I'm looking for anyone who has or has had a Mirena IUD. I'm having terrible problems with my period and short of having a hysterectomy this is the route my doctor would like me to go. I don't know anyone who has used it and i'm looking for any positive or negative feedback before i go to have it inserted next week. I'm a little nervous about this so any feed back would be sooo appreciated!

I think the best place to find information on the Mirena IUD would be at www.hystersysters.com. Use the search feature there to find information, or consider posting in the Options & Alternatives forum. I hope you find the information you are seeking.

Thanks so much Catherine!
I have gone to Hystersisters and posted a thread. I have been stuggling with avoiding getting a hysterectomy for the past 2 years. I signed up with Hystersisters in 2004 when my doctor first suggested surgery but have done my best to avoid it......i'm basically just really scared. In my avoidance i forgot about Hystersisters.....thanks for the reminder!!!!

Hi Shessokitty,I have had a mirena IUD and it did help. I have now had a hsyterectomy but I did have the mirena iud. It will help with your bleeding but not your pain so long as you don't have fibroids. I had one in for 4 months before it fell out and it made a big difference to the heavy bleeding but it does take some time to make a difference as it is a slow release hormone in the iud. it doesn't hurt to have it inserted but i had a general anaesthetic to have mine inserted as i had not had children when it was done. Try it before you have the hysterectomy would be my suggestion.
