As a mother of 5-8 at all times and most all are teenagers we tend to have way more "stuff" in our home then needed. Once every three months we do the
PUT AWAY - THROW AWAY- GIVE AWAY
cleaning day
Take three brown grocery bags and mark put away, throw away, and give away on each bag. Set up a series of bags for each "cluttered room" and fill them to the top. Take things you have not used and are just collecting dust to the throw away if its no good and the give away if it can be someone elses treasure. I have my kids do this every 3 months and in return of the bags being full they get a new item off the wish list they keep with me. Out with the old and non used...its our way of THINING out the home.

Good idea! We have been "thinning" out as we are in a small house and we don't fit with all the "stuff" we save!

That is a neat idea. I usually wait until Purple Heart or another charity calls and asks for a donation. That gives me the incentive to do some clearing out. I may try your idea - once every 3 months would help keep down the clutter.

Great idea...especially since I tend to think of decluttering in closets...Its really something that is necessary anywhere stuff gathers.

In my case I realized that I have a kitchen cabinet that collects mugs, glasses, anything that we drink from including freebie big gulp cups for hot TExas summer days.

I am going to hit that cabinet and do a major "thin out".

I started thinning out a few months ago. First the Kidney foundation then Purple Heart. I have been calling Purple Heart to see when they will be in the area. I was told to call back the second week in Feburary. I have four garbage bags full of items just waiting for them to be pick up. I will need to get busy again as I have a few more things in my closet and glasses & cups in kitchen cabinet:sunny:

That really is a great idea - but getting the kids to actually do it would be a huge chore, LOL

Well I got part of my "decluttering" done. My oldest child moved out on his own yesterday, I'm sure that will help alot since he was a slob, LOL.

I hate to get rid of things. I am a pack rat!! I always tell myself... "what if one day.." My mom had to make a rule... if you haven't worn it, seen it, or touched it in a year ITS OUT!! I still hate getting rid of stuff, but then I tell myself I have space... time for new!

That is a great idea! We are in the process of a room addition being added on, and my mother-in-law is moving in! So, I REALLY need to declutter right now!!
Thanks for the idea!
