I'm sitting here watching something I DVR'd and one show has been interupted twice by breaking news within 30 minutes.

Some recent interuptions I've noticed were due to the election, financial bailout and now the auto loan talks. None of the news they shared as breaking news was eath shattering, world changing or something that people needed to act upon immediately. They could have waited until the regular newscasts and usually end with the fact they will go into more detail during the normal news show.

When I'm at my mom's, I don't notice this happening as much. Do your local news stations do this?

Take care

All the time. Anymore "news" is nothing more than sensationalism, a video tabloid trying to pass itself off as "journalism". Please! This country hasn't had a true journalist broadcasting news since Walter Cronkite retired.

Yes, they do it here all the time and it is very annoying sometimes. We've had to see police chases that go on for a loooong time ( and sometimes we never really learn the why's ), among other things.

The hurricane "news " will sometimes start ( non stop, nothing else on at all ) days before the hurricane is anywhere near us. At that point it's just speculation anyway....

JC,
I haven't seen interruptions for political news, but they will break in for police chases, fires and than of course there was the Hurricane Ike coverage that was 24/7 for what seemed like weeks. Once we finally got our power back, we didn't have cable so the only TV we had was local stations, with everyone having Ike coverage. I realize it was a big disaster, but they kept showing the same thing over and over and over. How many times can you watch a line of people waiting to get their free water and ice?

It does seem to go in spurts. I think it depends on what is going on. If it's an extremely boring news day I guess they think the police chase is big news.

It always seems to happen when I'm watching AMC and won't be able to catch it again on the soap channel later at night.

GRRR Don't mess with AMC!

It all can wait at least an hour, unless it's a family member or friend whose very very ill / dying I don't want to be interrupted.

A while back, our local station was breaking in about the arrest of the state's university's star basketball player's arrest. I sent an email to the station stating that I thought the frequent interruptions was overkill and not needing a "breaking news" interruptions. He was arrested for rape. Geesh.

Now, something like 9-11, yeah, break in, but the rape charges of some college basketball player? Gimme a break.
