Hi ,
I have just been told I have Rosacea.. I now have cream that I put on at night..Not sure if it is working... Getting warm seems to be a trigger...or nervous.. What other creams can be used??
thanks,
Pam
What does Rosacea look like & how does someone know if they have it? How does it happen & what are the symptoms? Is it very obvious or could it be mistaken for redness due to irritation etc.?

Hi,
It is a very red face, sometimes with pimples.. certains things can trigger it.. Heat being a trigger for me..or getting nervous in a crowd..spicy foods....It can run in familes..My brother has it and Dad had it..I saw dr about it..because people would say why is your face so red??? I got sick of them asking! http://www.rosaceainfo.com is a place to get info about it..

I had a discolored place on my cheek that I noticed. I didn't know if it was due to aging or what. I had gone to the dermatologist for something else and asked him about it. It turned out to be rosacea. He prescribed different creams, but it didn't really seem to do much. Mine is such a mild case that I don't consider it a big problem and the doctor said that it is not getting worse. Luckily, I can cover it with makeup. He said that laser therapy would lighten the discolored place, but our insurance plan considers it a cosmetic procedure and will not cover the cost so at this point in time I'm not going to worry about it . I do plan to keep appointments with my dermalogist so that it does not worsen.
I would suggest getting any skin problems checked by a dermatologist, though. My regular physician had looked at it and did not even suggest the possibility of roseacea.

Hi,
Yes I have been seeing a dermatologist every 6 months.. I have had several basal cell skin cancers removed. We keep a close watch on things..The last visit he said I did not need to come unless I noticed something.. That is a good thing as it is an hour drive to get there. The cream I am using seems to be helping the red cheeks.

Rosacea is typical of fair-skinned maidens...and definitely a plight for folks of Irish heritage. I've lived with Rosacea for all my life. I've used the creams prescribed by doctors and they helped a bit but also seemed to dry out my face. Rosacea left untreated, however, can lead to more serious isssues than just pimples and red splotches...WC Fields' nose was a result of rosacea left untreated. Also, in some cases rosacea left untreated can effect your eyes...
Anyway...the best stuff I've used (and believe me, I've tried tons and am not opposed to trying tons more) is Dove Essential moisturizer FOR SENSITIVE SKIN, Eucerin redness relief lotion and a greenish powder from Physicians Formula (the powder doesn't help the rosacea but it helps hide the redness). I only wash my face with Dove soap FOR SENSITIVE SKIN. Aveeno makes a great exfoliant...and a soy based, alcohol free toner. However, exfoliant's and toners should be used SPARINGLY if at all...but sometimes I just can't resist.
Different things trigger rosacea flare ups differently for each person but the basic rule of thumb is anything that makes you "flush" (or blush) will worsen the tell-tale signs of rosacea...alcohol (the kind often found in your facial regimen and the kind you drink). Spicy foods, getting overheated (that included rigorous workouts), etc.
The site that someone else recommended is great and there is even a Rosacea Society newsletter that they will send you for free.
Hope this helps :o
