So many people look at me oddly when they hear I am a Spanish/German major. Most people at my school have a hard time comprehending how Education is not part of this as many people here are in Education.

I have come up with 7 ideas for what to do after school (I am still a sophomore, so I have time, but it is interesting to me what I might end up doing, but I am sure I will love whatever it is) and they are these:

Grad school for Interpreter (spoken)
Grad school for Translator (written)
Missionary to Russia
Become a Bible Translator
Work with High School Student Exchange
Flight Attendant/Stewardess
Tour Guide to brring people to other places in the world

As you can see I have a lot of variety here and I would love to find more variety. Right now I do not want to be tied to one specific kind of job, as in I know I will go where ever God calls me to go, but if anyone has any more creative answers for a Spanish/German major who loves to learn languages, please tell me!

Hi Michelle :)

One of my friends is bi-lingual (Spanish/English). She has worked for United Airlines in the reservations for many years. The hours are very felxible for her and she really takes advantage of the travel benefits! She also worked teaching Spanish in a local high school, and she still does some tutoring.

Have you thought about adding a minor to your major. For example, my sister majored in Spanish but has minors in Sociology and Criminal Justice. She now works for the Dept of Homeland Defense, and prior to that worked for a police department. These jobs require language skills but also some background in other areas. Adding a minor may help you do that.

I'm a German/International Affairs major myself (with a minor in history), so I know what you mean about people not knowing what to make of your majors. I'm planning to go to grad school in for German/History. If I were you I would definitely think about picking up a minor, perhaps in Political Science if you're looking to work for the government as a translator/interpreter.
