Yesterday was my one-year hysterversary. I avoided the doctor for several years because I knew that was going to be what he wanted to do. I was afraid, so I suffered through horrible periods every month. Finally, I was so anemic, there was no choice. I was one of the lucky ones that had very few problems. I did try to go back to work too soon and spiked a fever, but otherwise everything was great. Now a year out, I am healthy, happy, and have no periods. :queen:
I came to this site via the hystersister site. I owe the women on that site so much for helping me through!!!!

Cheryl and Cynthia,
Hang in there. You may find you have some good days and some bad ones, but I love my life without having to change a tampon AND a pad every hour! I hope you are feeling great soon!

Thanks Sherry...
I want to get out and do like I was doing but I read where even though on the outside my healing is great- there is still alot of internal healing to be done...
Thanks again...

I had a hysterectomy in 1978 and never regret it. I kept my ovaries and did not need hormonal treatment. I too came to this site through hystersister. Two years ago I had a big scare. I had an MRI done for back pain and it revealed a huge mass on my ovaries. I was very lucky. They removed 3 big tumors but thankgoodness they were benign. Surgery went well and I recovered quicker then expected.

Hi everyone!
I too had a hyster. I had to have it done when I was 27yrs old (am 29 now). I really feel great. I was lucky to have my girls early on in life. Hystersisters really were so wonderful to me also.

I came here from HS too - I had mine February 28, 2002, so it's been almost 4 years, and it was one of the best things I've done. I had a TAH, kept my ovaries, no hormonal treatment, no problems at all. It's been wonderful. But I second what the others said - TAKE IT EASY! It's so easy to overdo it and go backwards in your recovery. I vacuumed too soon - didn't believe the warnings I had about that straining abdominal muscles, but they were right. Take it slow, it will heal with time, and you'll feel all better after a while.

I came from HS too!! My ID there was Mikaela and my Hyster was Nov 2004. That site is awesome and it answered so many questions and the support was outta this world. I just refered a friend of mine there as she had a Hyster Jan 24th.
I had my LAVH & BSO on November 23, 2005. I am now 10 weeks post-op & also a member on Hystersisters! I'm happy they opened this site as well! :D

Sounds like there are many of us that are comming over from the Hystersister site. My hysterversary will be March 1. One whole year. I had a fairly easy recovery, I just didn't expect it to take so long, 6 months before i felt half way normal. I think this site will be fun. Now that I am feeling better I hope to work on losing some weight and on some financial goals. (still paying off the suregery bills!!)

Hi chickadee.. I remember seeing your ID on Hystersisters!! This kinda like a high school reunion isn't it? I should have just used the name Mikaela here like I did there so people might recognize me.

I also had a TAH (everything out). I had 2 huge tumors. Hystersisters was WONDERFUL!! It will be 6 years in April. I was taking Premarin until I read (on the internet) that it may cause breast cancer so I discontinued it. Other than that, the hyster was the best thing I could have done!

Didn't they tell you not to lift ANYTHING for at least 6 weeks ? They did not let me drive for about 2 weeks. :D And they told me to take it easy for that time. My warning sign was back pain.

I had my hysterectomy in 2002 and after a difficult recovery ( tried to do too much too fast) I can honestly say it was the best thing I could have ever done! I kept my ovaries and have had no problems except some pain due to scar tissue around one ovary.
I would say take as much time as YOU feel YOU need. Don't be rushed into doing things too quickly, you know your body best and you know at what rate you should attempt doing things. You will only set your recovery back if you do too much at once!

I had my hysterectomy (SAH kept ovaries as I'm only 35) on 13th January, and at 3 weeks post op am still struggling with swelly belly and mood swings, BUT none of this is as bad as the pain/very heavy bleeding I went through because of adenomyosis, endometriosis and Asherman's syndrome!
Thank God for surgery, and here's to a wonderful pain free, mess free future!
Go girls!

I had HS in 2002 also. But had to go back into the hospital after a month because of a staph infection. I was very sick for a long time.
I won't have another surgery ever. I hope.

I had my hysterectomy in October '05. Finding Hystersisters changed my life - literally! I cannot tell you how much support and comfort I have been given during my last year fighting ovarian cancer. It was a blessing when I came across the site on my search engine. I was feeling so alone because I was so young and scared because of the cancer...but no more! :queen: I cannot thank Kathy enough for creating such a wonderful resource!

Hello! I came over from HS too. Had my hysterectomy in January of 2004. Not sure about all the initials...but I had everything out, as I had already apparently (without my knowledge!!!) gone through menopause, so didn't need any of it anymore!!! No problems, but was surprised how tired I got after surgery. Feeling just fine and dandy now, and love not having all those problems anymore. Thrilled to find this site!!!

I am a HS referral too-I told my Dr's office about the site when a total was recommended to me-and they started referrring all their patients there! That is why I had so few questions in their office-they had mostlly been answered on the board. I had a football sized non cancerous tumor-wish I had the hyster years before! Iam 2yrs old-hysterectomy speaking! I am more energetic than years ago!

i come to this site through hystersisters also, they helped me a great deal , i am a year and a half out but still having lots of trouble, i feel like my bladder is laying on my back bone or something, and using the restroom is pure torture, i lost my insurance so i am unable to go back to the dr, does anyone else have problems similiar to mine, thanks in advance and i hope someone can help tell me what might be happening

gezz, you should really see a doctor. This is not normal. Right after the hysterectomy my bladder was inflamed/irritated. Dr told me it is because they worked very close to it. He prescribed some pills (don't remember if it was antibiotic or not, too long a time) and it was fine.

And it was so much easier thanks to Hystersisters...except for the laughing, it hurt to laugh too hard.
I feel great after mine..I have had so much energy. I'm still playing around with the HRT. UGH...breakouts worse than a teenager vs. hot flashes...hmmm...the jury is stilll out on that one...I'm sure I'll find a happy medium soon. It's not too much of a bother right now.
It's definitely the best decision I made for myself..

I am excited to see so many of us here from the HysterSister site. I am grateful to have another place to migrate to. We are so lucky!
I have been a member here since Saturday and I am totally addicted! I love how supportive women can be for each other!
Just joined this site also from hystersisters. Today is my 5 year anniversary of my hysterectomy. (had a TAH incl ovaries). No regrets since! Hystersisters is a gem of a site and is such a great support for gals both pre and post surgery, as well as those who are considering, but unsure.
This seems like it will be a good site-we all can benefit from helpful support and dialogues about life in general!

I actually still have them to this day but not too many. I just live in the fridge ! heh, heh. Hugs all around and be well, Jan

It is 3 years since my surgery to remove my ovaries and 11 since my partial hyster. I had a rough time right after surgery but am doing so much better now. I did suffer alot of bone loss so don't forget to get your dextra scans as most bone loss occurs in the first 5 years. I am now doing weight training which builds strong bones plus taking extra calcium.
The best part is no periods. Never missed that at all.

Also here from HS...I'm "Icantthinkofone" on there - simply because when I was signing up there was this suggestion that the username should be something different from other usernames we might have on other sites, and I just couldn't think of one. So, "I cant think of one" became my name. A week out, still laid up, tried to return to work from my bed (I telecommute now) yesterday but couldn't make it through today so I'm on "borrowed" PTO to get through the weekend. I have no choice but to start back on Monday though. Can't afford to go broke.
Soooo...hi !!! :D

Babs,
You are one week from your surgery and you are going back next week???? I was home for four weeks and I was back too soon. I ended up out for another three days when I spiked a fever. Tell me you had much less surgery than I did, or I will worry about you all weekend!

Well yeah but from my bed. I figure if I can use a laptop and a phone, I can work. I did yesterday but had issues with the fax machine and it took about an hour of my standing there nursing the thing trying to get my discharge instructions with limitations sent to my manager so I think that's why I had trouble today. And I'm just taking off through the weekend now. Actually I don't have any choice. I can't go without a paycheck.

Also from HS...had TAH at 28 in '90. Don't miss the heavy, painful periods and numerouse laps. & D&C's. But the sex drive went....and I mean went; never to be found again. And yes I have tried Estrotest, creams etc. Currently off hormones after so long & found that the anti-depressent Lexapro I take ended up stopping hot flashes.

I celebrated my one year Hysterversary back on January 19th. I also found my way here from the HysterSisters website. Thank goodness for all the wonderful ladies over there--getting to my hysterectomy and recovering from it are not events I'd have wanted to go through without them.
For the record, I had a TAH/LSO. Kept my right ovary and with the exception of occasional uncomfortable months (the bugger takes a lickin and keeps ovulating, LOL) feel wonderful.
I haven't missed my period AT ALL!
Ironically enough, the company I work for now supplies "product" for free in the ladies' rooms. I just walk on by and smile to myself. :)
Ladies who've just become Princesses...I'll second and third and fourth what everyone has said about taking it easy and not doing too much too soon. Listen to your body. You've had major surgery and you do NOT want to mess up the healing process.
I'll send lots of feel better soon and heal up nicely vibes to all of you, okay?
:celebrate <---those are vibes comin' atcha!

I too came here from the hystersister site. I had my hysterectomy March 3,2003 so its almost been three years. I had a total hyst. Everything came out. I have been on hormone replacements....little tricky to find right combo. But my life has been soo good. My advice is REST REST REST for while. Take it easy....time will pass and you WILL feel good again. My real challenge has been weight gain, which I deal with and am losing some now...but its a good trade versus the pain and chance of dying. I am grateful to be alive and feel so darn good now....so I can enjoy my life.

Hello!
I also came here from the Hystersister site. I had a TVH almost two years ago. I did keep my ovaries (so does that make it a partial?) I think I am starting to go into menopause though. In the past 6 months, I've gained 30lbs and I've been very lethargic, hot flashy and non-sexual. I have an appt. on March 13 with my Dr. to discuss. I'm so happy about the outcome of my hysterectomy just not the long term results. I'm hoping to get things straightened out again.
Glad to be here!

I had a TAH slightly over 3 years ago, and I also found my way over here from HS. I have to agree with the others and take advantage of this time and REST, REST, REST. We spend a lot of our time taking care of others, and handling household issues. Now is time for you to lay back and let others take care of you. I took 6 weeks off and wish I would have taken a couple of more-I had the time. I take Premarin to deal with hot flashes, but will probably change to a Bone medicine this next check-up.
By the way I love this site. So many wonderful topics

Hello!
I also came here from the Hystersisters site. I had my hysterectomy 2 years ago this July
I had removed my womb, cervix, left ovary & tube, and half my right ovary
I was awake for the whole surgery as i had an epidural in my spine due to me being asthmatic
Even though i was scared to death at the thought of being awake while the cut me open it was a wonderful but weired feeling
I was cut in my bikini line where i had had my 1st Cesarean section in 1983 when my 1st child was born
The dr was polite and kept talking to me and asking me was i ok
They played music of my choice :)
It was the best operation i had ever undergone as it was the 1st one done awake
No sickness after coming round from the anaesthetic and bad chest coughing up gunk because i had no anaesthetic only pure oxygen to breath through a mask
The operation went all according to plan no complications at all and was back up the ward 2 & a half hours after in my bed
I has a small blood transfusion only 2 bags
I was recovering well and was supose to go home 3 days after the operation
But i suddenly started to get a temperature and feel sick
I put it down to the fact that i hadn't opend my bowels since the morning of the operation so my gynie dr arranged for me to have something to open them
But sadly it didnt work so next day i ended up with suppositories *yuck!*
They did the trick but i was violently sick afterwards and my temperature started to clime sharply and my stomach looked like i was 6 to 8 months pregnant and rock hard
They tried to do a scan at my bedside but i had to much swelling it wasn't strong enough to see through it all
So i was put on an iv and not allowed to eat anything and only allowed sips of water
Next morning i was taken down on my bed to the xray department to have an external and internal scan
The external one was so painful it made me sick
6pm that night i was rushed back to theatre and this time put to sleep
As i went under the anaesthetic i started fitting with the hight of my temperature because it was going over 44
They had to make new incisions to see what was wrong
I had a huge poisonous abscess the size of a baby's head 37 cms sitting where in my pelvis where my womb and cervix had sat 6 days before
They drained it and the poison was vile it smelt nasty as it was a mixture of stale blood and poison
The operation lasted 2 hours and i lost loads of blood and ended up with another blood transfusion this time 4 bags
I awoke and was instantly sick as i am allergic to gas and air and they give you that to keep you asleep during the operation
I awoke to find an iv in 1 hand for the blood transfusion, an iv in the other hand for them to feed me and a drain coming out my stomach into a bottle with not very nice stuff in
My temperature had gone down slightly but not much
I had to have antibiotics in the iv every 6 hours and slowly my temperature started to drop
What was supose to be a routine stay in hospital for 4 days ended up being a stay for 14 days and not routine
2 days before i came out of hospital i was told that my nan had been found dead in her doorway
So a few days after i finally got out of hospital i travelled over 360 miles by car to attend her funeral
Now i am left with a weak bladder, problems with my bowels and every morning i have sickness like morning sickness when i was pregnant
Its like my body thinks that because i no longer have periods i must be pregnant :p
But on looking back if i had to have it done now knowing that i would still have it done as without i was getting weaker with every period due to the fibroids and heavy bleeding problems
I used to have to wear either maternity pads or 2 night time pads together it was so bad

HI,
I had a total abdominal hysterectomy on March 17, 2003. Although I was relatively young, It was the best thing for me as I had many medical issues. I feel absolutely wonderful. even though I couldn't have any biological children. I was blessed with a 2 year old son thru the blessing of adoption on May 2, 2005.
I found great support and love thru the hystersister site and I have moved here to GGG with the invite from Kathy. Hoping to make some online friends.

I came her from Hyster Sisters also. I had a hysterectomy a year last October. I feel great. I take a hormone once a day and will try to get off this summer sometime. When I do try to get off I get weepy and hot flashes. Not good for me right now. But other than that I feel fine.

I too came here thru Hystersisters, Had had 6.6 cm ovarian cyst removed abdominally in July 2004, bad GYN and Internest didn't relate chronic illeness to a bigger problem. Can't figure out how Gyn didn't see the enodmetriosis when she did ofarectomy.
I was an endometrila mess, Attached to bowel and intestinal track, and who knows what else. Still ill so got new docs and decided to have TAH Feb 19, 2005 - tomorrow is 1 year. Physically better than I have been in a long time not fabulous but getting there. HRT has worked, get like this :moods::bigcry:without them.
I loved the fabulous info, knowing that I was feeling exactly what I was supposed to at each phase. And the stories, laughed myself silly. :D

I also came from HS site. Had a TAH and BSO on Jan 34-so I am about 3 1/2 weeks out and found a lot of really big help over there at HS! Still getting tired and bored...It is a red letter day when I actually get to get out of the house!
I am not sure if I am looking forward to going back to work, though!
You know, the biggest thing that I have learned through this experience is that it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
Right now, I haven't had many issues. I cannot take HRT as I am also a breast cancer survivor. The only problem I am having is being able to sleep. I only go about an hour or so then wake up for a couple of hours then sleep for an hour...this goes on all night. I am not sleeping or napping during the day, so I just don't know what to do--any suggestions?

Cheryl and Cynthia, I hope everything works out for you both. Don't rush the healing process. I had a Hysterectomy July of last year due to Ovarian Cancer. I am a single Mom that works a full time job and 3 part time jobs. Needless to say I pushed myself not allowing enough time to heal on the inside. I have ripped open the incision twice. The first time was just doing house work (two weeks after surgery). The second time was in December lifting on kegs of beer at work. I was told because I had ripped it open before it weakens that spot. So I had to heal all over again. So far so good. And I am six months Cancer Free!

I too went through the not sleeping thing . It does get better. But I went back to the doctors and had them put me on lunesta. I was on it a total of 24 days. Since then I sleep much better. I will say every now and then I have a night I wake up and can't get back to sleep but it is due to night sweats.

I went through that too and probably around the same time frame you are now. I tried herbal teas. I also remember getting up and reading stuff on HS instead of laying there getting frustrated and angry. That seemed to help, nothing worse than trying to force yourself asleep. OHHHH i would be so frustrated... being awake still when my DH got home from working an all night shift. Things did get back to normal and I know a lotta girls that went through the same thing.. so it must be normal.. Whatever normal is!

I had a hysterectomy in March 2003 (kept my ovaries). I have to say that life is GRAND without a uterus. Wish I had done it years sooner. No more cramps, no more pads, what a blessing. My heart goes out to those I see with a heating pad every month. I had to go to the store to pick some pads up to keep at work for my staff and I felt like a man must feel - so many colors, absorbancies, scents - I was so confused. ha ha

Wow, that's a lot of us from the Hystersisters Site. Now I'm convinced that the GirlsGetGoing will mean just as much to me as Hystersisters. My hysto was in 2001, I had a complete. No hormones for me. The transition brought lots of hot, hot flashes. It's now a joke with most everyone I know. BUT, the good news is, that after four years they are pretty much gone. I also gained 30 lbs. Weight watchers and an excercise program has improved that but was a lot of work. I am also a breast cancer survivor, since 1997, there seem to be lots of members here who have traveled down that road also. I know those common bonds are strong and its great to be here with all of you.

It IS good to see so many hystersisters here. I think this site proves there is life after that. I needed to move on. My hysterectomy was successful and the HysterSister site was invaluable. Now I am healthy and happy and glad to have more going on than the issues that led me to surgery!
Once again, thank you Kathy!

I had my hysterectomy a few years ago myself and I credit hystersisters with every bit of good to it because I came thru it with flying colors! The good Lord, the dr's and the ladies there were a blessing to me so much!
it was the very best thing I ever did for myself.
God bless,

Hi Everyone,
I also found this site through Hystersister.com. I found Hystersisters on Thursday, the day after I found out that I needed a TAH/BSO. The site has been a god send. I would like to receive feedback from ladies that have had the same surgery, what to expect, pain levels  , hrt, etc. Really glad I found this site.
Hi Bella,
I had a hysterectomy 16 months ago. I just had my uterus removed due to those nasty little cells that wouldn't go away. I still have my ovaries and I take estrodial for a hormone. I have been on a hormone for 5 years due to early menopause and have never had any trouble with it. If I don't take it every day or forget to take it I can tell. I get hot flashes but the worst is te weepies I call them. Cry over everything. Then my dh asks me if I remembered to take my hormoney pill he calls it. He doesn't let me forget too often because I can also get to be really grouchy.
I recovered pretty well from my surgery and am doing great. I had pain but it didn't last too long and only get it if I overdue but it goes away quick. You'll do fine.
Oh and Bella,
Get a heating pad. It will be your best friend................!

Hystersisters here too...... :-)
I will be one year in April. Had a total hysterectomy and the hot flashes are the worst but other than that I feel great!
Now if I can lose some of that weight that I have gained since the surgery.....

I'm another one from the hystersister website (in fact, I am a chat team alum)...June 2001 was when I had my hysterectomy. I'm also one of the lucky ones that didn't have any problems after surgery, but before I had it, I went thru an extremely difficult time!! I tease my friends who still still have periods and tell them I only have "commas" now...when I pause to remember having periods!! LOL :) Best wishes to all you new princesses and remember, the key to recovery is taking it slow, getting plenty of rest and listening to your doctor!! If you do all that, you'll be just fine!!

One of the worst problems I had after the surgery was constipation.Your bowels do a lot of moving around after surgery with all the extra room.My best advice is not to just sit around, take a little walk everyday as soon as you get home.I work as a nurse and I took the whole six weeks off to recuperate.Sine I am not anemic anymore I have so musch more enrgy. Good luck.I do not regret my decision to have surgery at all.

...apart from the odd twinge, and a sore back if I overdo things, I'm pretty much back to my usual self.
The main thing I'm struggling with is tiredness, though how much of that is due to the surgery, or due to raising four kids (three very lively boys!) I'm not sure :p
I've felt a bit 'PMS-like' at times, but no worse that that on the hormones front. I've got more zits than my 14 year old though, and really hope that settles soon!
At no point have I been in as much pain than I was from the endometriosis and adenomyosis I had before the surgery, and it is so nice to be able to leave the house knowing that I am not going to bleed through my clothes!
The hystersisters site is wonderful, and has helped me so much.
I hope all goes well.

I am 4 weeks post surgery today, and I am feeling SOOOO much better. In fact, if it wasn't for getting tired kinda easy, you would think that everything was normal...
I was lucky and had no problems with the surgery. The pain kind of dropped off after about 4 days and I was able to stop taking the pain killers and moved over to Advil--when that happens you feel less groggy.
I also had the problem with the bowel, but 4 days out my doctor had me take a stool softner and between that and walking around did the trick.
I would suggest moving around afterwards a little at a time, you will feel better. Just remember not to overdo and let others do for you!
Good luck with your procedure. :queen:

I am also here through hystersisters, had total as in everything gone hyster five years due to a large fibroid. Because of the size dr had to make large incison and he insisted on taking ovaries because of my age. So I would not have the threat of ovarion cancer. And if is nice not to worry about that. But, Because of both I really feel that my sex drive has greatly decreased. Other than that, I feel great and don't miss the monthly issue at all. But I feel it necessary to let all women know that when the muscle is cut as mine was it totally affects your sex drive and the medical profession does NOT tell you this. This is my first post and I wish you all the very best of luck! Patty.

Hi ladies, I'm going to ask of you a big, huge, larger than life favor.
Please take hysterectomy discussions to hystersisters.com. The last thing I want is for GGG to be viewed by women with uteruses as an extension of hystersisters.com...where they feel uncomfortable because of all the hyst talk.
Can you help me with this? I'd like GGG women of all ages to enjoy being here and this will be a great help to me.
Thanks for understanding. Big ((( hugs ))) and ((( smoochies ))) for referring to hystersisters.com as "another website" and talking hysterectomies over there. ;)
