What's been your way to lose weight? My tips have been:

• Not eat past 8
• Drink lots of water and drink when hungry
• Not eat anything fried
• Do cardio 5 xs a week for atleast 30 minutes
• Do weights 2 xs a week

What has worked for you? Do you have a special method?

I have found exercise at least 3x a week, weights, and eating a balanced diet with lots of veggies, fruits, fish, chicken, and turkey works for me. I have gotten in the habit now of not eating processed foods either. I only eat desserts once in a while, mostly fruits now in it's place. I also limit any white products, sugar, white flour, white potatoes, and white rice. I use whole wheat, sweet potaotes and brown rice......much healthier and lot's of fiber and vitamins.

Exercise is the difference, and have been doing it for over 15 years. I have remained at my desired weight all my life by doing the exercise and eating healthy, small portions and by watching the calories.

Cutting out small things like soft drinks and mindless snacking have made a big difference for me. I am still working on exercising regularly and adding more fruits and veg.

I have found that when I avoid snacking late at night, try to make sure I am getting plenty of exercise, eat things with low fat and watch my portion sizes, I am able to maintain my weight loss.

Several years ago I stopped saying that I was going to lose weight and actually did. I joined a gym and started counting calories. I exercised every day and stopped eating as soon as my daily allotment of calories had been consumed. That taught me to use them carefully! I cut out most snacks, didn't fry anything and just tried to eat healthy foods. It worked and I lost about 75 pounds. I was a bit more than just plump to start with :D I still exercise ( mainly dance and walking ) and have kept the weight off. I feel good and can usually keep up with people much younger than I.

I've always battled with my weight and... most of the time... my weight has one the battle  I'm now back on a loosing streak.. finally and, hopefully, for the very last time

For me, the things that work beste are:

Limit portion size
Choose lean meats (such as boneless, skinless chicken and fish)
Drink lots of water (thankfully, I've always loved water)
Keep tabs on what I eat by keeping a food journal... be sure to include those foods I'm not supposed to eat.
Exercise: I love Curves and I bike to work all summer.

I lost 50 pounds 20 years ago and have been successful in keeping most of it off. My weight has fluctuated a bit, but I have never been close to that weight again.

I lost the weight by being sensible in what I ate and cutting out all butter, gravies, etc. I eliminated all fried foods, baking or broiling meats. I made sure I measured and weighed my meals. I had a diet plan from a dietician in which I was allowed so many servings from each category.

It was hard at first, as back than, there were not alot of lo cal choices, like lo cal dressings. The ones that were available were yucky! The only diet soda was TAB. Any of the lo cal choices had an awful aftertaste.

The lessons I learned than have stuck with me today. It's about changing your eating habits, it shouldn't be a diet, but a change in lifestyle to a healthier you.

I walk, go to Curves three times a week and follow the South Beach diet along with lots of water. I really try and watch my portions becasue even eating the right foods in big portions can cause you to gain weight. I have had a slow go of weight loss and am now on a plateau for over a year. I lost a total of 54 pounds and 34 inches thus far.

I try to follow a healthy eating plan rather than diet so-
no treats thinking it won't matter if I just have ...
avoid processed food
keep to low fat
plenty of fruit and veg
drink water
exercise

This usually works for me. I can't exercise at the moment and I am subbornly just about four/ five pounds over my normal weight but that's not much and I expect it to come off when i can resume the exercise properly. I do not believe in fad diets, I have seen too many friends lose weight only to regain even if it is slowly, afterwards. You need to plan a diet that works forever and is real eating.

My most recent weight loss was unintentional but in the past, the only method that has worked for me has been portion control. Truly, limiting myself from certain kinds of foods has never worked for me. I know I could NEVER do the Atkins or South Beach thing as carbs and I are very good friends and will never be parted in this lifetime. I love refined carbs as well as whole grained things, too. I eat a wide variety of food types and don't forbid myself anything. Once I tell myself a thing is forbidden, it's like waving a red flag and I WANT IT. So, anything is permissable as long as I have it in reasonable portions. Another tip for me sounds kind of simplistic but I just tell myself to stop eating when I'm no longer hungry. And if it's dinner time and I'm not hungry, I do not eat. It's not scientific but it works for me. :)

I know it is a new trend.... But Gastric Bypass is NOT the way to go!!

I have a slew of health problems after my gb procedure. Yeah, I am thin, but all the problems that went with it were not worth it.

Unfortunately, there are no quick fixes for weight loss. I have tried everything over the years, it seems. Three weeks ago, I finally did what I know works best for me. I went back to Weight Watchers and have lost 17.2 pounds. I still have a long way to go, but I am on my way!!

One of my best friends had gastric bypass surgery and, for her, it has been great. She lost 150 pounds and has had zero complications and zero healh problems as a result. BUT, I think she is lucky. I have also known several who had the surgery but were not truly committed to what it takes to maintain the weight loss and gained it all back. That proves that there really IS no quick fix. Even gastric bypass can fail if you are not committed and have your whole heart and soul ready to do what it takes to lose the weight.

I think that, as long as it is healthy, do the plan that works best for you.
Good Luck!!!

I have to workout at least three times a week. I never use the diet word - it just sets me up for failure - but I try to make healthy lifestyle choices when I eat. Sometimes chocolate cake is a required! If I don't deprive myself when I really want it, I can say no most of the time. It always helps me when I have an event out there to be thinner for. My wedding was an easy one. Now I want to look thinner when I graduate with my Master's. I have over a year, so I can do this sensibly!

I would say that if you monitor your portions that would help..And cut back on the soda's..
Before I had my hysterectomy I would have anywhere from 2 to 4 20oz soda's a day...and boy did that pack the weight on..But since my surg last week I have maybe had 6 or so and I have lost 8 pounds...

Gastric bypass surgery is an extreme measure that may have problems accompanying it down the road. The best way to lose weight is through a healthy eating plan & exercise. :)

I have found that these 7 tips work for me ;
1. no eating after 7 p.m.
2. 3-4 servings of yogurt daily
3. no white bread, pasta, potatoes & rice...choose brown instead.
4. drinking lots of water
5. lots of fruits & vegetables
6. no fried foods
7. broiled, boiled or baked fish & skinless chicken. Avoid red eats.

DH and I are trying the Sonoma Diet.Has anyone done that one yet? It is very sensible-pretty much anything white is forbidden, but a glass of wine is allowed-thank goodness-makes it all worthwhile. If I have good success i will definately share.

I have been on a weight loss journey since June. I have lots to lose. What has worked is portion control, 3 meals a day with 3 small healthy snacks, exercise, exercise, exercise, and water, water, water.
I had surgery a month ago and have hit a stall so this week and next I am South Beaching it to kick start the weight loss again. I journal everything I eat, count calories, and have a good support board.
Also I reward myself with a new charm for my bracelet for every 10 pounds I lose, did I mention I have alot of weight to lose?

The "We're Short A Nurse Workout Plan" (as I dubbed it): 14 hour nursing shifts where you don't sit down for the first 10 hours and never stand still for more than 5 minutes. When we lost a nurse back when I was charge nurse on a dialysis treatment floor I dropped 40# in 4 months and it didnt' matter WHAT I ate. That was 3 days a week, plus painting the house (up and down ladders), cutting the grass (push mower, 2 acres), gardening...3-4 hrs a day on off days. As for dietary principles, all these fad diets...whatever works for you but be careful. Bottom line: eat well, eat enough, eat naturally...lay off the processed stuff and not worry about fats or sugars or counting anything because we weren't meant to worry about that stuff. If nature made it, eat it. If it was processed, milled, manufactured by man, leave it be. Simple. I firmly believe that it's not the meat we eat that's killing us...it's all the chemicals and preservatives in our foods and our sedentary lifestyles. I am surrounded by too many healthy 80-90 year old farmers who live out of their wives' cast iron frying pans...and off their own land - pork, beef, fish, vegetables, fruits, (and even tobacco) ...to believe anything different.

I've been doing WW about a year now and exercising of some sort everyday. I've lost 50 pounds. The key, eating fruits/veggies, drinking LOTS of water. I was injured in Sept so the loss and exercise slowed down and I can't wait to get back to "normal" exercise and activity. But I know sticking with it is what I have to do.

I think the key to weight loss is portion control and being active. Other things are having healthy foods available for snacking and quick meals and making sure to drink a lot of water.

How to eat healthy - that is the question!

For the past year I have been working out regularly and have lost 40 pounds. But now I am stuck at the sam weight. I guess the next step is to start eating better. I am horrible in my eating patterns. Some days I don't eat hardly anything and others I am a non-stop feeding frenzy. (Nothing like the extremes!)

SO my current goal is to increase my water, vegatables and fruit intake. (I always seem to forget that fruits and vegatables are necessary.) So while 4-5 servings is the recommended amount. I am starting with trying to get 3 servings a day (and not all by orange juice).

So far today 0 for 3 better get started.

I went from over 200 pounds when I joined hystersisters to about 140 in 9 months. I kept a steady stream of exercise, lots of water instead of coffee and soda and also just ate better. Now I teach others how to lose weight in a good and healthy way that best suits their lifestyles.

I started Weight Watchers about 6 weeks ago and love it. I have lost 12lbs and i can have anything I want. I walk a mile and a half everymorning and i hate working out but it is like i have to do it. I work at a school so there are about 10 of us that work on it together so it makes it alot easier.

I have been doing weight watchers for several years. I have lost about 50 pounds to date (I have lots more to lose). I think the main point is that it has to be a lifestyle change, not just a diet.

Some of the things that I know help are:
- drinking your water - at least 64 oz/day
- exercise daily
-make sure you are getting 2 milk servings, 2 essential oils and 5 servings of fruits and veges
- avoid processed foods
- eat whole grains

Regardless, of what you do - no weight loss program should be a quick fix if you want it to be a lasting change.

Since having my hyterectomy almost 2 years ago, I have been battling anxiety and depression. I just dont have the energy to exercise, yet I know if I exercise I will regain energy. I need to feel good about myself again and I know weight loss will help. I need a swift kick to jump start me.
