What we have done to reduce clutter is keep an open give away bag in the laundry area. I have a few organizations that call for donations (they pick them up) so whenever they call I say YES, and put out the bag for them. We now have pick ups every other week on average and you can write off the donations.
It has made reducing clutter easy rather than all consuming, since I only have to do a little at a time

A couple of days ago I had a frustrating day at work where I didn't feel like I had accomplished anything so when I got home I decided it would make me feel much better if I actually accomplished something. I communte and tend to "live out of my vehicle" and my vehicle had turned into a closet/dipsy dumpster/home improvement center/pharmacy/photo albumn/ filing cabinet. I don't think I had declutterd by vehicle in two years! It took me an hour to get all the stuff out, sorted and put in the appropriate places! I felt SO MUCH better after I was done!!!! I am NOT going to let my vehicle get this way again, and will go on to adopt cleaning out another room.

It seems that the more I try to unclutter a space, the messier everything else gets. I'll try to go through a box of papers, and always end up with stuff I don't know what to do with.

I don't know if this will help, I know some of it has helped me. Flylady.net has everything you need to declutter and keep up with those messes that magically appear around your home, car or work. You can get daily reminders if you like, or just go to the site and get started. No perfectionism here, just jump in and go. Don't know what to do with something, file it for 3 months, don't use it after that time? Toss it out!!!! Free yourself from the junk and the unused and the dress you swore 10 years ago you'd get back into. Let it go! :) If you let it go you will realize what has been waiting to be welcomed in but you didn't have room for it before (and NO I don't mean sales shopping stuff!). Get some peace of mind as well...give Flylady a try.

I just spent some time on the FlyLady.net website and am hooked. Not only is it informative, it's fun!
I'm going to go home and polish my sink after work today!

Clutter is always my biggest frustration with keeping the house "picked up".
Once I started to think about bringing new items I've purchased or acquired into the house I try to think about removing something. Otherwise, my house would end up looking like those hoarders on Dr Phil's show.
So if I purchase a new iron, I take the old one over to Goodwill. Or if I purchase new laundry baskets, the old ones get recycled (or tossed out if they are unusable).
I need to get back to my kitchen where I tend to buy new things without removing something else I'm not using to give it away.
