect of water so I'm surprised I haven't turned into a dried up raison by now! I tried Nestle flavored waters in an effort to increase my intake & they're really good, but expensive if I would drink 8 bottles a day! So I tried creating my own version of flavored water, by adding lemon slices to a large water bottle & keeping it in the fridge for whenever I'm thirsty. It's pretty good actually, but I still don't drink 8 glasses a day. :(

I drink plenty of water, probably about 12 glasses a day.

At work, it is easier because I have an insulated mug that I always have with me and there is fridge with an ice maker on every floor. At home I found 1/2 tray if ice cubes works well in a 32 oz bottle. By the time the ice melts, I'm just about done with the bottle.

Somehow the plain water isn't as appealing at home so I add lemon because I find it very refreshing and more thirst quenching. Mostly I just use concentrated stuff in bottles because it is easier, but using fresh sqeezed lemons tastes so much better. If I buy fresh lemons, to save time and only have one juicer clean up, I squeeze the whole bag with the juicer and put the lemon juice in a bottle. In fact I plan on squeezing a bag this afternoon :D

The only time I drink plan water is right after a workout. Then I drink a one liter bottle. Other than that I drink flavored seltzer water all day.

I usually drink water in the morning when I am working out. They have 24 oz bottles of water right there and if you don't have one they make you drink it!

Everyone mentioned the lemons, limes and maybe oranges. But one that wasn't mentioned that is really MUCH better than it sounds is cucumbers. I was splurging in Vegas and the spa had water with cucumbers in it. It was so neat and refreshing and a real change. I ended up drinking quite a bit of it and have done it at home.

Try true lemon in your water. It is great. Dehydrated lemon in an easy to carry packet. I swaer by it and it helps me drink more water.

I'm happy to since reading this thread I have been drinking more natural water! When I finished my 1 liter bottle of seltzer water the other night at work I rinsed the bottle out and filled it with water from the cooler. I finished it before I left for home. Now if I could just do two!

Cucumber water? That sounds interesting. I will have to try that.

I love water! I think it is better with a slice of lemon, though, and super cold!
