Well, after a year where I considered selling and buying (and you all know how THAT turned out), it looks Iike I found the home improvement's man to renovate my flat. I've had things very organized in a cardboard file box, but now I know I need something smaller to run around with. So what you all suggest? Loose-leaf, acordian file, or something else?
Thanks!
Congrats on finding the home improvement guy! I hope that the renovations go smoothly.

Thanks, Kate! I wanted to go to see some tiles today, but I guess I won't -- it's 17:46 local time, and I've been here since 7:15 or something like that.
Anyone who has good hints on packing for self-storage is welcome to send them. I'd really appreciate them.
Have a good weekend, you all - our workweek here is Sun-Thurs, and one more click and I'm outa here!

Goodluck with the renovations, after our recent ones I realised that although it's stressful, seeing the results make it all worth while.
I like to use a loofleaf folder with dividers ( just one of those with the soft cover and plastic sheets) it makes for easy transport and it's good to have colour sheets and brochures on hand.
Enjoy :)

Marian,
How long will your stuff be in storage? And what are you planning to put in storage? Depending on what you're putting in there and for how long it may pay to spend the extra $$$ and get one that is temp controlled. If you're going to pack delicate items you may want to invest in some bubble wrap and some good boxes. As I said, it all depends on what you're gong to pack up to put in storage.

The best advice I got for packing things for storage was LABLE, LABLE, LABLE!!! No matter how sure you are that you won't, you will inevitably need to find something in storage at some point....Here's how I did it...
1.Make a detailed list of what you put in each box.
2.Lable each box with a number and where the stuff came from (kitchen, desk drawers etc)
3.Lable the list with the same number and location...
4.Keep these lists (one for each box) in a binder, small notebook or something similar
5.pack your boxes in the storage unit by number so you can easily find them
6 make sure you lable ALL sides of the boxes.
This way, when you need an item, you can look at your lists, find which box the item is in and go straight to it. This has saved me so many headaches! Hope this helps...

Well, the renovator starts working on March 11, according to the contract he has to finish (or start paying penaltie) by June 11th. The stuff is going into storage on March 8, and I assume will be there for a week or so after he is done, too.
I don't know how serious the temp control is, but it's the only place near enough to be convenient, that is purpose built for storage. There are lots of storage companies that rent unused housing on kibbutzim for storage, but that means ground floor near fields (read field mice, dampness, etc.) and distance.
I'll be buying good boxes (not the stuff the mover gives for free) for the serious stuff, and my bro's kibbutz makes bubble wrap, so I'll have a lot of that.
Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it!
Marian,
It sounds like you are redoing your entire flat, not just a small portion. All I can say is WOW, what a huge undertaking. :yay"
When I've planned on moving, I've packed things in advance and although I didn't use a storage unit, I think the same concept I took for packing up my stuff may help you.
Everything was packed in easy to handle boxes that were numbered and I had a master cross reference list of what was in each. As others said, well labeled boxes are a key. Also, make sure you can lift and move the boxes yourself if you think you will need to get into any of them while they are in storage.
First I packed things I didn't use very often or were seasonal. These boxes were very distinct as to what was packed in them. For example, all kitchen, all bathroom, etc. Next I packed the things that I used but could temporarily live without. These were also packed by distinct function although I did allow some boxes to contain multiple functions to reduce the number of boxes. At this point, the items left were all the things I needed to function in my home. When it came time to move, I wasn't concerned about them being packed by function since I figured they would need to get unpacked quickly so I could function in my new home.
Also, when you put your boxes in storage, plan where to place them. Make sure to have easier access to the ones you think you will need.
Good luck with your renovation.
Take care

The stuff went into the storage place today. Boy, does the place look odd. Had a Russian friend make FRAGILE labels wrtten in Russian for the boxes - lots of the movers are Russians here.

Today the Ikea chap came to measure for the kitchen, the window man came to measure for the new windows, an appointment was made with the a/c people, and the rennovator told me I can tell them to deliver the tiles and the bathroom sink and w.c. I feel very proud of myself!
Thanks for all your suport!
