Our latest cable bill came with a notice that the prices were going up. A few dollars here. A few dollars there. Knowing that I was already paying more than I wanted to pay, I picked up the phone.

I called customer service and asked if there were any promotions that I might be able to take advantage of as an exisiting customer with other choices for my tv viewing.

She transferred me to retention/promotions department. By the time I got off the phone, I had a great deal on my cable bill for the next year.

They were kind, courteus and I ended up with a great deal. It helps to be kind and courteous too!

The service representative also encouraged me to call again next year when my promotion runs out to request another one.

Seems the key to saving money on some bills....is to ask!

I should try that with my satellite provider. All the deals for new subscribers are better than what I am paying right now.

What a neat idea. We just got a letter that our satelite services were going up. I think that I'll try that too. If I don't ask the answer is no, so it can't hurt to try :D

That's a great idea! I have called my long distance carrier and asked for a promotional discount and they were more than happy to do it!

I got the idea to call when my neighbor received a check for $100 for switching from her carrier to my long distance carrier. I thought, I've been with them forever...I wonder! They gave me an excellent deal which included 6 months of free long distance.

It never hurts to ask!

I was a sat customer, but my bill kept going up. So i called the cable co and asked if there were any deals if i switched. To my surprised i got 1/2 off my new cable bill for the next 18 months. Yeah!

I did the same thing recently. I call each year. Our promotional savings were expiring and the bill was going up by about $35. All you have to do is tell them you are thinking about switching to another cable company.

My husband recently did this. He had a co worker who was just signing up for cable service and found out her bill was going to be $10 cheaper than ours for the exact same services. So he picked up the phone and called. They lowered our bill to the same price.

I think the same holds true for your long distance service. I have heard that it pays to call and check on new specials and deals.

This worked for me when they were coming to install my internet. They were going to charge me $99 for the guy to install my internet. I decided that was way too much. So I called to cancel and go another route and they lowered it to $25!

Funny thing is that a mac doesn't need anything to get on the internet. It's already setup for it. Except the installer didn't know that because he had never setup on a mac before. He actually messed it up and left without having me on the internet. So I called them and they gave me my money back. :D
