Survivor started a new season tonight and it was good, I thought! I liked the 4 tribes instead of 2. I liked the age - gender group idea. I like the Exiled island twist.

Anyone else join me?

I'm a loud & proud Survivor Fan!! I really liked it tonight. This seems like it will be a good season. I did not agree with who they voted off though...

I think that the new twist is good. They needed something to keep people watching. My bf brought up a good point tonight. He said its more like a social experiment which makes sense. I think the older men are going to do pretty well. The older women surprised me in the challenge, I really thought the younger men were going ot lose, but the team work wasn't there for the women. Im not sure who it was, but right as the show started someone defined the groups as the Beefcakes, the Loveboats, the Golden Girls, and the Spice GIrls. I really think that would be good names instead of young and old!

I didn' t like who they voted off either. I would have kept her around to keep the fire going!

I felt badly for the gal who was exiled the very first night! I imagined having to do that and I think I would have spent the whole time looking for the idol and crying like a baby. :bigcry:

I've been thinking about the show last night, talking to others who saw it...and thought it hilarious that the different groups handled life in their new surroundings so differently.

The Spice girls wandered around, undecisive about where to set up camp. They looked like a group of teens on a trip to the mall and couldn't decide which food court to settle in...

The Beefcakes did weird things! One guy had the wise idea to use meditation to start a fire. And the other guys went along with him! They stacked their hands, without touching, and meditated on fired. Did they make fire...?

The Golden Girls got things done.

The older men...handled things the best in my opinion. I'm cheering for them so far...except for the whiney guy that misses his smokes.

I can not believe they voted the one person who will get things done . And Kept the one who is scared of LEAVES.... Come on now. They will lose the next chanllenge for sure now... I think they are combining tribes next week however

I was really shocked at who they voted off. I don't think the older women are going to do very well. The one was afraid of the leaves! Than again, we only see what the producers want us to see. But I am still shocked that they voted off someone who could show them the way to survive (and who could chop lots of firewood  )

I do think I know what they were thinking, they didn't vote off the weakest link, but the strongest, which in the beginning is an unusual strategy.

I like the older guys group...well two of them: the astronaut and the ex-military pilot. :D I love men in uniform. ;)

Whew! I am glad to see I am not the only one in this category. I think Tina was going to be a tough competitor, which might be why they voted her off early. I don't think it was a good strategy this early.

I like the new names for the tribes. Are the older guys the Loveboats? I think they are going to do really well. Especially if they get rid of the smoker. He has issues! Who would try out for this show and not stop smoking beforehand? Or learn to make fire????

This will be fun!!!!

I was surprised that they went to two tribes already. I thought the new format might last a little longer. And what is with who they vote off each week? Shane should have gone home. I bet they regret that move. I already like the other tribe a little better. I think it is one of the older guys that might win if they can just avoid the vote because they are a challenge. Any one else's thoughts?

Yeh, I really liked the four group concept, and would have liked to seen them work together a little bit longer. I was surprised that they merged teams this early. Exile Island is going to make this very interesting-kind of like a wild card. It could be to a player's advantage to be on Exile island. I agree Shane should have gone last night. They established alliances a little too soon, and didn't leave themselves enough options. I think it will stay interesting with lots of twists and turns as the season moves on.

Another shocker last night. I can't believe that they actually told them they were going to vote one or the other off! :stomp: What were they thinking? So far, I think some of these people are being really stupid. :duh: I don't have any faves yet, only ones I dislike. I haven't seen enough of everyone to pick my faves.

Well since its down to 2 tribes... it seems to be very obvious which one has an upper hand. The older smarter people vs. the "different" whiney people!! I wish that the Asian man (sorry don't know his name) would have gone with the other team because he is such a hard worker! Oh well.. it will be interesting!!

I didn't see the first week because I was in the hospital after having my hysterectomy but I did get to watch last night. That Shane guy seems pretty crazy. I agree, what was he thinking he would do for cigarettes on the island? He caused a lot of hard feelings last night and I wouldn't be surprised if he is gone soon. It was nice that he missed his son but he should have thought of that too. Seems like he just does whatever he wants that moment and doesn't think about it.
It's too early for me to have a favorite, but I do wish the women would wear more modest bathing suits or tops. When it''s spilling out I don't think that is attractive. Maybe I'm jealous.

After watching last night, I think most of these people are acting like they have never seen the show before. I really wanted them to stay as 4 tribes at least another week, I think it would have been interesting seeing the older women fend for themselves after voting out the one person who knew what she was doing! I agree with the Shane thing..."What was he thinking?" Why would you try to quit smoking under those cicumstances? He will keep things interesting with his mood swings :) .

I think the directors/producers partly picked Shane because of the cigs. They knew he would be going through a "detox" which leads to confrontations which in turn gives ratings!! Just my opinion!!

You are probably right Jessica. There has to be some controversy or we would get bored watching it.

I see that Shane dodged a bullet. What a whiner!

I was okay with who got voted off. I think she was planning to sleep her way to the top. I was worried about the alliances that were starting to form. Dan and Terry are my favs to win, but I can see them being a threat and getting voted off.

What do the rest of you think about Misty being gone?

Poor Bruce! He seems to have a bit of an ego though. It will be interesting to see this season unfold. I wish that they had stuck with the 4 team concept longer - less chance of people "flying under the radar" that way.

I can't stand Shane - I don't know they just didn't vote him off when he wanted to leave.

Cirie may be one to watch out for - she really held her own in the bag challenge.

I think Shane is the token controversial one. They always have to have somebody causing conflict or it would be boring. He'll probably be around for a few more shows until we get to know the other people better. I didn't care about Misty one way or the other but she seemed pretty sure of herself and the massages were so obvious. I think she outsmarted herself. She should have laid low until she could show more value to the team.

I really, really, really, really want Shane to go bye bye! He grosses me out....he reminds me of Tommy Lee!
