Hi ladies....

Well I am back online!!! I have been offline for a couple of days due to a thunderstorm that hit our area yesterday. We had been in bed asleep and got woke up by the storm. My dh and I lay there listening to the storm for a couple of minutes. I had thought about getting up and checking my weather program to see what this storm looked like. I had also thought I need to go get our dogs that were outside and bring them in. Well before I could get out of bed, a clap of lightning hit so very close. The power went out, I heard a zap beside my bed and I come flying up out of bed.
When I got out to the living room, I could see the stove through the kitchen door. The light was flashing on it, it's 220. Then the A/C kicked on. I could smell a faint smoke smell also. Okay something isn't right somewhere. I go to the breaker box, and it had tripped some of the breakers. Okay got the lights back on, but now no phone. I am pretty handy at different things like that, but I went to a neighbors and called for a tech to come out. Well they showed up today. Back to yesterday, when I got back home, I told dh that I was going to go see if we had phone outside in the box. I got out there to use the test jack, but there was a huge problem...there is no phone box!!! It was blown off the house and my siding has alot of smoke damage now. Now go back inside and report to dh about the box and I take him out to look at it. He is just completely shocked. Okay back inside, I can't get my satalite to aquire a signal. no phone can't call the company. Lets check other things. Okay the VCR is fried..the printer for the computer is fried....dh's computer has no sound now...the tv in our room is fried....the 2 cordless phone's power to them are fried...and of couse the satalite box. So now to today...the phone guy come out and put a new box on the house. He was able to hook 2 of the 3 lines that were hooked up before, and said that one line had interference and wasn't getting a dial tone on it, but the other 2 had dial tones. He also said we would probably be better off with a new dsl modem, and gave us one just in case. He leaves and so I come in to figure out which lines are hooked up. HUMMMM...what is this. but no dial tone to any of the lines. Oh just wonderful. 2 of the lines run under the house, and I wasn't going to climb under there. Just had a hyst 6 1/2 weeks ago, and wouldn't be a good idea. So this leaves us with one line to work with. This is the line that the satalite was hooked up to, and runs out the wall and just a couple of feet to the box. Well this jack is behind my tv...so had to rearrange things to be able to get back there. The line that had been running into my satalite box got completely blown out and the plugin got blew off. Okay problem here. Got to the jack, and you can see where smoke is on my wall above the jack. With DSL, you have to use a filter at the main jack....there is no filter plugged into the jack. I found bits and pieces of it scattered around back behind the tv. So I tried a new phone line in the jack...DEAD. Okay well lets try a new jack...DEAD. Okay we need to replace the line. So I tried to splice the old and new lines together to pull the new one through...out comes the old, but no new attached. We had a heck of a time trying to get the new line through. Finally we decided to wait until later...as we had both been up for over 24 hours and wanted some sleep. When we got up, it was getting dark out. I thought well lets put a light by the hole and go out and see if we can line up the line with the light....TADA...got it to go through finally. Got the line hooked up outside, and then come in and connected it to the jack......TADA...we have phone. So I am busy trying to get everything hooked up to that one line....phone, a line for the satalite box and DSL. Luckily I had some extenders and was able to get it all hooked up. So now that everything is hooked back up, let's get the computer back online. Well guess what...it was a good thing he left a new modem, as of course....you guessed it...it's fried. Along with the modem, found out that the network hub is also fried. So hook up the new modem and get it all installed and running........YEAHHHH we have internet again, but only on one computer. :( But I guess it's better than nothing.

After the storm yesterday that woke us up, it cleared off. Then the storms raged again last night. I am almost 40 years old and loved to watch and listen to the storms, but after the damage the storm caused us and seeing that my house just about burnt down....I am deathly afraid of them now. :scaredcou I was close to going into panic attacks when it was storming last night. Maybe once things calm down maybe I can handle the storms, but for now..I hope they stay away.

Anyhow sorry for this being so long...but thank you for letting me vent. This has been a very rough time and hope it will get better soon. :frazzled:

WolfiesAngelBear,

All I can say is wow! I'm glad that you and your family wasn't hurt and nothing caught fire.

Now that you are getting things back up and running, I would take the time to do a walkthrough of the entire house and check all your other outlets, lines and everything plugged into them. Also your insurance may cover some of the damage.

Take care

Wow that almost sounded like an Oklahoma storm....glad nothing happened too bad.
I agree with JC and check everything, sometimes the surge protectors get fried and can start a fire even though they are working. Ugh!
I am 4 weeks post hysterectomy...waiting to feel stronger. I am still as weak as a kitten (no pun intended)and still need my naps.

Hi ladies....

Yes I am very glad that nothing worse happened to the house, or my DH and I. I have been checking things out. I have also found that my microwave is messed up also.
We have talked about possibly turning things into insurance, but at the same time don't really need the premiums to sky rocket either. With us both being disabled, we can barely pay for the insurance the way it is now.
So far the surge protectors are doing okay, but I plan on replacing them as soon as I can. Hopefully can pick up a couple at the beginning of the month.

Kitten, you'll get there. Just take things easy. These last few days really wore me out and I have been sleeping alot.

Thanks ladies!!
