I was scheduled to work today at 9:30 but I'll be spending the day at home. We're experiencing blizzard-like conditions, with high winds and heavy snow.
Before this storm is over, we should have upwards of 18 inches of snow on the ground. That figure is deceiving though, as this is a light, powdery snow and the high winds will cause it to drift. I looked out my front door, and on the left side of my yard I can see bare ground, but on the right side is deep snow.
Today's snow will be an all-day event, and that's one reason I decided not to go to work I'm afraid that if I go, I won't be able to get home tonight. Besides, I work in a supermarket and I don't think many people will be shopping today.
Actually, I don't mind driving in snow, but when it gets this bad the best place to be is home. Keeping traffic off the roads insures that the snowplows can clear the roads.
What does all this mean? Well I'm going to enjoy my rare Sunday at home, I'll probably bake some brownies, make some hot chocolate, and just hang around. :hangin:
I must say that the snow is beautiful. There's nothing prettier than new snow. I'll take a couple of pictures later and post them in my gallery.
I just got photos from my friend up in New Jersey! They are covered in blankets of snow. Its looks BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR there!

It's actually snowing sideways here, and the wind is just whipping around my house. They are forecasting between 15 and 20 inches here. I just finished a nice hot cup of hot chocolate...it's a "must have" thing when the frigid temps and snow arrive. The best thing is that I don't have to shovel because I have a broken wrist. The East Coast is getting so slammed that most of the churches have cancelled services. Power outages are expected in some areas, which will not be good since it's only 18 degrees out there. Still, the beauty of the outdoors during a heavy snow is beyond words.

I posted two pictures of the snow in my photo gallery. I'm sure there'll be lots more snow later, and I'll take more pictures.

Hi,
My first post is about all the snow. Well, it was supposed to be light but when I had to shovel, it was very heavy. It has melted quite a bit. I wanted to go to church because I was signed up to do nursery. I didn't go. They were still calling for 3-6 more inches. DH is sick. :( On my own. I'm sure they made out. As our pastor says, "We will be open!" Just without me. Plows have come by. The snow at the end of the driveway was really heavy. Hello chiropractor (Wed. appt.) Teach school. Pretty sure we'll have that, too. Ready.

I miss the snow. I was born and raised in Wisconsin, but now live it Texas. I know it's not fun when you're having to shovel and can't go anywhere, but I do still miss still seeing that fluffy white stuff.

The storm is over, and we were lucky. It's difficult to measure the depth of the snow because of the drifting, but there were at least 15 inches of snow on the roof of my car before I cleaned it off. New York ended up with much more snow than we did.
There were no power outages and fortunately the storm came on a weekend, when most people were home. Hopefully we won't have another big storm this winter.

We lost power early this morning. Got 18+ inches in Harford Co MD and blizzard conditions. We dug out while the power company got us our electricity back. Our home is completely electric. Good thing one of our neighbors' father works at the power company's storm center.

We almost never get snow here in Louisiana and while I would not like to live where it snows I like to visit places that get snow and get cold. We have had almost no winter.

I"m not sure I miss snow! I hate hurrianes but I dislike driving in snow just as bad! In TN we only get ice with a little of snow so it's the pits when they get just a little snow!

Yeah snow sounds great to me also but not sure I'd like shovelling it off the driveway or driving in it but I'd sure appreciate the coolness of it at present. It does snow about 45 mins from me in winter and I refuse to drive to sewing if it's snowing. Bad enough I drive in frost, black ice,fog and dodge kangaroos.
I hate it too, I would not be sad if I never saw it again or had to deal with it either !!!
I keep telling my husband when we retire I want to live in a place where it never snows ..

So far it's been a mild winter here in Chicago. Two "good" snowfalls, neither of which lasted too long. January is usually our coldest month. This year every day in January was above the average high for the day. More winters like this, please. Better watch my words -- it's not over yet.
