In the busy-ness of your weeks, running here and there, if you have kids at home, are you setting aside one night per week to spend the evening together?
Watch a movie....Play a game.
If you do this, how do you spend the time? Do you have some special activity ya'll save for this night?

Hi, Kathy!!! Love the site...
Well, we try to do a "family night" on Saturdays. My DH works 80+ hours a week, so that lets weeknights out. We usually order out and either play Uno or watch a movie (that we ALL have to agree upon). When it's movie night, we all pile into my bedroom (Mom & Dad on bed, kids on floor in sleeping bags) with our pizza. After about 1 hour, it's intermission time....more soft drinks, munchies, bathroom break. Then on to more movie!!! Sometimes, the kids have friends over and they participate as well. We have a blast! Of course, DH falls asleep before intermission. :D But the kids understand. I even caught them making bets as to the time he started to snore!!

When all my kids were home, we tried doing a game night where we would play a game or card game. Makes for fun conversation.
Now that there is one kid home, we have "family" time whenever which is usually several meals a week, watching a show, going some where. He is not involved in a whole lot of extra stuff which makes it easy.

When my kids were home Friday night was "pizza" night. We'd order pizza, put on our jammies and watch a couple of movies.

I'm the one in our house that works the long hard hours, so I have tried to make my family night sacred. On Friday nights, I insist I leave the office at a reasonable time and have time with my kids. Everyone gets on a bicycle and we ride up to the pizza parlor. Then on the trip back home we stop and get a movie from the video store. We pile pillows and futons all over the place and it is nothing but arms and legs all over the place. I think it is about half and half on who sends who to bed, me or the kids. :D

We do family night every week. It happens on either Friday or Saturday depending on which night we don't have anything with church going on. We usually grill and rent movies. The kids love this night and look forward to it all week. They get bent out of shape if for some reason we can't do it.

I'm a noncustodial mom so the weekends the kids come and spend with me are "family weekend". That's their time...our time. The beauty of it is that even though they're both teenagers with busy schedules of their own what with sports and dancing, etc...they make sure they get their weekends with their mom uninterrupted as much as possible and it doesn't matter what we're doing - going out, staying in, vegging out on the couch or playing a game, renting movies to watch or games to play (I play PS2 with my son a good bit) ... they're happy as long as they're with me. We try to make Saturday night "family dinner" night at the table ...and I actually cook instead of us grabbing something out...and it's great when we can do that because that's absolutely the best conversation ever.

We order a pizza on Friday nights and watch tv together as a family. If there is nothing on tv worth watching then we will go to blockbuster and let the kids pick out a movie. They love this night and look forward to it.

We have just made the decision to do a family night regularly. We have done them in the past periodically, but not anything that we scheduled ahead of time. We are trying to pick a time that will work for all of us. We play games, like UNO, or we watch a movie. We usually pray together....Whatever sounds fun. If we get a regular family night routine going, I would like to do more planned stuff, including devotions etc.
