Have you been to see Brokeback Mountain? A friend and I went to see it last week. I am curious to see what everyone thought. Did you enjoy it? Is it worthy of all the awards it has won and/or been nominated for? Would you recommend it to others?

The town that I live in will not show this movie. Larger towns in our surrounding area have shown Brokeback Mountain, but I personally choose not to see it.

I loved this movie. It was very touching.I strongly reccommend that anyone see it. Love is a basic human right. It is unfortunate to see how many closed minds there still are.

I saw the preview in the theater. Not my type of movie. And I don't find that being closed minded. We are all entitled to our own opinions.

Walk the Line was an incredible movie! I didn't know anything about Cash or Carter, but felt like I did after seeing it. They got gipped at the nominations.

I understand it is done well, but I have no desire to see it.

I will not see it. My husband went with his daughter. He said I would not like it at all. It is not closed-minded. I don't like any movies about people cheating on their spouses.

Could it be the entertainment industry pushing an agenda??

I don't think anyone is pushing an agenda except maybe that of love & tolerance.

I think they are just taking a stand with their beliefs hoping that middle America will agree or conform. Brokeback is not the only one.. Transamerica is another pushing the line. Its great for California but not middle class families!

The new commercial featuring Bill Marr's show on HBO which indirectly refers to Brokeback Mountain is one such example. Bill Marr is another person I refuse to watch.

Enough said!!!!

When people say ugly things, they have no idea what those around them may be experiencing in their own homes!

Hey All!

The "redneck" town that I live in will not show this movie ("oh my god...gay cowboys!") As soon as its out on dvd, I will rent this, but DH will not watch...I tried to tell him, Hey, you can't help who you fall in love with...I fell in love with you!! LOL!!

I have a problem with the fact that they are committing adultery. I choose to not see movies that promote that.

I saw it, mostly out of curiosity due to all the talk, and thought it was quite an intense love story. It just so happens that the love was between 2 cowboys. I felt sad that they had to marry women and have children and do what society thought was right, and deny their true feelings. Both actors did a superb job.

It seems to me that films based on subjects other than adultery seem to be among the minority of movie offerings. :( Through the decades of cinema, Oscar winners and other highly-acclaimed movies ranging from "Dr. Zhivago" to "Unfaithful" have extra-marital love affairs as their basic theme. I have concluded that this topic must be among those which the general public (not including me) wants to see, or otherwise producers wouldn't make them. I would imagine that, generally, movie scripts based on marital fidelity would be too boring for anyone to be interested in producing.

I may watch "Brokeback Mountain" when it reaches cable stations; I am not in any hurry.

I've been re-reading all of these posts -- the movie is playing all over here, including in Jerusalem.

But then again, so is _Paradise Now_ and _Munich_. And I think the Israeli short film _Yossi and Jagger_ may have inspired _Brokeback_.

And, I still haven't got around to seeing _Brokeback_! This selling the flat business is riding roughshod on my cultural life!

I plan to see this when it comes out on DVD (we have no theater in out town and the nearest one is about a 2 1/2 hour drive -each way-) My husband has said he would watch it with me,which is BIG for him. What I love about Canada (and the US) is that we have the freedom to CHOOSE wether or not we want to watch a movie with a theme like this. I fully respect everyones decision on here to not watch, and I know my fellow GGG members respect my (and others) decision to watch Brokeback Mountain. Thats what makes our countries the best places to live...Freedom.

Nope, I'm not interested in the subject matter. I have a friend who went through what the women in the story went through. Dated the guy for three years, and it was actually on their wedding night that he decided to reveal his different passion. Luckily, they were able to get an anulment.....

I haven't seen it yet, and I probably wont. I prefer to read books than to see movies. Some of my friends have seen it and loved it. I don't have a problem with the theme although I can understand if other people do.

I saw this last night, finally!

I don't think they are "promoting" adultery, something I am personally very conservative about myself.

I see the adultery as being another tragedy of the hidden lives.

The movie was much "quieter" than I expected, given all the talk about it it. Even the flashback of the lynching and

SPOILER! SPOILER! SPOILER!

the real death of one of the protagoinists was very low key.

END OF SPOILER, END OF SPOILER, END OF SPOILER!
