I had gestational diabetes with both my pregnancies ,but have never had any trouble with blood sugars otherwise....now that my baby is just turned FIVE....my blood sugar is gone mad. I all of a sudden drop low....and I mean LOW...like 46 if I do not eat VERY OFTEN. I feel like I will pass out. I start shaking furiously all over, I get weak and my vision gets blurry. I collapsed in a restraunt one day waiting to be seated. I knew I was hungry, and had been while since I had eaten. My mom is diabetic ,for HIGH blood sugar. She said she gets too low occasionally ,and carries glucose tabs. She shoved them in my mouth, but I couldnt chew..I was shaking soo bad and almost unconscious. She checked blood sugar and it was like 40. They started pouring soda pop in my mouth.Everyone was freaking out. It took me a good hour to regain my strength and to feel somewhat normal. My doctor only done a fasting blood sugar check and said I am fine. What kind of test should I get? anyone have this? I am just making sure I eat SOMETHING every two hours and carry some glucose tabs on me now. I check bloodsugar regularly also to make sure it doesnt get too low.

No offence to your doctor, but you should get a second opinion from an endocronologist. I hope you get to feeling better.

I to had gestational diabetes with all 4 of my pregnancies
Now my dr said i am borderline?
I have started to get similar symptoms
I go shaky, feel dizzy, get very thirsty, my tongue tingles, my lips feel funny if i lick them like they got TCP on them?
I keep smelling a smell like TCP
Then my heart starts racing so fast it feels like its going to jump out my chest
I have noticed its when i don't eat or drink anything with sugar in it i get these symptoms like my body is trying to tell me something but i just ignore it until i get so weak that i have to sit down and eat something even if its just a toasted teacake and a cup of amaretto coffee made with milk
Then usually within 5 to 6 Min's after i feel fine again
I to have had the fasting blood test and just comes back the same saying i'm still borderline and could go either way with age

Hi all! I have Hypoglycemia, diagnosed by my neurologist. In his opinion, a glucose test (I had to do the 3 hr) is not the only tool for diagnosing hypoglycemia. He also looked at my symptoms, family history (several with hypoglycemia), and my history--gestational diabetic with my 2nd pregnancy.

I monitored my blood sugar for a long time, until I began to learn what signs meant low or high or dropping. I have also seen several dieticianist who have helped me with my diet.

What many people do not realize is that your sugar is affected by your entire diet, not just the actual sugar in your diet. For instance, if you eat something with a high fat content, the fat keeps the food from converting to sugar for a long time. Thus, that meal does you no good for awhile. If you eat a meal that is straight carbs, it turns into sugar immediately, spikes your sugar, then crashes. Protein takes awhile to convert to sugar. Thus, you need a mix for right now, in a little while, and later, so your levels are not on a roller coaster ride.

We have worked out a plan that works well for me, when I stick to it. (I have other health issues that affect my appetite and ability to eat at times.) I mix carbs, protein, and fat to attempt to maintain a more level blood sugars, also eating several smaller meals, rather than jsut 3 large ones.

If you feel at all that you are Hypoglycemic, I highly recommend finding a dr and/or a dietitianist (nutritionist) who can help you find a diet that will help maintain your levels. Keep a journal of your symptoms, what you ate, how much you ate, etc. This can be beneficial in helping diagnose you as well as find patterns you need to break.

If at all possible, you can also benefit from seeing a Diabetes Educator. They are very knowledgeable about diabetes and also low blood sugar issues.

Best wishes! :grouphug:

I too had a similar test done when i was in my 2nd pregnancy and thats how the dr found out i was diabetic while pregnant
I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago now in july and have noticed that the feelings of weakness dizziness, dry mouth, etc have gotten worse
I am due for my next fasting blood sugar test which i hate as am not allowed to drink anything past midnight not even water & that is hard when your mouth is constantly crying out for liquid
I went to see a dietitian once but she was no help as she just said i don't eat enough to help me loose any weight
I hardly eat as my appetite is non existent most days  and it never used to be
I am on meds for high blood pressure, sickness, IBS, hayfever, incontinence and now i have also got tinnitus which have been told is no cure for
