View Full Version : More Job Cuts :-(
Every quarter my company cuts people. January was our quarter end and another round came last week. Usually they come at once...at least within the same larger organization...but this time there was another round today.
After so many of these work force reductions, you become numb to it, thanking God you still have a job but feeling sorry for those walked out the door. Whether we know the people leaving or not, a little piece of me goes with them.
Last week a good friend of mine was cut. I thought we were through them for this quarter when I found out another good friend was let go today. Today there are no words to describe how I feel, these were friends and also two of the best people I ever had the pleasure of working with.
We just released quarterly profits. I don't understand why there is never enough and companies feel they need to cut people to make better numbers. I also don't understand how they expect us to support our clients when we are becoming stretched so thin.
Take care

Dear JC,
So sorry to hear that your company is having more cuts. I thought and most in my company thought we were done with cuts as we signed a major contract. Not to be though, we had more cuts last month. Now this is the last week of the month, I will be holding my breath....
It is more difficult when it is people that you personally know and are friends with.
I don't understand this either. Who decides who goes and who stays? And why, when we just signed a MAJOR contract are people still being laid off. To add further insult we are also hiring.
I don't get it. And when are things going to get better?
My number came up today and I no longer have to wait for the axe to fall. I did see it coming...it was just a matter of when. When I got home there was a message from another friend who was cut today.
Maybe I'll feel differently about it once the dust settles, but right now I'm just glad the constantly watching over my shoulder is over.
Take care

Any update JC? It is bad all over and no real signs of improvement.
My dh has been unemployed for two months and we will be losing benefits *insurance, soon.
My prayers are for all who have fallen prey to this mess. Hoping things change soon for all.
I'm working with an outplacement service and they are really providing great information as to what is needed for an effective job search.
They have said the job market is opening up, but with so many people out of work there are just way too many people going after the same positions.
I wish your husband the best in his job search.
Take care

 JC,
I was wondering how your search was going. I hope the outplacement service can help.
Thanks ladies.
I do think the outplacement service is helping. Before I went to the orientation, I felt like I was spinning in circles because I didn't know where to start or what to do.
Take care
Just wanted to provide an update.
How my company handled the work force reduction, even though I haven't been working for the last 60 days, my separation date was yesterday and now I'm officially unemployed.
I feel like the job search isn't going anywhere fast. Between spending time on doing the prep work the outplacement firm suggests and dealing with an unexpected family situation that is taking quite a bit of my time, there hasn't been time left to actually look for a job.
In a previous post I said "Maybe I'll feel differently about it once the dust settles, but right now I'm just glad the constantly watching over my shoulder is over." There is still some dust to settle but I am still glad the waiting and wondering is over, epsecially since we've been hearing rumors another big round is coming.
Take care

Hi JC,
I was just thinking about you yesterday when I was perusing the forums. I'm sorry that nothing has come up for you yet.
One of our other offices had a big round of cuts this week. Rumor mill has it more are coming. Thus far the location I work at has been status quo this month. Things just have to get better.
Best wishes to you in your job search. I hope that something great is right around the corner.
Just wanted to follow-up with an update. Today I submitted my last unemployment claim right before I left the house to start a new job. :D
I am very thankful that I found something so quickly.

Congrats on your new job, JC! I know that's a big relief! :)
I'm still employed at my job for the State, but there has been a hiring freeze for several years now and I'm still waiting patiently for it to lift to get full-time.
I love my job, but it's getting harder to hold out for a full-time position when they keep cutting more and more. I went on a temporary layoff beginning in April and was due to go back in August, but I had my hysterectomy scheduled for 8/2, so now I filed for temp disability instead, and will go back in October.
It's tough all over right now, but I'm in NJ and it seems that we're not getting any better with the economy. Is it still bad all over?

Yay! That is great news JC!
Tree and Kim,
Thanks for the well wishes.
It's been a little rough getting back into the swing of going back into the office but it is getting better as I get more comfortable with their routines and culture.
Take care

I understand JC. When I was laid off from my last job and found this one, it was a major culture shock. I was used to working for small to mid size companies, not a big corporation. Six years later, I'm still here. :D
I'm sure you'll do fabulous!
