My DH works for one of the largest employers in the State of Nevada. Tomorrow they are laying off between 500 to 1000 people.

They have massive security in place and have computer lockout for the day. It's been horrible waiting for this day.

I would like to request prayers for all the employee's that will lose their jobs tomorrow. It's going to be a sad day :(

I hope your husband makes it trough the cuts. And always keep those who lose their jobs in my prayers. There are so many cut backs these days and the day that it happens in a company is always sad :(

The anticipation of one big day of job cuts has to be terrible. At least once the day is over, it is over. My company is doing their cuts peicemeal so that each round falls below Federal reporting levels. Everyone is always paranoid and any time a manager wants to talk to someone, the first thought is "is my time up".

Take care

They turned it into a 2 day layoff, as there wasn't enough security to handle it all. We have no idea how many people were cut today. It's going to continue through tomorrow. My DH says the cuts haven't reached his department yet. This is terrible.

LuvMaui,

:hug:s and sending many prayers your way.

Father God,we come before you with heavy hearts, asking that you stand with those who will be losing thier jobs, give them strength and reassurance, craddle them and thier families in your comforting love , make a way for them, provide for thier needs.Let your will be done, in your precious name, Amen.

Job cuts can be no less than deadly.

There were a couple of places that had mass pink slip days, and there were waiting outside, in case anyone did anything drastic.

My DH still has a job. Also there was only 300 people layed off, not the rumor 500 to 1000. So that is good news.

Cindy,

I'm glad to hear your husband still has a job. Hopefully the other cuts won't impact his workload too much.

Take care

Glad your husband wasn't one of them, but "only" isn't a comfort to those 300.

What are the current laws concerning obligatory compensation from the work place and federal benefits (FICA? I seem to remember that term from my payslips in the USA long ago).

Here the law says you have to get workers compensation from your employer - one month basic salary for every year that you worked.

Federal unemployment insurance kicks in after one month (after you receive your last months pay) and is for about months, based on your last basic salary. Luckily, I haven't been unemployed in some 25 years.

No problem with health, since our combined public/private system works through social security, and in the cases of the unemployed, works through the unemployment benefits.

I wish there was some standards here. Severance packages by company...and can change on the exectutive's whims.

Several years ago we had a CEO that was known for slashing people. One of the first things he did was change the severance package from 26 weeks max based on years of service to 2 weeks...then the job cuts started. :-( After he left, the severance was changed to 20 weeks max and one month health benefits which is line with many other similar companies in this area.

After the severance time, unemployement kicks in and is base on state rules.
