OK, ladies -- what's your best "festive" jello idea?
I usually make "sparkle" Jello (which you can do with any variety) -- orange for Thanksgiving and red for Christmas. Then I top it with real whipped cream and sprinkle on a little of the coarse, colored sugar because it sparkles, too!
Here's how I put some "sparkle" in my Jello.... note that this makes a little "less" jello than the usual recipe -- but I think sparkling jello tastes better if it's a little firmer. Also, make sure you make the jello in a rather large bowl -- it will fizz up quite a bit when you add the sparkling water.
2 packages Jello -- any flavor
1 cup boiling water
20 oz. chilled 7-up or ginger ale (diet or regular) or sparkling water
Dissolve the jello with the boiling water for at least 2 minutes. Slowly add the chilled 7-up and stir gently. Refrigerate for 1/2 hour, and then stir gently once more. Allow to set up completely -- the usual 4 hours or more.
This just gives the Jello a little more "punch". It's also great for when you're on a clear diet.

This is my kids favorite recipe including JELLO.
(I like it because it is so simple)
ORANGE SALAD
1 sm pkg orange jello
1 lg cool whip
1 lg cottage cheese (small curd)
1 can pineapple tidbits
1 can manderine oranges
Combine all ingredients in large bowl. Stir until well mixed.
Refridgerate until time to serve. (Best if made alittle before time to serve to let flavors have time to mix.)
Happy Cooking!

This is my daughters favorite holiday salad -- but we leave out the pineapple
Pretzel Jello may not be the most festive looking but it is yummy.
Anyone have a receipe? Mine got lost several moves ago.

I looked and found several recipes but this one looks like the one I know:
PRETZEL JELLO DESSERT
2 c. crushed pretzels (sticks)
3/4 c. melted butter
3 tbsp. sugar
Mix together - press into 9 x 13 inch pan or dish. Bake at 400 degrees for 8 minutes. Let cool.
1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
20 oz. frozen or fresh strawberries
1 med. Cool Whip
1 c. sugar
1 lg. pkg. strawberry Jello
Mix together Jello with water. Add strawberries, let set 10 minutes. Beat together cream cheese and sugar. Then beat in Cool Whip. Spread over pretzel crust. Then add Jello over top. Chill until set.
Thanks Green Beans.
I don't remember the strawberries being in it, but it looks about familiar otherwise.

Those all sound yummy :yum:
One of my favorite jello recipes is my MIL's. It's a holiday must here :)
Orange Salad
I pkg orange jello
I pkg lemon jello
2 c. boiling water
1 small can mandarin orange slices with juice
1 6 oz can frozen orange juice
1/2 c. chopped pecans
Disslove the jello in ther boiling water.Add the rest of the ingredients. Stir well. Put in the mold of choice and chill until firm. Unmold onto a plate of lettuce.
This is the best! My SIL doesn't usually like jello & he can eat almost a whole recipe by himself ( well - he is a big boy :D )

Oh, that mandarin orange one looks yummy!
Here's one of my mom's old favorites. I think we had this almost every Christmas when we grew up, and it's almost rich enough to serve as a dessert! It's one of those salads which doesn't seem as easy as it is.
Cherry Blossom Salad
1 6-oz package black cherry Jello
2 16-oz. cans Bing cherries, pitted
2 cups sour cream
1/2 cup slivered almonds.
Drain cherries, reserving juice. Add enough water to the juice to make two cups and heat to boiling. Dissolve Jello in boiling juice mixture. Add sourt cream and stir until all of the lumps are dissolved. Stir in the cherries and almonds until well mixed. Pour into pretty serving bowl (or oiled Jello mold). Chill until firm. Unmold (if applicable) and serve. (Mom always served this with mayonnaise or Miracle Whip.)

Thanks for all the ideas!
Does anyone make the perrenial pineapple, lime jello and cottage cheese salad? I am not ashamed to say I love it...and here's a recipe for you. (The secret is the Miracle Whip...I kid you not.)
1 6-oz. package lime Jello
1 large carton (12 oz.) small curd cottage cheese
1 16-oz. can crushed pineapple, drained
1 cup Miracle Whip salad dressing
1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
Dissove Jello in 2 cups boiling water. Stir in other ingredients. Chill at least 4 hours or until set.
When you think about this -- it would be a pretty good light meal! C'mon, everyone -- give it a try. It's good!

My mother used to make this one:
2 packages lemon jello
1 cup grated carrot
1 cup canned crushed pineapple, drained
Dissolve the jello in 2 cups boiling water for at least 2 minutes. Stir in 1-3/4 cups cold water and refrigerate for an hour or until partially set.
Stir in the grated carrot and crushed pineapple, and allow to set up completely. Yummy -- and it sneaks a veggie in there, too.
Note: Fresh pineapple CANNOT be used with Jello.

that sounds kinda good. i didnt know that you cant use fresh pineapple tho. glad i know that now! i have a book with gourme jello shots, tho i dont drink, i did think it would be good for an adult party. you should see some of these recipes! i never knew these things exixted but on the other hand you can also use them without alcohol and they would be fun maybe done in a jello mold or something. some of the flavor mixtures sound really good.
