View Full Version : Why does security follow DH?

Yesterday DH & I went to Pamida.

He doesn't get out of the house very often, a couple times a month if he's lucky. So he just has to check everything out in the store. He always uses the handicap scooter. This time he wanted to pick up some things for doing models. A new model and glue and knives. Of course they didn't have what he wanted so he just drove up and down the aisles checking out other things. I picked up some yarn and another crochet hook and sort of just cruised the store looking for him. Eventually I found him and we headed to the front of the store. While we were in line at the check out one of the employees walked by and gave me this look. I can't describe it, but it wasn't just the passing smiling at the customer and walking by. She walked outside and smoked a cigarette with another employee outside near the front door. I made a comment to DH about that look as we were getting into the truck. I pointed her out to DH and he said that both of them and a guy had been following himi thru the store. This really ticked me off b/c he's harmless. He just wants to see what there is to see and enjoy being out of the house. He's not happy either, has vowed to boycott the store. That will only last until he's desperate to get out and see what there is to see. But I am afraid he will cause a scene if they follow him again.

So does this happen to anyone else?

Any comments, observations, suggestions?

If it were me this was happening to I would either have gone back into the store and asked to speak to the manager and want an explanation of why my DH was treated in this manner. It is appalling that in this day and age that everyone is treated with such suspicion. If you don't want to go into the store and see the manager face to face, then you are quite entitled to telephone or write and make an offical complaint about the incident. I would explain your DH's situation as well and ask if they treat others in the same position as he in the same manner. If so you can report them to the Equal Opportunities Commission (not sure what you call it in the US) or the Disability Commission. Don't forget to tell them you want a reply within 10 working days and that if you don't you will take the matter further and seek legal advice if need be. That should make them sit up and listen and do something to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Keep the faith, be positive and be constructive in your comments to them.

Let me know how you get on. I dealt with complaints in my last job for over 10 years, so if you need help with your letter etc email me (from my profile page) and I'll be more than happy to help and assist you.

Love
