Hi ladies,
I need help. I'm soon to be "grandma" of three.
They are 3, 5 and 15.
What do your grandchildren call you? I really don't want to be a "granny" yet. Even though it is one of the most affectionate names for grandma.
Can you help me with a fun and creative name?
Thank you! :thankyou:

When my first grandaugher came along I was in my early forties and referred to myself as Granny. I didn't mind, I had a wonderful Granny. BUT, when my angel baby started talking, her "granny" came out "gigi". I LOVED it and have been Gigi ever since! :)
I read that since Goldie Hawn became a grandma she is called "Glamma". Thought that was cute too.

I wanted to be called Nana - my mom was Nanny to my kids(she's from England).
Well, at 2 years old, my granddaughter has come up with Nina and I just love the way her cute little voice sounds when she says it.
Why don't you ask them - they sometimes have very cute, endearing names. :)

Since my daughter was born, I've referred to myself around her as Gramma. Now that she's beginning to talk, it's coming out "Uhmma". So I've decided that if I'm Gramma, that's fine; but if she keeps calling me Uhmma, that's okay too. ;)

Well I myself am not a grandma but I have a little story. On my mom's side they wanted us to call them by their names..but my older sister couldn't pronounce them right so we call them DarDar and PapaWho!! People look at us funny when we called them by that!!

With today's huge families, there are sometimes more than the traditional two sets of grandparents. My grandchildren have quite a few sets, so my husband and I are known as Grampy and Grandma Sue. I wish I could just be Grandma, but what can you do??? I still love to hear my grandkids call me that, as it means they know who I am!!! That's not as dumb as it sounds...none of them live near us, so they don't see us very often. I feel like I am missing out on so much of their lives.

My mom wanted to be called Gram because that's what she called one of her grandmothers. But when my daughter could start talking, Gram came out as Bim. My mom and I both think both of the names are really cute!

I was young when I first became a grandma too. well, I thot I was young, anyway! :)
I didn't give it too much thot about what they would call me, but my little grandson called me Gran. I just thot it was so cute! Now all my grandchildren call me Gran.
But I must admit, Granny put me in mind of Granny Clampet! hehe...and that just didn't seem to fit my idea of myself! :)
Hi,
My grand-daughter couldn't say grandma right. It came out "dimmer", which became the family joke. Then as her talking improved I became "grandma with the cats". Now I am "grandma darling". I guess she picked that up cause I always say "yes, darling", or "Alexis, darling". I love it. To all the other grandchildren, I'm just plain grandma. My husband is always "papa".

Hi All!
When I had my first child, my mom was mamaw....she couldn't say that when she began speaking so just ended up calling her maw for years. (the emphasis being on the "aaww"). Now that they are older, it's mamaw and papaw...my mother-in-law being nanny. My grandfather was also know as pappy. The kids sure do miss him!! :(

I was a grandma at 36, but even with all of the that I couldn't wait. My grand-daughter calls me mom mom and my husband pop pop. She called her mommy's mom, me-mom, her mom's grandmother, mee-mee. She calls my parents, grandma and grandpa bia (supposed to be Via!) The poor child has entirely to many names to keep straight!

When my grandson came along, I wanted to be Nana. Since the other grandmother chose that, I certainly didn't want the same name so I decided to be Grammy. My grandson couldn't say that....it came out as Mammy. He's 10 now and still calls me Mammy, but refers to me as his grandmother when he talks to his friends. I absolutely love being Mammy and wouldn't change it for all the money in the world. Now that he has a little sister, she knows me as Mammy too! My grandson calls my mother Great-Mammy and she loves that. All the other great-grandchildren call her Gigi.

My husband had this problem a few months ago when we got married. What was he going to call my grandkids? At first he wanted them to call him by his name but when we went to see them right after getting married, he immediately started calling himself grandpa and he loves being grandpa now. Their ages are 4, 1, 1 and 1.

I like grandma, but sometimes Nathanael's Mom refers me to as Grandmom. My new soon-to-be grandson is 6 and calls me Grandma Rae as he has others grandma's in England. I don't mind, every grandma has a special name. Could maybe you see what the children want to call you?

My son's partner refers to her mum as gran and I've been given nan. I'm happy with this as I didn't want gran or grandma. The kids will sort out their own name for you soon enough. I remember as kids we called my mother's mother big nan as she was tall and dad's mother little nan as she was short when we were referring to them in the same room.

I just have to put my two cents worth in since yesterday for the second time I am a grandma. I am called Nana. I wanted to be grammy but my daughter just insisted I be Nana. The other grandma is known as meme. And I think that's a great name because children learn early to say me and they seem to remember that name easier than others. At first my dgs called me nanie which I adored but now he just calls me Nana. I think they will call you what they want to at first and hopefully it will be a name you can live with.. LOL.. I have to keep correcting him because he calls me meme a lot more than I would like but I figure it's because he talks to her more. But I am staying for almost a month and he is now almost 5 so.. I'm sure he doesn't confuse us anymore. Congrats on your becoming a grandmother no matter how you got there!
And to update .. little Eleanor Ruth was born yesterday and weighted in at a healthy 8 pounds!

You could ask them what they want to call you...some affectionate derrivation of your first and last name always is cute...your initials may sound nice together...( my initials are KG {kaegea}!!
My mom was an irish "Grammy"...and I thought I would be too..until my little grand daughter couldn't say it and it came out MiMi.....and it stuck! I quite like it...and my mon is now GiGi for "Great Grammy" at age 81!!

When I held my first grandson at about 15 minutes old I knew that I'd be happy with whatever he called me, as long as he called me, lol. Brendan is almost 3 now and has called me "Mamma" (pronounced Mamaw) ever since he could talk and my heart still sings every time he says it. My 8 year old step-granddaughter refers to me as Grandma and we're just waiting to see what the youngest (almost 1 yr.) decides to call me.

You are all so sweet!
I have an update.
The Grandkids just left after having a 6th birthday party and bar-b-que for the little one.
During lunch, I asked the girls what they wanted to call me, and to my surprise the 15 year old quickly said,"buddy Grandma", the 6 year old said,"great grandma". Ok, now the great grandma quickly became a joke around the table until it became apparent that she meant a great grandma, as in GREAT!
She was my buddy all afternoon. We played with an old easybake oven that belonged to my youngest daughter, and made little pizzas in it.
She sat on my lap and taught me how to make funny faces and duck noises.
We all three went to Rite Aid for ice cream.
I realized, they enjoy being with me, and I with them. Therefore, they can call me any name they choose, and I told them that!
Take care ladies, keep your stories coming, I enjoy them!

My grandchildren have several grandmothers, their mother's mother, me (their mother's stepmother), their great grandmother and all of us are granny. I am granny to all nine granddaughters (no grandsons). I love it and I love all of them and something happens everytime they call me granny, especially the 2 year old.

My step son calls his Grandparents Memay & Pepay.
My husband has always called my Grandfather Pep.
As kids we called both sets Grandma & Grandpa. When we were talking about them (and they weren't there) we differentiated by calling the set that lived 3 hours away Grandma Wall & Grandpa Wall (their last name.) Great-Grandparents were the same way.

My SO has 10 Grandkids-- the younger ones call me Grandma Laura, and the older ones just Laura.
I have a Grandson who is Autistic and to me the most beautiful sound in the world is when he calls me "Giggy"

When our daughter got pregnant with her first child, I considered myself a gramme to be. Then when my grandson was born, my daughter called me his memaw & my hubby was pepaw. Once our grandson was able to talk we were memaw or grandma & hubby was pepaw or cramppa (his cousin pronounced grandpa as cramppa, so he said it that way-LoL). He is now 5 yrs old and generally calls us grandma & grandpa. I still consider myself his gramme, but grandma & grandpa is fine by us. His brother hasn't started talking yet, so we will see what we will be next-LoL!!!!!
