In a previous thread, we discussed our favorite colors to decorate with. How about your decorating style? Is it modern, shabby chic, oriental? Mine is basically country. It just goes with my house which was built in the late 20's. I love quilts and vintage fabrics and that "cluttered" country feel although dusting can be a hassle. But if I had a chance to but a new home, it would definitely be a spanish style home that would be decorated with wrought iron, blankets and pottery. How about your house????????

Since moving to CA 15 years ago and being an avid shell seeker both here and in my travels, I have incorporated shells into my decor. Most of the items like frames, lamps, candle holders I have designed myself.
Our furniture is eclectic and chosen for comfort.
Most of the interior furniture and curtains are blue, except the kitchen and dining room where the curtains are yellow.
More time than money so I I put up curtain rods and sewed most of my curtains.

I like the country style... I have some things like farm animals and Amish dolls that reflect where I grew up (Iowa). :bliss:

I like what I call Cottage. Its not quite country...and not quite traditional...and not quite contemporary...Its a mixture of fresh patterns and colors. I love antiques but I'm not crazy about shabby chic. Go figure! Its my own style. ;)

After a trip to Paris 3 years ago, we fell in love with the French Country style. We gradually changed our traditional country decor to a more "french-y" or "cottage" look, with lots of yellow, blue and white. Yesterday (also my 49th birthday!!), we closed on our first brand new home and will move in 6 weeks. We will paint the "builder's white" walls in most rooms, using light taupes and some sage-y greens to go with all the white trim. We're also going to incorporate a more european look with "scroll-y " iron pieces on the walls and that style for the drapery rods too. I can't wait to decorate a brand new house just for my sweet hubby and me! :D

I'm really not sure what my style is. I know that I am definetly not into modern. I walk into IKEA and shudder. I love antique wood furniture. I don't have any, but if I could, I would like to decorate my entire house with antiques. Now I realize that there are different styles of antiques, but my house would probably me a mishmash of different styles.
I am pretty much modern. I think my mom antiqued me out. :p I enjoy clean, crisp lines with color. Pretty much anything you can buy at Crate and Barrel and West Elm fits me. ;) I love their stuff. I won't tell you how often I check out their stuff online. My mom might see.

My house is decorated in a hodge-podge style. It would not make it in House Beautiful, that's for sure. However, my taste in decorating (if I had the money for it) would be Americana-folk art style in some rooms and Victorian in other rooms. I also love the cottage styles. I get Country Living magazine and find myself "lusting" after some of the furnishings and accessories. If I had the money, I'd shop at Home Goods for decorating accessories.

I just want comfort. I want people to not even think twice about sitting down. I want a HOME style. Maybe cause I am not older yet, I just kinda go with the flow. I do love pictures. Picture frames everywhere!

Our decorating style is French country. I love formal lighted cherry cabinets and tables, tapestries and Tiffany style lamps, but mix that with warm comfortable seating, some antiques, and a few rooster items thrown in and lots of pillows. The formal furniture suits the organizer in me, but the wood floors, tile, open floor plan and seating makes our home comfortable. Thanks to my mom, I have some great crystal pieces and antique dolls, but keep it all in cabinets. Everything within reach is toddler and pet safe. Our home is definitely family and pet friendly.

I would have to use the word "eclectic" because that's a good word for every room is different! ;)
Our living room (or as my DH calls it the "fancy sitting parlor" because no one goes in there) is where my antiques are. Family room is all modern with purple furniture and black trim on everything. All the bedrooms and bathrooms are bright colors - each with a different theme.
My two favorite rooms are the last ones I did - a half bath downstairs that was inspired by a print of gerber daisies.
And my guest bedroom which is painted in the colors of the gulf - seagreen with a blue painted border and filled with pictures of all our beach vacations.
My home will never be featured in any magazine, but it makes me smile and I think that's what is most important!

My style is eclectic... a combination of bombay, crate and barrel , salvation army and pottery barn. I dont like any specific style but I like clean, classic lines and shapes. I like to mix formal with informal furniture, ethnic with traditional. I am refinishing furniture using vivid color. I like to accent using metal, beads and crystal.
Comfort and being pet friendly are very important in our house.

With my house every room has a different decorating theme. My family room is a comfy theme where we can hang out and relax, lot of picture frames with family in them, with a grey bluish color. My bedroom is shabby chic and very pretty. My kitchen everyone says looks like a fancy Italian resturant with vines and glass everywhere (sounds ugly, but looks very nice). My bathrooms are modern style, they are black and white with marble counters and floor (a pain in butt to keep clean).
My computer room is in need of re-modeling, so that will happen this spring.

Mine is early toddler, and late dog. Hehehe. I have a lot of different theme rooms. My son's bathroom is rubber ducky. My bathroom is birdhouses. My son's room is slowly going from pastels to Thomas the Tank Engine. My living room is brown with black. And my guest room is a work in progress same with my bedroom. Oh, and my kitchen/dining is grapes.

I have always like Southwestern style. I like in the North Mid-west. It is alway (seems like) cold up here. I remember when I was a kid & visiting Arizona. I loved it. I think the Indians are such interesting people & their beliefs. I know my house might not be in but we love it. It is very comfy & cozy. I finally put up a Southewest border in my kitchen. I was in real estate, so I kept thinking, if we want to sell maybe that wouldn't be right. I don't care now, I like the added color.

I meant to say I live in the North. I really would like to move to North Carolina. Well maybe when I retire!

I have a different look in each room. My special room is two of them. First it is my dining room where i have the Americana theme. All Red, White, and Blue with stars and stripes. My spare room has my dh grandmother's antique bedroom set in there. She gave it to him before she passed. So it has very special meaning to us.

We are currently in the process of a total home remodeling project that started with scraping the popcorn off the ceilings and is now wrapping up with our kitchen being gutted and completely redone. My decorating style has changed over the years and we're currently looking at more of a "retro-30's or 40's nightclub" feel - think Pottery Barn leather meets craftsman style. I like my home to feel comfy where everyone can make themselves at home - including the dog. :) Just gotta finish up with these projects so I can get my stuff out of storage. Eating take out is getting old too... Wish me luck!

I love decorating in the Victorian style. I just find the decorations and furniture so pretty, intricate and lovely to look at!

Country and Primative Country. I like that homey feeling with lots of quilts and candles and baskets around

My style changes over the years. I really love redecorating. My latest syle was mediterranean (sp?) with a lot of rich colors and heavy furniture. I painted my bedroom a deep burgundy and I have a lot of gold satin fabric. But, I'm now ready to change again....looking for clean, simple and classic with pops of color. The fun for me is in the planning and redecorating...I always have to have a room in progress or in the planning stages...drive my DH crazy!
