I've found the best way to get an edge on finding a new position is by sharing with other business associates about the hunt for a different career or position. Networking is a great!
Have you discovered networking for your career change options?

Because I may be looking for a new job in the next year or two, I seem to be putting myself out there more in the areas I may be looking. I give them an opportunity to see how hard-working and dedicated I am.
Networking is invaluable. I have several people with their ear to the ground for me and I am trying to help another person get in at our school next year.

I found a great Networking book at my Public Library: "The Networking Survival Guide: Get the Success You Want by Tapping into the People You KNow" by Diane Darling.
I'm pretty sure the book is still in print and can be found (or ordered) through most book stores.
Check your Public Library for other books about social and career networking. There are a lot out there on the subject right now.

Network how??
So the professional organization won't work right now but...
Networking is something I do everyday.
1)I Talk to my friends and let them know what it is I want position I want, kind of company I want to work for, and I ask if they know anyone I can talk to or have ideas I might not have considered
2) I literally talk to everyone, I ask questions about what they do for a living, do they enjoy it, why? I just never know who I will find a connection with.
3) I had Vista Prints make up a business card with a goal or statement about myself, my name and phone number. That way I have something to give to everyone I contact, and I can ask for their business card.
The more people who know what I want the better chance I have of finding resources, organizations, or contacts for my next new job/career.
I have pracitced a clear, concise 30 sec commercial about myself because I never know when a conversation could turn into a interviewor a recommendation. And I need to have my "sales pitch" ready nothing like blowing it by going brain dead and fumbling for words.
I live by the quote below.

Beachgirl.. thats a great idea. You are right you never know who you will run into, I guess I should start getting things set in my mind and in words what I want and a sales pitch!! Thanks!
