Every year I look forward to Halloween. I like seeing the kids in their costumes and how much fun they have.

Usually they start coming around 5:30 and I start running out of candy around 7:00 even thought they are still streams of kids coming down the block. That's fine with me because by this time the street is lined with cars driving kids into our area and older kids who come to the door with a pillow sack and no costume.

Tonight, not a kid until after 6:00 and I may have gotten 10-15 stopping by in the next hour. Around 7 some drive-ins started showing up but they were not lined up on the street like previous years. Maybe it was because our block only had 3 of us giving out candy (usually the majority of houses do). Maybe it is a Saturday night. Maybe it's too cold. Maybe it's the economy (I know I bought less candy and didn't splurge on chocolates this year to cut costs).

I'm very disappointed this year. The best part was the two little kids who realized my mostly black cat cat laying in the window next to the light up pumpkin was not a decoration :D

How was your Halloween this year?

We usually get between 30 and 40 children. Tonight we got 68! I couldn't believe it. We had so many drive-ins it drove me crazy. I remember as a child how much fun it was to be out in the dark. Now everyone seems to get driven around. Oh well. But it was fun with the neighbors outside (even though it was a little chilly). It wasn't raining or snowing so it was great.

Our drive-in tricker or treaters get driven in so that their kids trick or treat in a safer area or an area that has more candy givers. I can't blame them but I can't afford to provide candy for everyone. :o

I remember either one of my parents or my friends driving the car while we walked in our own neighborhood. First step was one of them walking along with us. Then they tailed us with the car to make sure we were safe. When they felt we were old enough they then let us go out alone.

We also only went a few blocks. My parents, as well as my friends, thought that was more than enough candy for us. Once we finished the neighborhood trick or treating, we did get in the car and go visit relatives or friends of my parents...mainly to show off my costume.

Take care

We did not have even one child ring our doorbell. :( I kept looking outside and never saw anyone. I think parents may be playing it safe these days. Better to be safe than sorry.

When I was a kid, the entire neighborhood would be out. We usually did our neighorhood, which was a very long street than went a block or two up, came home, emptied our pumpkins and went out again.

It is a different world we live in now.
