Since I'm not a mom, yet, I was wondering what you find to be some of the greatest reasons to be a mom. I can't imagine how great it must be, so let me know your reasons!

I think that the best thing about being a mom is knowing that, somewhere out there, there is a human being who is, really, a part of you. It's also about unconditional love: when you love a child, you do not expect anything in return... you simply love. And that helps you make it through those very hard days that can come along with parenting.

Of course, it helps when your child is the huggy, kissy type!!!

My boys are very cuddly. One of lifes biggest treasures is when they come up behind me and give me a hug. Or just come downstairs, say I love you and bolt back up the stairs. I also love to watch them sleep. I have pictures of them sleeping.

I am putting together a scrap book for the judge in Russia so he can see our family and what the new baby's family will be like. It has brought back a flood of memories, the sloppy kisses and the hugs when they are tiny are unbelievable. Even if they are covered in peanut butter.

I have always given the boys disposable cameras when we go somewhere. I get to see what they see and the things they find amazing that way. Kids see things so differently than adults. Fresh eyes, and they can be facinated by some of the simplest of things.

Huge eyes on Christmas morning when they see that Santa really did come, Easter egg hunts, camping, swimming, hiking... one of our favorites is marco polo in the pool.

Firsts... first birthday cake, first taste of ice cream, first day of school, and teaching them how to dance in the living room before their first date.

Teaching them, guiding them. Watching their successes, and their failures. Being there for them.

The smiles that light up their eyes when they are happy.

Things like my youngest son: When he was 3 to 7 (four years of this) he would come down the stairs EACH and EVERY morning at about 6 am, I would lay in bed and get to listened to EACH and EVERY step he took down the wooden stairs - and just about the time he was at the second from bottom step he'd call out:

"GOOD M-O-R-N-I-N-G, MOM!!"
Then he'd pop my bedroom door open and run to me and say:

"I LOVE you, MOM".

It brings tears to my eyes remembering it...he is now 12 but he ALWAYS now says:

"Don't forget to come kiss me goodnight..." as I send him off to bed.

We also have this "thing" he and I do:

He will say: "I love you Mom"

I will say: "Not as much as I love YOU".

He will say: "I love you MORE than there are fishes in the ocean".

I will say: "I love YOU more than there are stars in the sky"..

He will say: "I love YOU more than there are grains of sand on the beach..."

I will then say..."I will love you forever...and ever".

Then he will say..."Nope, I will love you longer, because I am gonna LIVE longer than YOU!!" Then he'll say: "That's not so great, either..."

I also love having kids because I like the way they smell after they get a bath each night and wash their hair.

For me, being Mama, and hearing it come out of my little man's mouth, is the best. I look at him, and I see myself. Not only his looks, but his actions too. It's amazing to me that I created this child who now looks at me with those big brown eyes, and says, I love you Mama.

Being a Mother of 4 Boys has been the biggest blessing in my life. I am so blessed that all of my Sons are very close to me! Even My 23 year old calls me everyday, even if for only a minute to let me know he loves me!! My sons still hug me alot and always tell me they love me. Now that they are getting older and the 2 oldest are men now...they amaze me everyday! I see myself in them quite a bit! I look back at all the years raising them, the hard-ships, the heart-aches & all the challenges & Hard work...And I can say it has all been worth it!! My youngest Son ~Matthew~ age 13 is my baby...we have a deal now...I can only call him my nick-name for him when his friends are not around!! lol he is growing up!!
Kate! I could go on and on about the blessings of having my children...But I am sure you will find out when you have your child or children!! I have 2 friends that have never had children and beleive me, you can tell!! Once you become a Mother...The change in you and your values are awsome!!
I liked what CandianGirl said about having a part of you being out there in the world!! You simply Love!!! Love itself is the greatest gift you can give & receive!

This is not a little post kind of topic - this is a book or several!

I have three sons, 21, 19, and 16. It started with that little flutter in the womb when you know you have this precious little life inside of you. Then you meet them when they are born. You look at this little person that depends on you for everything and you thank God for allowing you some small part in the creation of this miracle.

Every day after that comes other small miracles: When they say mama, when they crawl in your lap, when they are sick and want only you. You watch them grow and mature and you build the strongest foundation under them so that when they are away from you they still have you in their head.

Today my 21 year old called me on my cell at work to tell me some good news he got. He still needs to talk to his mom. How amazing is that? My 16 year old went out shopping to get a small gift for a young lady and also came home with chocolates and a teddy bear for me. Life doesn't get any better!

Oh my gosh! Just being a MOM is something that for me is hard to explain. I love my kids and am so glad that I have them. They can cause so much emotion in one day but I sure think it is the best thing that came from my marriage for sure!

I have seven children, four boys and three girls. I can not describe the joy they have brought to my life. There were challenging, happy, sad,and scarey, times, with all of my kids. But the joy of holding that brand-new life, and knowing that there is a bundle of incredible potential in your arms is more than I can describe.

Now my children are grown, and they still enjoy talking to their "mum". They are incredible adults, that are an asset to their communities. I like who they have become. They are more than my children now, they are my best friends. They love each other, and we are all there for one-another no matter what. Children are the most wonderful blessing in the world.

What can I say about being a Mom? Well being a mom is the best job & hardest, most unappreciated job in the word. I can't imagine living my life without my children. To begin with my husband & I were both told that we couldn't have children. I was told at the age of 16 that I would probably never be able to have a child due to a cyst on my ovarie. My husband was told that he would never be able to have children, because of an injury he sustained while in the service. Well needless to say, Doctors are not always right! We have 2 boys who challenge us on a daily basis. Being a parent is a hard job. When they are little you do everything with in your power to protect them & worry everyday if you are making the right decisions to help them grow to be independent individuals. Then as you watch them grow into young people you have days when you say to yourself, "WOW, how to I get so lucky to have raised such a great kid?" Then there are also days when you ask yourself where you went wrong....lol. But honestly just remembering that all your children are individuals with minds, personalities, hearts & free spirits of their own, as long as you remember to always treat them as such & let them teach you & you also teach them. That is the biggest thing about being a parent. With guidance from their parents children tend to find their way into themselves. :) I guess I would say that the best thing about being a parent is watching your child bloom into the person that they are meant to be. And knowing that you had a hand in helping them to realize just who they are!

My kids are 14 and 15 and it would be impossible to narrow it down to just one thing. I love that my 15 yr old still lets me tuck her in and kiss her good night every night, she actually asks me to, I love to see what a wonderful person she has become, she makes me very proud, everything I imagined in a daughter and more. I love that my son still has his innocence, he will forever believe in Santa and has a smile that lights up any room, he loves to throw kisses and can't get enough of people cheering him on, he may have severe disabilities but everyone who meets him loves him. Of course him thinking mom and dad are the greatest people on the planet is pretty cool too :) .

There are so many WONDERFUL reasons to be a mother. You start out with soft skin and sweet smells, and move on to the wide eyed wonder of a toddler who discovers the world around her for the first time, to the first tearful day of kindergarten. And in the middle, you have whispered "I love you"s, hugs just because, and the feeling that nothing in your life will matter more than this little person. Motherhood is the loss of freedom in exchange for well baby checks and bad report cards. And I would not trade one moment with my daughters for all the money in the world!

I honestly can't pin point one thing that is the best thing about being a Mom! Everything about it is awesome! I have 4 ranging from ages 7.5 - 3. The contant "I Love You Mom" or "Your the best Mom" is an amazing feeling! The unconditional love, the sorrows, the happiness, the constant hustle and bustle of a busy family! It's truely an awesome blessing to be a Mom and to teach your children, watch them grow, seeing yourself in them, and re-living your childhood through them!

huge disclaimer: i am divorced and raise my kids all by myself, meaning they don't spend time with their dad. i don't get every other weekend, etc. sometimes, i get overwhelmed and even tho i love them, i just want some "me" time. this leads to my story...

last weekend, i was calling my daughter TB for "tiny bum." we were giggling about it. my son, who is almost 7, made this instant connection with TB and tiny bum and started making up his own little cute acronyms. i was sitting at the computer and he came in and threw his arms around me and said I. L. M. then he said WAIT.. I L Y M. i pretended like i didn't know what that meant. he said at the top of his lungs, "I LOVE YOU MOM!" it was so cute. my heart melted. i forgot that he and his sister had spilled an entire box of honey bunches of oats all my living room floor less than 12 hours after i cleaned the house from top to bottom. being a mom is rough, but can be very rewarding at times. most of all, being a mom MAKES you appreciate your OWN mom and makes you wish you had been a better kid. ;)

Two reasons for my children:

A) My mother cursed me--you know, "Just wait, you'll have kids and they'll be twice as bad!" I did, and they are!! :p

B) I love a challenge. :queen: See my post under mother / daughter relationships about my current problem with DD. And my 16 year old son is a mutating, body noise making, don't want to roll out of bed until 5 p.m kinda of kid!!

And do you know what, I wouldn't change either for the world and I would do it all over again. There have been joys and sorrows, heartaches and hugs and LOVE! Lots of love.

Teresa,

Your mom was much nicer than mine, I always heard "I hope your kids are ten times worse than you." Fortunately I was a pretty good kid and only got into trouble rarely or I would be in big trouble:). My younger sister was the worst and got kids 10 times better than her, my poor older sister got the kids ten times worse (and then some).

Dear Kate:

I once heard that you will never know how much your mom loves you until you become a mom yourself... I think that's very true!!

I love just about everything about being a mom. I think that's what I was sent here for. I love the sweet little baby hands, that and how sweet they smell :bliss: How they come to you with their worries & joys. I'm gonna love being the "mother of the bride" in a few months. I expect to shed many tears that day.

Then maybe, not tooo far in the future, I can have the joy of being a grandma :bliss:

I have 6 children -three that I gave birth to and three that came with my husband. I was only 17 when I had my oldest son, not the best circumstances, but I would not change it for the world now. My mother was worried (rightly so) that I was not mature or responsible enough, and before he was born, I was not, but when I held that little boy in my arms for the first time- everything changed. I wanted to give him the world. I knew that I could not do that if I didn't finish school, so I finished, graduating early so I could get a better job, While my friends went to our senior prom, I was working at a nursing home to pay for diapers. I always wondered if I was going to look back at the things that I "missed out on" and get angry that I couldn't do those things, but 13 years later, I still don't. -There is nothing in the world like looking down at your child as he is nursing and seeing him look back at you lovingly with your own eyes, or the way he lights up when he pulls the blanket down and you are still there to yell "peek-a-boo", or the look of pride when he ties his shoe all by himself.
I could go on forever listing the wonderful things about having kids, they have given purpose to my life, they give me a reason to get out of bed every morning and to come home from work every night. I have eaten "special" birthday breakfasts that would have put a non-mother in intensive care for a week, I have kissed boo-boo's on filthy toes, and even a tushy or two. I have fallen asleep next to a toddler only to wake up a few seconds too late to have gone my entire adult life without knowing what a booger tasted like. I have cried hours past what I thought was humanly possible and then some, and I have laughed until it felt like I had done serious damage to my insides. I have woke a sleeping child just so I could rock her to sleep, and stayed up all night just watching them dream. They make me smile when I'm down, they make me worry like I never thought I could. I have laughed at the same bad joke a million times, and called my own mother just to say thank you for laughing at mine. I am so much prouder of their accomplishments than I ever could be of my own, and when they try and fail, it hurts me even more to see them hurt.
I have been so very blessed by these little ones, and I never forget to thank the Lord for entrusting me with such special little people.
Being a mom is that hardest thing I have ever done, but it by far the most rewarding!

Being a Mom was always my dream. It took us a long time to be able to get our children here. We have 3, we wanted more but it did not work out. I love my children, they bring so much joy into our lives. They are truly gifts from God. Raising them sometimes is a challenge, but that is how we grow. We are in the process now of becoming foster parents. I love being a full time mom.

When i became a mom, i literally stopped breathing. when you first see your child, when you hear her first laugh, when you see her first smile, first step, first everything....she is going to be ten this year, and we are living apart, and my heart aches for her....soon we will be together again, and that huge hole in my heart will be filled. when you love your child so much it hurts to breathe, you know you have felt love the way it is supposed to be felt...hearing the words "I love you MOM"...it is a priveledge to be a mom, it is the best feeling..i cannot simply explain it with words..when you see a little double of you...the face, the eyes, the actions, the words and expressions...true and powerful love like no other...amazing, overwhelming, powerful and the ultimate in feelings...I would fetch the moon and the stars for that little walking miracle...nothing she says or does could ever diminish the love i have for her. my love for her is limitless...takes my breath away....

My girls, 10 and 6, help me keep life in perspective. They see the magic and the joy in the 'little' things that I so easily overlook. And their questions really challenge my thinking. What an awesome responsbility that God has given me!

One of the greatest things about being a mom to me is.... unconditional love and brutal honesty and always guarnteed to laugh. My daughter made sure to point out my pimple to be me today and to tell me how yucky that it is, but she loves me no matter what (thanks, I think)lol.
