RHB
09-10-2008, 07:29 PM
Everyone, please pray for everyone who lives on the Gulf Coast of the USA. Pray that hurricane Ike is not as powerful as it is currently projected to be (CAT 4). For me, I have relatives in the San Antonio and Huston areas of Texas, as well as an elderly friend who recently moved to Austin. Please pray for everyone.
Thanks.

My thoughts & prayers are with everyone in the path of hurricane Ike--may you all be safe and spared any devastation from this horiffic storm. My heart goes out to all of those already affected by this hurricane also--the loss of lives, homes & personal security has been tremendous. Please, all here who are in the path of Ike, keep us updated on how you are doing when you get a chance. God Bless.

I live near Houston and Ike was a really bad storm and immense. We lost a lot of trees, one went through the roof of our garage. But our house was spared and none of us were hurt. We don't have power or water and probably won't for awhile. But our DD lives an hour away and got her power back already so we're staying with her for now. It sure felt good to get here and be able to bath!
We have soooo much cleanup to do but we're all ok!

Hi there Jean,

I'm so very sorry for all that you have been through these past few days--I cannot fathom what it all must have been like for you and your family. I am just so very relieved to hear that you are all okay, and that you are now safe at your DD's home. My thoughts & prayers continue for all of you who have been affected by this devastating hurricane, and I pray that you will be able to return home safely soon. Please do keep us updated on how you are doing, and please take care. I wish you the very best during the clean-up & recovery process. :hug:s

Hi Trish,
We took a bad hit; lost half of our roof during the storm. It was awful and very scarey. There was water pouring everywhere. We filled and dumped buckets for 5 hours.

We are lucky though, as we got power back on Saturday afternoon. We never lost water.

We are now in the midst of cleanup. Carpets and padding are pulled up and awaiting the trash pickup. We have a crew in doing demo and cleaning up the water damage.

We are awaiting the insurance adjustor so we can start putting our lives back together. It is going to be a long haul.

Glad everyone was safe though! We live in Florida and are constantly threatened by Hurricanes...but rarely get a bad one. My thoughts and prayers are with you amidst the clean up and healing time=)

Hello to everyone.
Those that live in Texas, or who's family live here as well; i hope you all are safe and ok.

My husband, Chuck, 31, had brain surgery on Aug 14th, so we had to evacuate about 9am on 9/11 per chuck's nuerosurgoens orders.
We live in Katy, which is west houston, right on the cypress/katy border.

It took us 8 hrs to get to my inlaws up near dallas, they live in the country in edgewood/canton between tyler and dallas.

We had been displaced from our home for a week tomorrow, but at least my husband, our three young children, and our two pets are here with us and are ok.
Our home in katy has been without power since late friday, as well as no gas, water, or sewage.
Our street alone sustained major wind damage, but no flooding to my knowledge.
We do not know when we will be able to go back home, or when power will be restored, or what awaits us when we return, but I feel so awful for friends and even strangers who have lost their homes in galveston, and all of the coastal and island areas.

My sister and her husband who live in northeast houston about a mile from 45 and about 10 minutes south of the woodlands got stuck in their home for 4 days, and their house flooded.
My BIL is recovering from being hit by a drunk driver on Aug 29th, so this was very hard on him as he is an asthmatic and is suffering broken ribs among other serious injuries from the accident, so having no power, which meant no air, was very hard on him.
My sis and BIl and their two beagle doggies finally got out of their neighborhood and went to sugarland where our oldest half sister lives, and they are still staying with her.
Our other half sister who lives in California owns a home in the Spring Valley/Memorial area in houston, near interstate 10 and blaloch, her home did not fair well and i am going to be taking pictures of her home when we are able to get back into town.

I work off interstate 10 and bingle road, and our new office we just moved to over the summer is still without pwer, but i have yet to hear from my boss as to if there is any damage.

My biological family, Uncle and Aunt, in the Nederland/Port Arthur (Jefferson County) area; had to evacuate and went to stay with their middle daughter, one of my cousins, in kingwood.
I do not know how their home or work places are, but i hope they are safe, i am unable to get ahold since their is no power or phone service.
Their youngest daughter, my other cousin, who lives in Victoria with her new baby boy and her husband, are ok, and did ok through the storm.

My husbands younger brother, his wife, and their two girls live in a double wide in palestine, so they got here friday night; while we got here about 5pm on thursday night.
Here at my inlaws the eye came over us, but it had weekened, but we still got tons of horrible rain and the wind was something i had never seen.

Acts of nature really make you realize when good deads come to pass,a nd also you see when the most disaster strikes.
I think this will be the number one hurricane i will remember, we had to evacuate for rita back in 2005, but Hurricane Ike has really effected all of my family and close friends.

Everyone take care.
Hugs,
Debbie

Thankfully the weather has cooled off here. We have been able to have the windows open to allow the wonderful cool breeze blow thru the house. It has helped. And thankfully, according to the weatherman no threats of rain in the near future.

The cool air is wonderful.

It's 2:30am and we got about about 12:30.
We have severe water damage from rain bursting through the closed vent in the chimney, so the fire place bricks are still wet and the carpet is wet and damp from the kitchen all the way through into the hall, but our three bedrooms seem to look ok.
All of the carpet and pads are soaked and there is mud underneath; so all the carpet from where the carpet starts through the living room and the hallway will be ripped up.

Lots of shingles in the front and back yard, so i will have to inspect that later today when i can locate a ladder, and our front part of the yard before you get to the sidewalk is full of tree branches and fallen limbs.

I will be calling the landlord first thing in the morning because this smell is god awful.
I hope he acts quickly, he lives in Austin, but we always pay rent on time, and i cannot keep the kids living out of a hotel for a month, then after that, then what?
They start back school Monday, they need to have some normalcy, not all this craziness and up-rootedness that as happened so often these past few months.

Scrubbed the fridge, everything is in the trash, so it is bare, but we finally got the pilot light in the water heater going, so we will have hot water by tomorrow morning, and can hopefully cook on the stove, it is gas as well.

I am sorry for this being long, and i am just venting.
I know everyone is going through aftermath and clean-up from ike, and so many have nothing and will start over from scratch, so believe me when i say i am very thankful the house is still standing.

Take care all.

Hello again,

My heart & prayers go out to all of you...although you have sustained much damage and trauma from this, I am so very grateful to hear that you are all safe. I am thinking of each of you, as you now must be making plans to go back home/start the clean-up process.

Debbie, it sounds a though you have been through a particularly rough time, and please know that my prayers are with you, your family, friends and relatives who were all so heavily affected by Ike. Please do keep us posted on how things are going for you, and know that we are all thinking of you. I wish you the very best during this difficult time.

Kim, I know that it is going to be a long haul for you and your loved ones, indeed...am thinking of you, and praying that with time, you will all heal from this devastation. I hope that you will continue to keep us updated, as we are concerned about all of you...

Please take care and take time to nurture yourselves as much as possible. I wish you the very best during this difficult recovery.

BIG :hug:s to all of you.

With much aloha, Trish

There's still no power at my house. I'm at my DD's house; the power went out there today - thankfully it was back in just a few hours. I've been told that I won't have power for awhile - too much damage in my area. So, I'm still going back & forth for cleanup. I'm pretty drained & tired.
Still grateful that all my family and friends are unharmed although most of us are facing massive cleanup & repairs.

I really appreciate all your prayers and good wishes :)

I'm so frustrated, it's like my neighborhood has just been forgotten!

How is everyone doing?

Jean, what side of town do you live on?
My sister and bil who live on the north east side, off 1960, who's house flooded are still without power, but they are staying with family in sugarland.

If there is anything you need, let me know.

We are still confined to the three back bedrooms of our home, and it is so cold when i walk out into the hallway and into our living area, all it is cold, ugly, concrete.

I am thankful that my family is stil here though, and happy to hear you all are ok.

Big Hugs,
Debbie

We live on the east of Houston in Crosby. My neighborhood made the local news today as nobody in our subdivision has had power restored yet. They say that we had so much damage that they need to replace over 9 miles of wire. Crosby is expected to be mostly restored by Sunday, except for my subdivision.

My family is actually doing ok as my DD lives about an hour away & has power. We're staying with her but I really want to be able to go home. I might be willing to tough it out at home but my other DD is handicapped and wouldn't be able to cope.

DH is working on getting a new generator installed , hopefully he can get it running tonight *pray*

This is great news too...the picking up part, not that you have the most debris ;)
