View Full Version : Finding right shade of lipstick
I've thrown out so many lipsticks that were all wrong for me during the "throw away" challenge & I want to make sure that I won't repeat past mistakes. What colors of lipstick are best for a medium complexion, more on the cool side, but somewhere in between. I have dark brown hair & eyes if that's any help. I hope I don't sound silly!

I just wish I could find a lipstick that actually stayed on and didn't wear off or make my lips feel dry!! If I were you Mori I would get a few different shades. Depending on the look you are going for maybe different colors would help. During the day maybe a softer more natural color, while for night or going out a darker color..red! I have brown hair brown eyes and red makes me look and feel sexy. But of course I only wear it when I go out for special occassions! And not a neon red, just a nice smooth shade! During the day I wear Lancome Juicy Tubes in the Honey Violet shade. I like it. It adds color, but not to much! Good Luck!!

Hi Mori,
Perhaps you could stop by your local dept store's cosmetic counter. I found out that I was wearing the totally wrong colors for me when I had a makeover before I got married. The lady that did my makeover picked out the exact right shades that looked the best on me. Amazing!

Mori,
Yes, I agree with Yellowrose, it really helps to go and have a consult/makeover with someone who works even in your local mall's cosmetic counter. They will match shades to your complexion and try to find colors that you will actually wear. I know what you mean by ending up with lots of colors that weren't really a good match for you. I am doing the same throw away challenge and I noticed the only lipsticks I am keeping were the ones I bought from a cosmetic line that actually looks good on me. It seems like the ones I buy in the stores just don't end up looking natural on me when I get them home. Good luck!
And it's fun to go to a department store and go to a make-up counter there. Most places will make overs for free. :) It's a lot of fun and relaxing! Plus, they like to do make-up.

For the past 3 years or so, I have been wearing Covergirl Outlast lipcolor. I put this on in the mornings, and generally I have to remove it myself at the end of the day. Every once in a while, it will flake off but not often. It's kind of like a lip gloss in that you paint it on, and it has a very nice clear 'lip balm' to go over the color that makes your lips moist and smooth. I usually have to use cold cream to remove it. I've tried a different brand that was similar, but it was incredibly dry and made my lips feel funny/flaky. If you want a lipstick to stay, this one is it, IMO.
