My husband is a major Star Wars fan. He also does art work in the Gaming Field under a Lucas Art's license. So he is very excited about a huge Star Wars Celebration coming to Tokyo in July.
We can afford the trip... however is it going to be worth our entire vacation budget for the year. That means no Hawaii. No NYC.
He has always taken me on trips to where ever I wanted to go. As long as it was in the USA or Canada. I really would love to travel to Ireland, but it was outside of the US so he was pretty negative. But now he is ready and anxious to go to Japan. It would definitely be an adventure.
So what do you think? Have you ever been to Tokyo? Are we going to regret spending the money on a trip to Japan?

Cindy,
I would love to see Japan! If it is your husband's dream and you can afford it, why not do it? You only live once in a lifetime. I would gladly sacrifice a trip to NYC/Hawaii if my dh was so excited about going somewhere else.
Cindy,
I have never been to Japan, but would definitely go, especially if you always go to Hawaii and NYC. It's only one year of missing the standards and I think it would be a great adventure to go someplace new. I would also go because the opportunity may not be there in the future and I wouldn't want to regret not making the trip.
Also sounds like a way to work out doing an Ireland in the future (ie: Star Wars for him, Ireland for you ;), so that would be an added bonus for you.
Take care

Heard it is great, but really, really expensive.

We have researched the hotels, travel etc. and we are shocked at the prices. You sure don't get much for your money in Japan.
At this point we are just going to take a week or two and think about it.

Japan has always been considered expensive. And now with the weak American $ things are even worse.

My dad made a trip to China last year, and he tagged on an extra 3 days in Tokyo. He loved it, but yes -- it was expensive!

I was stationed on Okinawa for more than a few years and went to Tokyo as often as I could. Check out Tokyo Disneyland, and ride the subway; it's a trip...
The people are polite and helpful for the most part, and there are usually other Americans or Westerners there. Yakota Air Base is in Tokyo if you really get in trouble.
I think you will like it, but like Ginger said, it is pricey. It set me back quite a bit and the military flew me there for some classes. We got lucky and two typhoons hit in 2 weeks, so classes were canceled and we had a good old time. Oh, yea, don't go during typhoon season.
Side note: Thinking of Tokyo remind me of when my friend that I was with made me go to a Japanese pharmacy to buy her a few pregnancy tests because she didn't want to be seen doing it. Like she was gonna run into her mom there, right? :D

We didn't make the trip to Japan.
The down turn in the stock market has effected our financials. Like many others, we are reducing our spending.
We hope to take a trip to Japan some day.
Thanks everyone for your input. :)
