If I could learn anything it would be to cook. I have these big dreams which I blam Iron Chef for. They make it look so easy... its not!!! I know it takes practice, but it takes a lot of time and money at the same time!!
I tried to paint...key word there was try. I think a preschooler could do better than I could. I will just say that it was "abstract." Well if anyone ever needs art supplies...I will have them!! :p
What would you learn if you had time and money to do so??? Or have you learned to do what you have dreamed??

I want to learn how to bead. There are several books listed on Amazon for beginners, but which one would be better over another? I can't decide, so nothing gets done! I live in a small community, so having the convenience of a mega bookstore or even a small book store for that matter to shop at is out of the question. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get started, books? beads? tools?

There is a whole list of things I would try.....horseback riding lessons, singing lessons, painting, tap dancing, pottery...those are a few that come to mind right now. I am going to try some of them eventually. They are on my list of Things to do while I'm still alive!!!

I would love to learn to knit or crochet. I know there are all kinds of kits/videos/books but I just haven't taken the time to do it. There is also a nearby shop that teaches weaving. That would be fun also.

My newest hobby is rubber stamping. I like to make cards, pretty gift bags etc. :bliss:
I would also like to learn to crochet. I bought a book about it but so far all I can do is a chain.

I've always wanted to play the guitar but we had one in the house for awhile and I never did anything about it. I've always had this problem of not wanting to try something if I don't already know how. I worry about what other people will think. These are things, plus others that I'm working on in therapy and I am getting better at it. I got it from my mother.

Lynnk you must have a lot of patience to want to learn to bead, oh and really good eyes!!
Simply_Donna, tap dancing is great!! Really works out those calves, but I have done it many times and its just fun!!You just really worry about your feet, and hope you can keep up!!
Aging...I have never tried knitting. My older sister recently took it up and she loves it. She said it can be relaxing!!
Clog.. you must be very creative. The word rubber stamp makes me believe that. If so I envy your creativeness!!
Buttercup, I had a guitar...not as easy as it looks, I ended up seeling it!! I regret it, but I also don't think I would have the patience to continue to practice. I would much rather dance while someone played the guitar!!

I think I'd like to have a go at scrapbooking and get my photos in order. Perhaps I'll do that when our patchwork teacher retires in 18 months. Wouldn't be game enough to start another expensive hobby whilst I already have one. LOL I'm going to miss my weekly classes so I'll have to do something!

Jessica,
I finally found a bead book on Amazon that I ordered last week; should be here any day. Good eyesight? Nothing a good pair or reading glasses won't help. Patience?? Only time will tell. BTW, Bill Marr has been resurected from the dead on HBO, absolutely zero patience for him ;)

Lynn... LOL!! I am hoping that when I get a little older I will have more patience, either that or when I have kids patience comes with the package!! Bill Marr... on HBO of all channels. I have lost a little respect for HBO!! I can't stand him. His voice and views not a good combination for me!!

If I had the time, money, and space, I would like to design custom tiles for people to create scenic pictures for their walls. I was thinking of tiles about 1/2 inch square and using a cross-stitch type pattern....oh well, someday I will get that kiln....

I would like to learn how to knit. I have crocheted for years, but always thought that it would be neat to knit. An elderly lady that I worked with taught me to crochet. I'm just not sure where to get started in knitting. I don't know anyone that knits and not sure about following a book.

I'd like to learn how to sew. I got a sewing machine for Christmas 2004 and took a sewing class at my local craft store. However, never could find a good time to continue taking classes. Also, I'd like to play the guitar. I bought a really nice guitar when I was 20...a Fender...beautiful cherry wood color...and found out I was tone deaf and couldnt tune the thing! I sold the guitar....today, I regret it. I think I would have enjoyed playing...just for myself.

Bella:
Search out your local wool shop for classes. They will usually have beginner classes and you will learn the basics over a few days. If you want to learn on your own, PM me and I will point you in the direction of some great websites.
Girly Girl:
Sometimes a class isn't what you need if you don't have time for it. Try something basic: a tote bag or boxer shorts. Simplicity has some really easy patterns which you can pick up at Walmart. Buy fabric from their clearance bin. If you can sew a seam on your machine, then you can sew a bag!
Good luck

Lynn, Do you mean as in sewing or jewelry making. I learned jewelry making with beads last summer. I love it. I took a couple of beginners classes as a bead shop, and now I create and make my own stuff. There's loads of info on how to and ordering supplies on the internet. Here's a couple of sites.

I am just beginning to sew (at 40!). Hubby bought me a new machine out of the blue. Just finished my first project. Now don't laugh, I made an apron. It actually turned out pretty good, but I sure wouldn't show it to Martha Stewart! Also, I have always wanted to play the piano. I dreamed of being a nurse. I love taking care of others. Of course I mostly want to be a good person, good wife, and good mother which I think I have accomplished.

Well I've always wanted to try scrapbooking and I'm finally having a go and I'm really enjoying it. Not sure I can continue to have two expensive hobbies but no harm in a girl trying. LOL I patchwork too!
