Where do you shop for bathing suits?

I'm looking for functional (laps swims and water aerobic classes) not a fashion statement. The stuff at the major deparment stores don't look like suits for actually swimming, and the discount deparment stores are hit or miss on what they have.

Part of my problem is I'm a plus size who is short so finding a suit that even fits is a challenge. Last year I was in desparate need of new suits and ended up with one I love and one I hate because it was all I could find.

As much as I love shopping on the internet and hate shopping in stores, I'd rather go clothes shopping in a store so I can try things on and not have to deal with waiting and wondering if something will fit...then needing to ship it back if I need to return it.

I've been looking all season for at least one new suit to replace the one I hate. I wanted to get two because the chlorine is taking it's toll on the suit I like and don't want to be in a situation like last year where I HAD to buy two whether I liked them or not.

Land's End had a 50% off swimsuit sale last week with free shipping so I started poking around. I found 1 suit I thought I would like, but it fits horribly. :( Another suit was added to my cart as an afterthought. I wasn't crazy about it in the picture but it was a great price. Since it 1/2 the price of the one I prefered I added 2 to the cart. I'm glad I did because I llike how that suit fits. :D

Any suggestions on where to shop for swimsuits...and when? I have a feeling even though I started looking when summer clothes were out maybe I started too late.

Take care

I finally found something that I liked a few years ago at Oshmans. Like you, I have to try it on as suits that look good in a picture most often don't look good on me. I did pay a bit more than I normally would, but I still have the suit and it is still in great shape.

This may sound weird, but what about a store that sells just swim suits for local swim teams? I don't know if you have anything like that where you are located. In my area, we have quite a few local swim teams. Most of them get their suits from one local store. Anyone is welcome to shop there. The suits are made for lap swimming. And they do come in plus sizes. Just a thought ...

Good luck in your search!

Hmmm....I never thought about looking for store that just sells swim stuff because I have no clue where one is. I'll have to do some sleuthing to find out if there is one around here.

Take care

I get my suits at season close on the clearance rack. Dillards, JC Penny's and Walmart. My favorite is one I got at Walmart :)
