I have been taught many prayers as child, but I do have two favorite ones that I really love. The Prayer Of Serenity, I have this one on bookmarks, plague and a special bear that was given to me by a dear friend.
I also love the Lord's Prayer, it reminds me of two things. It was the prayer that Jesus taught His disciples to say and it was my Dad's favorite and just hearing it, bring tears to my eyes and I feel close to my dad.

I have a few favorites --
Hail Mary, The Lord's Prayer, and of course, the Rosary.
They are standards, but they are comforting.

I have to agree, I love the Lord's Prayer. It is a comfort to me.
I do not know the Rosary, although my mother does. I have often asked for her to get me a blessed Rosary and she has not gotten one for me.
Any ideas on where I would get such a thing?
Do you have a Catholic store near you? That's where you can purchase a Rosary beads.
You can also purchase them online at http://www.totallycatholic.com/
and there are other catholic online shops too. Send me a personal note when you get your rosary and I'll email you the prayer, okay?
Let me know if you have any questions, I'll be glad to help!

The Lord's Prayer, Psalm 23, both of these prayer's gives me great comfort everyday. I know that Psalm 23 is usually for when someone dies. But in saying it everyday I have realized that it is also for the living. When David wrote this Psalm he was saying to God that he knew that God was guiding, providing & protecting him. Also, David was saying that he knew that God was healing him spirtuley and comforting him with his lovingkindness, tender mercies & faithfulness. And that David new he could trust God no matter what. That God was giving him the grace to get through it all. And that his cup over flowes with his love for God & God's love, joy & blessings. And the last part of the Psalm David is saying that he will walk in the way of the Lord every day & one day be with God in heaven.
I also say the Hail Mary every day.

I have to say it is the Lord's Prayer. It has everything in it. Praise, thanks, confession and requests for what we need. Jesus provided us with a perfect prayer I think.
I am not sure how Psalm 23 got to be the scripture for when someone is dying and at their funerals, it is definitely a Psalm to pray all the time. I would say the Psalm focuses on God's reassuring presence with his people.

The 23rd tells about the great Shepherd who watches over His Sheep. He promises to guide, provide and keep us. Isn't that a peaceful thought?

I too love The Lord's Prayer. My show choir stands in a circle holding hands, heads bowed, and says it before every performance. It is such a comfort to connect with God and calm our nerves before a big show.

Another of my favorites is "Lovely Lady Dressed in Blue" (http://www.angelfire.com/hi3/catholichomeschool/lady.html). I remember my younger sister reciting this when she was just an itty-bitty thing and how sweet it was to hear this prayer in her little voice.
My favorite is the "Serenity Prayer".

Must be The Lord's Prayer, because whenever I'm having a nightmare where someone or something is after me, I wake up reciting that prayer.

I have to agree. I too also find comfort in the Lord's Prayer.
But like you Jean, I too sit & talk to God often. I find it a real comfort.

Scripture in Ephesians 1:17-19 says "I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father may give me (you) the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that I (you) may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of my (your) heart may be enlightened in order that I (you) may know the hope to which he has called me (you), the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for me (us) who believe". I like to personalize it by replacing the words that are in parentheses with the word 'me'. Our God is an AWSOME God!

My favorite prayer is the one Christ prayed before he was arrested. It is John 17:1-26. I can just feel the love that Jesus has for us when I read it.

I love Psalm 91, it has always filled me with a clear sense of His power and love for me. When ever I'm feeling overwhelmed this gives me alot of reassurance.

I love the Lord's Prayer, it has gotten me through some tough times. I learned it as a child and I wonder how many children will learn it in this day and time.

I enjoy having personal converations with Jehovah God. None of my prayers are alike. God is my friend and thus I talk to him as such.

Matthew 6:7 says "when praying do not say the same things over and over again"
When I pray, I have a personal conversation with God. It is my time to let Him know what is in my heart.

I find that interesting as the translations I use talk about that when we pray not to babble and not to use many words and then in verse 9 Jesus says this is how to pray and gives us the prayer that is called the Lords's Prayer.
I think many of us here pray prayers and talk to God in ways other than the prayers that have been listed here. I know I do.

Thanks ((((Mykhal Jaems )))) for this reminder. I just thought I would post the full scripture here for clarification.
Matt. 6:7 it says, But when you pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathens do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
God bless:)

I am one who is interested in word and word origins. In looking up vain I found this from the Oxford Distionary:
ORIGIN Middle English (in the sense [devoid of real worth] ): via Old French from Latin vanus ‘empty, without substance.’
Do prayers like the Lord's prayer, praying the Psalms and other prayers that people use qualify as empty, without substance?

Me too ! Good research, that is exactly what vain means. That is why I posted this scripture , in hopes that it will clear it up even more. The answer to your question, Absolutely not! The prayers that are vain are explained in Matt. 6:5 (KJV). Hope this helps.
God bless

There are many sites on the net where you can buy and learn to pray the rosary. You may also look for a religious supply store in your area. The prices range from less than a dollar to hundreds of dollars. No matter how much your rosary costs or if it is a gift, it is a very comforting way to pray. I find it espeacially helpful when worry causes me to have trouble falling asleep. Take care and God Bless.

The Serenity Prayer, and I also use Psalm 23 like a prayer.
