View Full Version : Selling, buying, scared!

I am in the process of selling my flat and looking for another one.
The lawyers are currently hammering out a contract, and I am running around trying to find a suitable new place with an owner who is willing to wait those extra days until I really sell my flat.
Anyone been through this recently?
I'm putting this here, and not on the "Home" boards because it is more the money issue that terrifies me.

It's been years since I've moved ( over 20 ) but I can remember the worries that go with it. I don't really have any advice but wanted to wish you luck. I hope that it all works out well for you.

Clogoholic -
Thanks for your kind words. I'm afraid that things have fallen through -- my potential buyers want payment terms that I cannot possibly agree to, and the place I had my eyes on turns out to have serious plumbing problems. Well, better I found out before I bought...!
Everything else is far to expensive for me, unless I dip deep into savings...

Keep looking Marian! You'll find the right place for you. I know that looking can be so frustrating, but when it's right you'll know it. Don't settle for something that has problems. I remember when dh and I were looking for our first house. We thought we had found the perfect house. The price was great, but upon further inspection we saw that it had sustained some water damage. We decided against buying that one, but did eventually find something else, that turned out to be a good buy and investment.

Thanks for your support, too.
I saw something nice yesterday, but now that I don't have a buyer for my place...
I'm not interested for an investment, just a cosy nest for myself. AFter all, I'm only me.
I hate it when people tell me that I should take a big mortgage so I'll have something big to leave to my nephews!

Marian,
We didn't really buy the house as an *investment* , that is we didn't buy to hold onto the property and make lots of money. Guess I worded that wrong, I meant it as an investment in our future. We had been renting and our rent kept going up so we thought it would be better to buy a house and pay for something that was going to be ours, rather than to pay for something that was only benefitting the landlord.
I agree with you on the big mortgage. Buy for you, not for someone else. You will be the one paying the mortgage and living in the home. You are the one that has the final say so!

I agree buying can be scary. DH and I are in the process of looking for a house now. We found one that we fell in love with but someone outbid us. Now we're looking at another. I like it except for the pool. I'm not to crazy about having a pool. I'm terrified my 5yr old will fall in. If we do get it as soon as it warms up everyone is going to take swimming lessons somewhere!
Marian I someone will come along soon. Be patient (I have to keep telling myself this too :) I know it's is hard but it will be worth it. We've had all kinds of unwanted advice too. Good luck!

How's it going?
Arranged for a bridge loan at the bank, in case I buy first, which, unfortunately, seems more likely.
Seeing two places for myself today after work, and meeting with a second time viewer, hopefully, this evening.
Thanks for your support!
I think my friends are getting sick of me already!

Had a session with the goony estate agent (not saying that they are all goony, just the one I had a session with today), pressuring me.
Bird in the hand and all that.
On days like this, and it's supposed to be my holiday (International Women's Day) yet, I feel like dropping the whole thing.

I'm sorry you had a bad day Marion. Keep trying, not all agents are made alike. I've seen a few goony agents whilst we were looking to buy and sell.

I guess they don't have a type of contract there that says you will buy the house in the event yours sells? A contingency contract? That would make it easier on you....I agree with everyone else you need to be patient and go look every time one comes open, the good ones go fast.

They don't have that kind of contract here, it sounds like a great thing. Can you pm me more details about that? I'd like to show it to some people.
In the mean time, I have decided to drop the matter for a while. I knew it would be difficult, but not such a nightmare.
Truth? The reason I started now, and not a couple of years ago when I should have, or waited a while longer is because my mother is not well, and I know that she wants to see me in a new place from this world and not the next.
Thanks for all your support.
With love,
Marian

Marian  I'm sorry your mom is not well. Sometimes it is life events that propel us to do things we've been putting off to do at a later date.

Thanks everybody for the wonderful support, but I dropped the whole thing, it's taking too much out of me.
Amostthere - I'd still like to hear about that kind of contract if you can get me the info.
Again, thanks to all.

Best of luck, Marion! Just remember, that goony real estate agent needs to be reminded that he is working for you! That makes you HIS boss when it comes to making a deal, and you can fire him if he doesn't work out for you.

Yes, there was so satisfaction in telling him that I have decided not to do business with him.
