I'm not too mezmerized by celebrities. But I've always been fascinated to hear other people's stories of meetings.

What about you? Have you met a celebrity?

Yes! I've met a few:

Tom Arnold (random, I know. I met him at Planet Hollywood!)
Mike Madonno (Dallas Stars hockey player)
Don Henley
Roy Williams & Retired Jay Novachek (Dallas Cowboys football players)
Michael W Smith
Lincoln Park (I'm in their live video riding with them on their golfcart!)

I think that is it for now!

I've met a few celebrities... well, at least they're famous in Canada :)

One of them was Joe Clark, a former Canadian Prime Minister: he is such an impressive man with a strong charisma. And it was a chance meeting: he was shopping in the same store we were shopping :)

I also met Marc Garneau, the first canadian in space. Another wonderful, wonderful personality. And very inspiring!!! He was a guest speaker at an employee recognition event!!!

I've also had chance meetings with movie and television stars and, working as I do in downtown Ottawa, with members of parliament.

A few years ago dh and I were invited to a celeb golf tourney in Arizona. I was shocked when I learned it was the Alice Cooper golf tournament. We had a blast. Most of the celebs were very nice, some were snooty, but most were nice.

We met and chatted with Alice Cooper, Lyle Waggoner, Eric Dickerson and Kevin Sabo. Lyle was soooo cool, a very nice man. Lyle posed for a pic with me and signed my picture. Dh golfed with Eric so signing my pic was no problem. Alice was very down to earth and signed. Kevin was a jerk and very snobbish, he only signed the picture because I was very persistant. :D Dh still laughs at how I made the rounds to get autographs.

We saw other celebs but didn't get to talk with them. We saw Leslie Nielsen and John O'Hurley (who was the mc for the show, VERY funny).

We had a great time during that weekend. Some of the celebs were so nice and others wouldn't give you the time of day.

Hmmm, if soccer players count, I've met some!

Of the ones I have met, Brian McBride has the best name recognition. I also met John Harkes and had him autograph his book as a birthday present for a daughter.

There are lesser-known ones, too, but the list is long and time is short, so I'll spare you. ;)

Many years ago, we were at an event where Red Skelton was the speaker. He told a story about how he didn't set out to be a clown, but he pursued what he loved: making people laugh. One day he looked around and realized that he was making a very good living at doing what he loved... that was the message he wanted to convey to his college-age audience.

Later, I was able to get his autograph. He was very gracious :)

So far only "local" celebs. I actually went to high school and graduated with one of the Indy meteorologists. But no one that anyone outside of central Indiana would recognize.

Okay, this is very local, and I hope won't offend, but I once saw a member of our Knesset (parliament) at the HMO clinic - he was holding a jar with fluid...

He really looked uncomfortable being proven what an ordinary Joe he was!

Kevin Costner - he owns a casino and restaurant in Deadwood. He was very nice.

I worked in a hotel and met a number when they stayed:
ZZ Top
Barry Manilo
Kenny Rogers
Tom Jones
Charlie Daniels

I met Tom Jones when he was wearing a short, little robe. I was pretty young and he was much older, but I was still impressed by his legs.

Charlie Daniels was about the nicest guy I have ever met. Very down to earth.

A good many years ago, I was in a Denny's when Johnny Cash came in. He was soooo nice, signed autographs for all of us.
I worked in a restaurant near Texas A&M and got to serve several celebrities. They include Wilson Picket ( his whole family ), Jerry Lee Lewis, and Barbara Mandral.
Waiting in the Las Angeles airport, we got to see a taping of the old sitcom "The Facts of Life". I used the potty next to "Mrs. Garrett". ;)
I also got to sit near the front of a Fats Domino performance - what an entertainer!

Ms BB, I would have loved to meet Red Skelton - he's still one of my favorites.

I've nursed a few people who are prominent people in this country (NZ) - politicians and local TV actors etc- but that just makes them big fish in a little pond.
There is such a cult of celebrity - people who just read the news are seen as soooo interesting. I think they are just doing a job and the familiarity of their face really means nothing.
People who have achieved something - now that's who I would like to meet.

Well let me see...I have met a few.

When I was little I met Dolly Partin and Willy Nelson. When I worked as a security supervisor at DFW I ran into, literally, Emmit Smith. And at the same job I talked to LeAnn Rhimes for about 10 minutes. I also grew up about 45 minutes from where Tommy Lee Joneses mother lives, well I am not sure if she is still around, but my sister used to wait on her at a dress shop in town.

I rode in a van with three of the Detroit Red Wings a few years back. I met Dickie Smothers. Saw Samuel Jackson get his star on the Walk of Fame where Dustin Hoffman was a presenter.

Very exciting stuff, eh?

My husband plays in a country band so we've met several country singers:

Vince Gill*
Susie Boggus*
Garth Brooks
Willie Nelson*
Emmy Lou Harris
Reba McIntyre
Toby Keith*
Ty England*
Ricky Skaggs*
*these are the ones my husband has played with.

I also met Ryan Merriman at Target. He's the kid who played in Deep End of the Ocean, The Ring 2, Final Destination 3, and many Disney movies like Smart House and Luck of the Irish. He's a really sweet down-to-earth guy. He lives here in Oklahoma and he mows lawns in the summer when he's not working on a movie. He said he knows acting won't last forever. I thought that was such a smart and NORMAL thing to hear coming from an actor.

In 1980, I attend a concert in Minneapolis performed by rock-punk recording artist, Iggy Pop, and I ended up at the same late-night, after-concert party as he did. He was very full of himself and obnoxious, in my opinion. As I recall, everyone at the party was pretty much ignoring him no matter how much attention he attempted to draw to himself.

My favorite celebrity I have ever met was former California governor, Jerry Brown, when he visited Minneapolis in the fall of 1992 while he was campaigning for US President. My husband was one of his campaign volunteers to I got to meet him. He was (is) so handsome and charismatic.

Couple of bigger names who I just happened to run into:

Ernie Borgnine in the airport in Madrid in the '70s. Got his autograph.

Muhammad Ali in downtown Chicago. I had left work and was walking to the train station. Noticed a crowd along the street. Pushed my way in. Ali was sitting in a car parked at the curb. Spoke with him briefly and got his autograph. This was also in the '70s.

Yes, ma'am. I met country stars Travis Tritt and Barbra Mandrell's sister (who's name escapes me right now) and shook their hands. They were in Vancouver BC Canada for a telethon and I was answering phones for PBS in a hotel lobby and they came by and shook our hands. I was sooooooo nervous and they were such pretty people.

I certainly think so! She can be hard to track down!
A former schoolmate of mine is often the body underneath Goofy or a Power Ranger at Disney World.

I have met a few celebs, but it was a long time ago.

I met Jack palance when I was 17. The Broken Arrow marchig band was choosen to be in Clinton's first inaugural parade, and we went to the capitol building, which is where I met Jack palance. He was really nice.

Then about 9 yrs ago my mom and I met all of the Neville Brothersand their band, :band: the most famous of which is Aaron Neville. I thought that Charles was the nicest, followed closely by Art. I actually got to meet Charles Neville 2 different times at 2 different concerts here in Tulsa. He remembered me the second time I met him from the first time. How cool is that? :cheerlead
