View Full Version : Been to Vegas? Where should I visit when I'm there?

I'm off to Las Vegas for five days in Februrary. (My hubby's daughter is getting married there.) I am singing at the wedding -- Etta James' "At Last". What a great song! I have the CD accompaniment -- which I normally wouldn't use except for a popular song like this one -- and I've already begun practicing.

I have the dress (which can be extra dressy because it's an evening wedding). It's a black velvet skirt with a hankerchief hemline and a really glitzy silver top. It's probably the prettiest thing I've ever gotten -- and believe me, it doesn't look like it only cost $111 (the sales are amazing this time of year).

I have to get some shoes and an evening bag, but I think I have the right jewelry to wear.

Now, down to my question: Where should I shop or visit while I'm out there? We've been there a couple of other times, so we've been to Hoover Dam. Let me know which shopping areas you like best, because I have a day where I know I'll be shopping.

And have you ever had a "spa day" there? Where should I go to get a facial and manicure?

Thanks! I can't wait for this trip -- it's been way too long since I've gotten to have fun and I want to escape this incredibly cold Minnesota winter in the worst way.

I live in the Reno-Tahoe area of Nevada. We visit Vegas a least every couple years cause the flights are so cheap.

You MUST see Hoover Dam aka Boulder Dam. It is a truely amazing sight.

We like to stay at Mandalay Bay or the Bellagio. If you early-book you might be able to get a really good deal. There are Day Spa's right on sight. Most of the Hotel/Casino's are a full Resort. Resturants, shows, shops, Day Spa, Gym, Yoga.. You name it, they have it.

There are tons of theme casino's such as NewYork NewYork, The Venetian (Vinice,Italy),The Paris, The Luxor (Big Pyrmid). I suggest you look online at The Hilton and see what celebrity show will be there. It's always fun to take in a floor show.

You will love the February weather. Vegas usually has dry mild temps.

BTW, my DD walked down the isle to "At Last".

I'm sure you are going to have a wonderful visit :)

I love The Canal Shops at the Venetian. I bought a small piece of Murano glass there once. (And I mean a "small" piece -- it was a small piece of candy -- sits on the window sill and catches the light beautifully!)

There are lots of great shows to be seen, but sometimes they get awfully pricey. The comedians tend to be less expensive, but their shows are sometimes a little off-color so if you have kids with you, that would be out.

There's also a good mall next to Treasure Island. It has a Macys store... and I think Neiman Marcus, too??? Not sure on that one.

If you're into "high-end" stuff you can go to the Wynn hotel and pay (yes, PAY) $10 to get into the Ferrari dealership in the hotel. The consolation? I'm pretty sure if you buy a car, they'd refund the $10. :D

I am so jealous! And you even get to go to a Vegas WEDDING?

Let me know if Elvis shoes up, OK?

As to what to do when you're out there, all I know is I've heard the shopping and the food are fabulous out there! Enjoy yourself.

I had no interest in the Hoover Dam, but I did do a fabulous fly over of the Grand Canyon.

I hadn't thought of the Grand Canyon. Good idea....

They also do helicopter fly-overs of just the whole Las Vegas area. That might be kind of a fun diversion.

Keep the ideas coming! I leave on February 4.

Marian,

Did you do the fly over out of Las Vegas or did you need to leave Las Vegas to pick that tour up. I've always wanted to go to the Grand Canyon. Although I do want to see it on the ground and do some hiking, I thing a flyover would be awesome.

Take care
