View Full Version : Breeding Canaries!
I breed canaries for a hobby & although there's a lot of work involved, I find it very rewarding. Right now I'm excited because I have 2 newly hatched babies! :cheerlead They're not much to look at now, but it's amazing to watch them grow & transform from tiny bald chicks into beautiful little birds. Watching the parents building their nests & feeding their young is also a very heartwarming experience. :signheart

Now thats an interesting hobby. Alot of work and patience I can imagine!! Do you sell them afterwards? To me that would be hard, to see something being born then have to give it up! :(
I started this hobby 3 years ago with my husband . We bought a pair of canaries & started breeding them for fun. All you have to do is add a nest in the cage, give them some nesting material & they do the rest. My husband got really into it & slowly we purchased a few more pairs. The year after, we had more than doubled the number of birds by breeding all the pairs. It seems like we became breeders overnight, but it's more of a hobby & we haven't sold any to petshops yet because we're still trying to increase our numbers. :)

Thats very cool!!I am guessing it doesn't take long for them to figure out what to do!!
I now have three more "baby birds" from another set of parents! Five babies in total so far!:D I have to provide a mash of hard boiled egg & leafy greens twice daily for the parents to feed the young.
