Today, dh gave me an early birthday present. We went to a specialty bra shop and I had a proper fitting done. What I found out was not that I was wearing the wrong size, but the wrong type of bra. I pointed to my bra and told the gal the problem I was having and she knew instantly what the problem was.

So I don't have full breasts, bigger in the middle but nothing on top. I am not to wear triangle shaped bras, which is what I have been buying for the last 10 years!

She showed me how to put my boobs in the bra and what to look for. So I got 2 very nice bras, $100 worth *omg* But I think they are going to be worth it. I put one on as soon as I got home and it is amazing. I actually look like I have boobs and there is no bulging or puckering anywhere on the bra. The bras do have an underwire, but surprisingly it is really comfortable.

Guess I am going to have to gradually stock my bra drawer. One of the bras I tried on was $72! I didn't get that one, but did like it. Maybe next month. ;)

I have had a bra fitting before, but have not gone to buy the 'correct' bra. At the time the $60 (+) was just to much to pay for one.

I was close in my bra size, I was only off a cup size (which I have yet to find in a regular store).

I do like having a bra that fits, so when I have one that it gets stretched or wears out, out it goes and in comes a new one.

I've always bought mid line bras, not the cheapest, but not the most expensive. I am really surprised at the difference. I gulped at the price tag, but am really pleased with the purchases. And I now know what to look for when I am looking at other places for bras. It will be interesting to see how the cheaper bras in the same shape compare. I have a feeling I will be spending a few more dollars to get the good ones. Interesting, as I get older, I feel that I am worth it. :D

One of the things on my list of things to do is to go to a specialty store for a bra fitting since my tried and true Playtex model I've been buying for years just doesn't seem to fit right anymore :(

Where is a good place to be fitted? I have gone to Norsteroms before, but the girl was helping so many people it did not go so well

I plan on going to a independently owned store that specializes in undergarments. I found out about the one I want to go to by word of mouth. I would ask friends and family in your area if they have any recommendations.

Most department stores do bra fitting...of course as with any chain, the staff at each location can vary greatly.

If you felt your Nordstrom's visit didn't go well only because she was too busy, why not try them again when they aren't so busy. Give them a call and ask when would be a good time to come in so that you can get proper attention.

Take care

sadlite,
I went to an independent store that only sells bras and undergarments. The staff was very knowledgeable. Check your local yellow pages.

I wanted to get a bra fitting but didn't know where to go. I went to Dillards and the lady looked at me and said you're a 35 D. I was like, aren't they supposed to measure. That wasn't too helpful. How do you find people who do it properly?

I'm suprised Dillard's treated you that way. I would have recommended any of the major department stores or asking friend for recommendations about a specialty lingere shop in your area.

My last bra fitting was way too long ago, but was done at JC Penney. And they did measure as well has have me try on different bras.

Take care

Wow - I have never heard of "bra fittings"! I would really like to have one but can't afford a bra so expensive. I have always got my bras from Walmart - and no more than $10.00. I wonder if you can have a bra fitting without spending so much money on one. I would love to be able to wear a bra that was fitted for me - that would be so NICE! I just usually buy whats on sale. I didn't know that there was a certain fitting...

I will have to look into this and see if I can have a fitting so that I can find out what I should be wearing. Thanks and I hope that I can do this soon...

I went for a bra fitting a couple of years ago and it is amazing how different things feel with the right bra! I was wearing the wrong size and style. The bras I ended up with were $38 each and I collected 4 of them. I know they are worn now, so I guess it's time to go back and have "the girls" rechecked!!

You could look at purchasing one bra that has been fitted as an investment and use the information you gain to purchase elsewhere. The woman who fitted me pointed out what one bra fit me better than others. I did buy a couple bras from her and I felt that wearing them was a reminder of what to look for when I went shopping for additional ones.

I did the same thing. I did buy several bras from the specialist, but took heed to what they told me. I now know what to look for so can also get some good fitting bras when they go on sale at the local dept store. :)

Thanks girls - I probably won't be able to do it for awhile b/c finances are tuff right now. I am looking forward to doing this for myself. Thanks for the "pamper me" info... where is the best place to go.

Hi Michele

In the UK we have a variety of places to get good bra fitting help. Do you have Marks and Spencer stores near you? I know they are in Canada but not sure if they are in the US or not? You could still get a fitting (we are not charged for that over here) and buy a cheaper bra elsewhere. Or you could always ask friends and relatives for vouchers/gift cards from a speciality store near you for birthday, mothers day or Christmas.

Hope that is one solution for you my best friend.
Take care

No Marks/Spencer stores here that I know of - I really don't go shopping for myself - I only hit Walmart on occassion - so there may be one of them. Wow that would be nice if I could get one at no charge. Good idea to get the bra fitting and then pick one up at Walmart of Target.

D'anne:
I will keep an eye out in the paper - excellent idea!

Thanks Ladies~~~

Michele ;)

That's exactly what I do....

I tend to go go to 2 different underwear shops and have myself fitted. Then I try on bras there and maybe buy one or 2, depending on price.... Later, I use the info in other (less expensive) stores or online.

BTW, I didn't really know to distinguish about different bra types until I visited my first specialty underwear shop. It's there that I learned that demi cups, padded underwire and wider bands are best for me. (The wider bands help with back fat. Demi cups are great for women with more fullness in the middle and bottom of the cup.)
