Hello,
My name is Rachael. I am getting my BA in Child Development; is their anyone on here with a degree in that field? I am trying to find out what types of jobs are available and what the pay is like.

My BA is in elementary ed and early childhood ed. Unfortunately, people working with the pre-K crew typically aren't compensated well. When I worked childcare, the payrate for a certified teacher was 7.75 an hour. I currently work in an Early Head Start program as a child development specialist in a therapeutic nursery program. I started out making 26,500. Our home visitors have the same starting rate. Head Start teachers who are certified make 14.00/hr during the school year (Sept-May) and then are laid of during the summer months and collect unemployment.
One thing you may want to do is speak with your college advisor who can guide you in the right direction for your research. I hope you find employment that you really love. :) Nothing better than loving your job!

Thanks for the information. What type of certification do HeadStart teachers need, $14.00/hr is not bad?

It may depend on the programs in your area. My county's program requires a bachelor's, with preference given to teachers who have state certification - passed their boards.
