Hi all!
My husband and I are in a dilema. We live in a small house (with our 2 kids) and are in desperate need of more room. The problem is that we live in an area that has extremely high housing prices. If we move, we would have to leave the school district we love, I would have to quit my jobs and we would have to change our entire lives. I'm having a hard time justifying moving 30 miles north and disrupting our entire lives just for a little more room.
Remodeling would cost about $100K and would take about 6 months. Should I just bite the bullet and move?
To purchase a 3 bedroom 2 bath house in our immediate area would cost about $300K. If we go north about 30 miles the cost comes down to $200K.
Any thoughts?

Hi.
We live in a small house.. brought up two boys in it.. Yes it was crowded.. We do not have a basement for storage.. all was stored in garage or porch..But it is out in the country with no close neighbors ...The land is so great..We stayed here and been here 28 years.. Both boys are gone and I really miss a full house!! We have made many repairs but never added on and now I am glad we didn't.. because then I would have more to clean and it would seem even emptier! My house and warm and cozy and I love it.. but I miss my boys!

IMHO, it sounds like you should stay where you are at. It would be cheaper to remodel then to move in your area and it sounds like you are happy with your location. Now, I am only saying this on assumption that after you remodel you will want to stay in this house for awhile.
It just doesn't sound like moving would make you very happy.

You really answered your own question. You said you would have to change your entire life and the main thing.. leave the school district you love. Your children's education is not worth it! Come on.. just remodel...it would be fun!! I think your kids would be happy, and you yourself would be happy!!
