I have so many favorites that I could not even name them but How Great Thou Art reminds me how big God is and what He can do.
The God On The Mountain helps me to remember that the God that is there for the good times is the same one there during the rough times.

Ohh! I have several favorites...But I'll just mention two:

Great is thy Faithfulness is awesome! He never changes..His compassions never fail, morning by morning new mercies I see....

and "Wonderful Grace of Jesus" which is an oldie...but I love it. Great words, fun tune with moving parts for a congregation that knows the parts!

I have many that I love but if I have to choose "Just a Closer Walk", reminds me that God is always with me. "His Eyes is on the Sparrow", lets me know that my Lord is watching over me and He will keeps me safe. One more," Rough Side of the Mountain", it is inspiration because it about going through rough times on the road to Heaven.

:hug:s God bless

Thanks Kathy! That was beautiful!!!!

I love so many old hyms, but a couple of my favorites are: "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Amazing Grace". I just never tire of listening to either of these and they never fail to make me sing along.

I always get an extra-special lift when our praise band does "Light of the World." :)

I have to pick just one?

There are two that I am thinking of now.

Just As I Am Wtihout One Plea - talks about our poor miserable broken unworthy condition that is made perfect to God by Jesus

Dear Christians, One and All - how God frees us through Jesus.

I don't explain them well enough, but these are two that I like

My all time favorite is How Great Thou Art . Amazing Grace is on my top list too. I love hymns because they remind me of God's love for us and why we're here

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

I think knowing the story behind the song makes me love it even more. Here is the story:

This hymn was written after two major traumas in Spafford’s life. The first was the great Chic*go Fire of October 1871, which ruined him financially (he had been a wealthy businessman). Shortly after, while crossing the Atlantic, all four of Spafford’s daughters died in a collision with another ship. Spafford’s wife Anna survived and sent him the now famous telegram, “Saved alone.” Several weeks later, as Spafford’s own ship passed near the spot where his daughters died, the Holy Spirit inspired these words. They speak to the eternal hope that all believers have, no matter what pain and grief befall them on earth.

Thanks Kate,
I was trying to think of that one too. Did not know the story behind it though. This fall, we met the man who wrote the arrangement of this hymn that was played at the memorial service of the Columbia astronauts and at Pres. Reagan's burial service. It is a beautiful arrangement.

"Here is Love" is one of my favorites. Go to the link I mention below and you can view the lyrics. I especially love the second verse, and when I hear this song I can't help feeling bathed in God's love.

This is a website that I like which contains hundreds of Christian hymns. Click the first letter in the title of your song, and you'll see the lyrics to the song with the music playing in the background. Above the song is the name of the person who wrote the lyrics, the person who wrote the music, and in many cases a brief history of events which inspired the lyrics. Here's the link to the website:

Jane, click here for the information on your favorite hymn, Just As I Am.

Because He Lives is one of my most favorite songs, it takes me to a troublesome time in my life, this song was sung that night at church and it gave me a peace that only God can give. It is very special to me.

I love so many hymns that it is hard to just name one. But right now, I have Standing on the Promises going through my head so I will have to say that one. It's wonderful to know that we have His promises to stand on. He will keep them there and never take them away.

I love so many that have been mentioned, but have to add Fairest Lord Jesus to the list here. I have loved it since I was a little girl. There is nothing like a congregation singing hymns in harmony-feels like heaven.

Kathy I LOVE the Wonderful Grace of Jesus!! We just did it a few weeks ago here. I am in choir and also do special music a lot in our church so I could not chose a favorite. Right now How Great THou Art is in my head as well as "Hold On" which is a song by Selah.

I, too, love It is well with My Soul.
At times, I feels so overwhelmed and at the end of my rope. And the words sorta calm and soothe me, and I know it's all okay and all is well.
A long time ago, I read a book called Beyond Gates of Splendor. I heard they did a movie about it, End of the Spear? Anyway, I remember in the book, when they buried the missionaries that were killed, the widows and family that were at the funeral sang that song. I read that book when I was a newborn baby christian, and it was such an inspiration to me and I've always loved that song ever since!!
