Hi, I'm Karen. I'm the mother of seven and the grandmother of 6 1/2. I live in Muscat, Oman, but I am from Utah. My husband works for a company that supports the US military. I am having a wonderful time exploring Oman, and learning about the culture here. The Omani people are a warm and gracious people. What an experience.

I love to cross-stitch, crochet, read, watercolor and do geneology. I have a dog, Winston, who is a rat terrier/Jack Russell mix. I miss him. There isn't anyway he could have made this trip here, so my daughter is caring for him. I have a son living in Mississippi, a son and his family in Georgia, and a daughter and her family in Arkansas. Two sons and two daughters (and their spouses/kids) live in Utah.

Hello Karen!! Wow! Oman, that is really cool! My husband works for the DoD, we are currently in Maryland, and I am from Arkansas!! What town does your daughter live in? I am sorry your Winston can not be there with you. I am glad to hear you are getting out and meeting the people there. It use to suprise me at the number of spouses in Germany that hated it there, and all they ever saw was their living room! I loved it there!! Espically the food! I hope you continue to have a good experience! :)

Hi
My daughter lives in Conway. I was able to visit her just after Christmas. We really like it there. We lived in Heidelburg Germany. Where were you in Germany. I know what you mean about people not getting out. We went all over the place there. It is harder for me to get out here. I don't have a car. My husband has the company car, but they only want company people driving it. Supposedly, I'm allowed to drive him too and from the airport, and if there is an emergency. Hum!! I can think of a lot of emergencies (ha ha).

I really do miss my dog.l I am an animal person, but he gets car sick, just riding to the store, so I know that this trip which is 28 hours will literally kill him, and I just can't take the chance. So I babysit people's pets here when they have to leave or go on vacations. I'm picking up a cat tomorrow for one week. I like the company. The people work long hours here. You either work six 8 hour days, or five 10 hour days. So I have lots of time on my hands to fill

Welcome to the site, kdee!

My brother was stationed in Germany (Ramstein), so I got to visit him twice. I love it there! The food IS fabulous and had fun going to their outside malls to shop.

I'm glad that you are enjoying Oman and that the people are so nice and friendly.

I know where Conway is! :) We were stationed at Hohenfels, Home of the Box!(One of the best simulated war-fare around!!) Our lives here in Maryland have kinda been tossed up in the air and just frozen  My DH put in his paper work to move us to the other coast. Oh..well, I told him when I married him I would go anywhere he wanted to go!

Good luck with the cat!! Let me know how it goes.

Hi,
The cat is doing just fine. She is sweet and lovable. She will be glad when her owner comes back, I'm sure. It is starting to heat up here. From Nov- mid Feb, the temperatures stay in the 70"s during the day and get quite cool at night. IT is so pleasant. But the humidity is building up again, with higher temps. I go outside during the summer and my glasses fog up. So does the camera lens.

I know when you think of the arabian desert, you think of high heat and dry. But Oman is right on the coast, and the humidity is at least 90% during the summer.

I know the south has high humidity also. Hey, where do you think you'll be on the west coast? We lived at Vandenburg for two assignments. Thanks for your replys. I've enjoyed chatting with you.

Hi Kate,
Thanks for the welcome. I've never been on a site like this, so I'll have to learn my way around. But I think it will be fun to meet many interesting women.

I'm glad you liked Germany. I think you would like it here also. THe food is so interesting. It has a very strong influence from India. Everything is curried. I think my favorite are samosas, and swarmas. It is cheaper to buy an already roasted chicken then it is to buy it raw and cook it myself, so we eat roasted chicken about three times a week. It comes in Tandori, Garlic and Extra Spicey.

Again, thanks for the welcome.
